Hi Jimmy. I am Irinel from italy. I broke my transmission of my 5.9 jeep grand cherokee zj. I am not a mechanic and I never work like that. I like cars and get my hands dirty from time to time. This was a big challenge for me but with the help of your class I Did It!!!!! I lost the reverse of my transmission and it made a very nasty noise. I look at all your class and I fix it. Very accurate in explaining everything and I want to congratulate you for your professionalism. Thank you

Thank you very much Jimmy. I just test drove my rebuilt 46RE and it works great. I was quoted $2875 at a well-practiced local transmission shop for a rebuild without diagnostic. This project cost me $903.83 and some well-spent time learning about how these transmissions are put together.

Did you make the stand? Is it hard without it if not?

These videos convince me to find a truck with a bad transmission and do it myself! So I got a 1997 Ram 1500 4X4 for $500! Forward planet was destroyed. I now have it apart, have ordered all the replacement parts and will assemble it next weekend!

This man gave me the confidence to rebuild my first automatic transmission and I've been a geared all my life, but always ran from auto trans...if you follow this man STEP FOR STEP WORD FOR ABSOLUTE WORD, you will have an auto trans that works flawless. Only 1 slight issue with mine I have to figure out (I'm sure it's my fualt) lately it's been starting in 2nd or 3rd gear after a stop now and then. It's not limp mode, feels like a sticky valve. When I roll to a stop if I take off and it's in 2nd or 3rd, if I shift to neutral then back to drive it's fine. All new borg warner gov pressure sensor and solenoid along with mopar brand overdrive sensors. I'm not sure if this is where to ask him a question directly, but I hope he answers me !

Hi. Thank you for these videos. I had a 46re rebuilt 10 months ago. Now I’m doing a hemi swap into a 02 durango. The problem I’m coming across is there isn’t a stand-alone tcm. Is there anyway to get a stand-alone tcm or is there anyway around it? Thank you

Thanks for making the great videos. My first and only trans 20 years ago was a TF727 for an RB block. Pretty simple if I remember. Just had to build a clutch pack compressor out of some all tread and angle iron. Now I have a 2000 Durango that belonged to my dad before he passed that slips really bad when you first start it if its been sitting over night or longer. i learned to start it and let it run a few mins first and a few high revs and it seems to be fine after that. been doing that for a few years now. only drive it a few times a year but runs and shifts fine after that. Im Thinking seals are bad and all the oil is running out of everything and going "dry" and by letting it run gets oil back to everything. What do you thing? I also have a 4L60 to do in a 1998 K1500. think that one is just a converter lock up sel. you can feel and see the tack surging above 40 MPH. seems to run and shift fine other wises but thinking of total rebuild because this is going to be my "new" plow truck. I would condenser myself a very serous back yard hack. ( 2500sf garage and 2 lifts) I trained as a mechanic back in the late 80's and was in the field for short time. I still enjoy working on my own stuff and my kids and friends. I have been wanting to dig into these 2 trannys but lacked the knowledge plus im more of a hands on kind of learner so your lessons are great way for me to learn. Plus im doing these with my youngest son. Would like to see him get into doing transmissions on his own. good money in them and I'm setting him up with everything he needs to do them. Any How Thanks a ton for making these videos. cant wait to see what you do next. Jim K

+jkerry812 Hi. There is actually nothing wrong with it. The torque converters on 904, 727, 46RE, 42Re etc. drain back into the pan if you let them sit for a few days. I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 myself, which I bought brand new in "97. It does it too. I now have a total of 248,000 miles on it and the drainback has gotten a little worse over time. all you have to do is put the selector in neutral for about 15 seconds after you start the engine. I just live with it. ...hope this helps....Jimmy

+Transmission Bench My 94 cummins is doing the same with 50k miles on trans. Only takes about an hour for drainback but if I put it in neutral first for a few then into drive everything seem fine... My truck just started doing this so It's a little scary especially when I took it to a shop for "professional opinion". They said front pump was bad and I need a rebuild to the tune of 3000 dollars... No thanks haha... any help would be greatly appreciated..... Where are you located TransmissionBench?

I have a 03 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Cummings w/48re. I have an intermittent shuttle shift at 60 mph to 70 mph. At 60 mph at 1800 RPM in overdrive the trans. Will shift down to to third gear and eng. rpm spikes to 2500 rpm and will go back and forth unless I push the tow haul button and limp back in 3rd gear at 45mph. I was going to replaced the governor solenoid to try to fix it and sell it until a saw your video and I thought why not overhaul it since already have 225,000 miles and my bands are adjusted as far as it can go.What do you think?

I think mine needs a torque converter and front pump in the least but that probably would get me another maybe a year before I had to take it apart again. Might as well have it all done.

whats the difference between the 46re transmission and the 46rh transmission . does any one know ? they look the same.
@Bristerboy922
@Bristerboy922 7 лет назад
The 'e' in 46re stands for electrically actuated valves wheras the 'h' in 46rh stands for hydraulically actuated valves. identically same gearing, just different actuation and connectors
@basketballjones6782
@basketballjones6782 6 лет назад
Let's try an accurate answer for you... The RE has electronically controlled line and governor pressure, with an electrically controlled shift valve for overdrive and lockup converter. The RH has mechanically controlled governor and line pressure, with an electrically controlled shift valve for overdrive (and lockup converter, if so equipped).
