Thank you for the vid. I just completed this mod a few weeks ago. All went well, but I would advise covering the tranny with a towel if you use a grinder to cut the CHRYSLER JUNK TERMINALS and if you use painted terminals make sure you remove the paint from the contact points. I initially had power after the mod, turned key and lost EVERYTHING. That little stud you attach to a standard terminal is not that big and the paint on the bottom of terminal prevented a good ground. Good luck to all and thanks again for the video.
Gotta say this is by far the easiest work around on a common problem. I hope you continue to pump out smart work-around videos like this one for a lot of the other little annoyances the factory/engineers made on the Jeep Wranglers.
Hey thanks man. I am a DIY mechanic, and I’ve been able to figure my way through most things on my jeep. But this video really helped me out man. JK battery terminals are absolute trash. I had flashing lights and all sorts of electrical problems. Thank you sir!
Hi mate thanks 4 the vid, ive been wanting to do this on my wifes 2012 Dodge Journey but was told that because of some fuse or something that this is not advisable?? BUT just now watchin ur vid?? Have you had any battery dramas since??
The Dodge Journey should be similar to this. I didn’t have to take out or modify any fuses for my project. As long as you attach the cables to the new terminal like I did you should be fine. You definitely don’t want to eliminate any factory original fuses if you have any there. If you’re not sure, you should consult a private mechanic. A Dodge dealer is likely to insist that the terminal is replaced with another inferior Dodge terminal.
Why don’t you show how you actually did it those two wires did you collect it together and then put it in there in the groove and then tighten the bolt so they’re on the same thing
I explained it exactly as it’s done. Those two wires have ends on them already. The bolt on the new terminal goes through both of the ends and you tighten the bolt to secure them.
I put the negative back together just like you showed in video put tried to start car heard a tick from battery then no power at all.Can someone help me
This fix is cool and all. But to simplify the fix without medications you can order another battery terminal clamp ($15) and replace just the part he showed with stretched oblong hole. And wa-la.
Its not even a stretched hole.. when you screw the bolt to tighten it, it pulls on.. over time it gets bent so ends up like a v or teardrop shape.. you just have to bend it back slightly so it is straight again so when you tighten the bolt it is able to pull it tight
To answer your question I had to figure out how to do it, then how to properly explain it, and then video record the whole thing. I wouldn’t want to waste your time watching me learn how to do it. I’d rather just show you what I’ve learned.
I have the same problem on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Took it to the dealer. They said I would have to buy a new battery as the terminal connector has worn grooves in the negative battery post and it won't tighten anymore. Charged me $85 bucks and told me the just pounded it down with a hammer to get it to hold for awhile. I wish you sold the replacement terminal for sure.
