In this video I have a look at a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country that came in with a misfire on cylinders number three and six. It also has a code P02308. It does not take long to chase it down and find a failed ECM. -Enjoy!

My thoughts exactly. Eric O seems to know his way around this stuff. When it comes to mechanics on RU-vid IMO they're; Scanner Danner,Ivan(PHAD),Eric O,Keith and ETCG. These are these are the best in the business. I'm not saying there aren't other good mechanics out there but these seem to defy the odds and get it right the first time.

@@stanpatterson5033 that's the most discusting thing about the auto repair buisness; the shops that throw random parts at cars end up making the most money, while the honest guys get stuck cleaning up the hack's messes. I do think customers are partly to blame too. Most customers will go to the guy who says "oh u need this, this and that part" INSTEAD OF GOING to the good honest technician who says "i dont know exactly what is wrong yet, u need to pay for the time to do a proper diagnosis."

@@mikec3104 I disagree. The honest guys will be the ones that give the higher price estimates because they will do it right which is usually more expensive and/or more time. This video was a prime example. The discount shop can offer a cheaper price to "fix" the car by using some cheap universal CAT. Compare that to someone like SMA saying you need to pay more money for an OEM cat so that things like this wont happen and the customer will think "Well I'll just go with the better deal for the same fix."

Eric, great video as always. Just want you to know that watching you and your excellent diagnostic procedures saved me an untold amount of money and time. Short story: 2014 Grand Caravan, 110k, running ok until it's in 6th gear and light throttle is applied -it starts shaking like the trans is falling out. My regular shop (not SMA quality, but honest) can't get me in for 3 days. No codes. No misfire data on my Autel scanner. In desperation, took it on the highway and floored it - NOW we have a code (forgot the number) indicating a problem with cylinder one. -15 wind chill and no garage. What to do? Here's where watching Eric's diagnostics saved the day. Process of elimination was: wiring is likely ok cuz the engine runs normally otherwise. Plug is likely ok cuz engine runs normally otherwise. Chrysler coil - likely to fall under high demand. Buy non-Dorman coil, replace #1 coil, problem solved. Granted, I didn't prove the coil bad by swap-tronics or measurement, but did I mention the-15 wind chill and no garage? Your diagnostics gave me the confidence in MY diagnosis, Eric, and I thank you by purchasing a bunch of of stuff from your Amazon store. PLEASE keep making videos, even the "boring" brake jobs you do teach me something new every time, and I know there are thousands like me in the RU-vid-sphere. Thanks again from a mechanic that stopped wrenching commercially 25 years ago but never sold his tools.

Another great SMA video. Those town and country vans can really put you through hair pulling sessions. My 2010 Routan (which is a VW badged Town and Country) with the big 4.0 had a random stalling issue a couple of years ago. Ended up being a faulty egr valve. Put in a new one from napa, stalling fixed. After several weeks, I started getting random EGR range codes. Napa warrantied the part and I swapped it out. It was fine for a little while and then started throwing the same code. Bought one from the dealer (for not much more than the napa part) and it's been fine ever since.

Yes, NAPA isn't on their game as much as Gates is for example. If the part is about the same cost as an OEM, always buy the OEM. I have a few older vehicles and I'm forced to use after market new parts. I never am satisfied with NAPA merchandise.

I am so continually impressed by Eric O. so diligently wanting to Get It Right diagnosis. Like he says ' If you put a part in it, you've married that problem forever ! ' That is ( seemingly ) so rare these days, that techs take the time for what's right for the customer. What I like so much about Eric O. is he tells you WHY he is doing something. My wife's ride recently needed service for a very annoying intermittent problem - squeaky cold start water pump belt. Because the once reliable shop down the street went to crap with personnel changes - uh, billing me for sh-- that didn't get done -- I tried a different shop. I was very fortunate to deal with a service writer that is also a tech-mechanic-wrench. He totally Got It when I told him I wanted the old water pump back. He took it apart because he was intensely curious as I was.He says, ' Turn the pulley really slow, you'll feel the flat spot' - yep he nailed it. They'll get my future business. BTW, this is a pay techs by the hour / salary shop. As service writer-tech-mechanic Todd put it, ' That pay by the job rate hour stuff doesn't help anyone! It doesn't' help the customer, it doesn't help my guys, it doesn't help me. I don't believe in it. It just plain doesn't work. ' Wow- music to my ears ! I love techs like Eric O. & my guy Todd that get it right. BTW, no more squeaky water pump belt in the Wife's ride. Happy Wife, happy life.

This video really shows why so many of the repair shops just throw parts at it. The reality is most of us don't have access to the "Erics" in the business so we're all doomed.

It appears Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep is keeping you in business. I'm not being snarky, I'm just noticing the repair videos of these makes. You make good videos. Thank you

Mr. O, I love your videos to death! I also happened to notice that your light is in your way 90% of the time and I think I have an idea of how to remedy that. I'm going to send you a couple goodies and hopefully they resolve the problem of the astro light there.

So often techs/mechanics get a bad rep because of the things you found on this job alone. It is amazing that people do the things they do all for a buck or because they are afraid to say they simply don't know and take a small fee and send it to a more qualified shop. You do such a great job going above and beyond that I swear to God if I can afford to drive my truck up from Texas for the work it needs I'm bringing it to you. It is a pos old 98 F150 with at least 227K miles the odometer stopped working there. I may have to do it in several trips but I believe my wife has family around there anyway. Well within a couple of hundred miles which isn't that far. I love the videos and information your provide, I'm recovering from a major neck surgery I had last Wednesday hope to be able to catch wuw next week. I have some questions. I need an engine rebuild/replace, tranny rebuild replace or a tourque converter and I think the clutches in the rear end are slipping. Figure a nice easy southern truck job so you know how nice it is, when it isn't 140 in the shop anyway hahahaha

Bobby Brady being American.. I do agree to a point of what above stated due to the fact that Americans have lost a generation of skilled labor and there’s nothing more we can do.. other than stop makein robots to take our jobs over an than ultimately human race is irrelevant...🤷‍♂️😱. Js
@steventaylor5687
@steventaylor5687 5 лет назад
@Bobby Brady No, I think he was pointing out a contradiction between being proud to be American because Eric fixed the problem, as it was an American that caused the problems to start with. I don't think it's anything against the USA. I would say it applies to any country, if you stated the same thing, but just insert another country into the statement.

Is this video about a Chrysler with an electrical issue? It can't be true..
@Jpilgrim30

With Chrysler monitoring burn time from the ignition control circuit it wouldn’t take much more work for them to give us a primary ignition pattern from the scan tool. That would be pretty handy on occasion.

Eric is great. Love watching him and learning. Only thing is as a home mexhanic i only have a basic scanner so without the fancy expensive scanner us diyers have no way to look at the data. What complete scanner would eric recommend for the home gamer without spending thousands

Well Eric I just replaced the R/H wheel speed sensor and of course they sent me a Dorman and the engine bey side of harness is 3 inches to short. And called them up 3 times and they just don't understand why it don't connect and I finally lost it with them. You just can't fix stupid !!!!!! Anyway good video and I know what you have to endure. ❤️

You replace parts when you have no talent for diagnosing. Amazing that a business that claims to be a repair shop pulls stuff like this.

Happens all the time. They read the code, then look at the info of which parts are commonly replaced for that code and fire the cannon. When the light comes back with the same code they get nervous and call in someone like Eric or Keith to actually diagnose the problem. Then charge it all to the customer...
