We're back on the river and we're Chub fishing with lures. We're moving around the River Lea using Crankbaits to try and lure a few summer Chub. I'm using my Korum Finesse Jig rod and Salmo Rattlin Hornet lures and we manage to catch some lovely fish but more importantly I love this style of fishing and have a fantastic time.
Love the Rattlin Hornet Crankbait! Get it here!

Thank you so much! I watched your video to get some tips for river fishing as had no luck for the past 2 days. Watched your video, got motivated. Took my 3 lure selection. Packed a simple bag, one rod, a net and a landing bag and off I went this early evening. Caught my very first perch! Not the biggest but still! Have subscribed and will keep watching. Thank you 😊

Couple hours ago I had a 6lb pike and 3 casts later had a chub on an 18cm savage gear line thru roach. It was only 2lb but a massive framed fish

Just love catching chub on lures. Only thing I regret is not mentioning the use of a trace. There are some parts of the river where you really need a trace. In this location there arn’t many for some reason. Well done on getting that chub on a lure!!! 👍👍🎣

Watching this video,i almost feel like i am fishing, like, when i aproach the water, i know this fish are wary, and i try to stay hidden from them best i can. That is why i love fishing upstream if possible simply because, when fish have there tail towards you they have less chances of seeing you and scatter. One more thing you mentioned, when a chub chases your lure in a new setting, he or she may have seen you and moved away, so you have limited tries in one location.

Great vid man, just been buying some bits to do some chub lure fishing this winter (now that we are allowed again!) and spotted those Salmo lures and thought they were awesome. Glad to see you have verified that decision lol. Can't want to get out this weekend and try them!

In my experience, and yours as well seeing this video,chub especially in springtime, like slow moving but "active"lures. By active i mean really shaking at slow speeds. By the way, i have been lure fishing for chub almost exclusively for some years now,exept the last two years wich were almost fishingless
@Lifeonthebank

Very nice vid like all of yours. This is also my favorit small swim bait but I upgraded it with single hooks to not damage the fishes too bad. All the best for 2021. Stay healthy! Regards, Dominik

Great video 👍🏻 You are using a 10lb fluorocarbon leader, is that because you know there’s minimal chance of pike where you’re fishing?

Great vid again nick, always a pleasure to watch . Some great tips and stalking . What’s your ideas on red line in clear water ? Is clear Fluoro straight through to a leader more beneficial?
@Lifeonthebank
@Lifeonthebank 4 года назад
Steve Boram I know some people do fluoro straight through. I’ve just got so used to braid I think I’d find it hard to switch. I like the zero stretch / direct contact of braid. Coloured braid is supposed to help you see the bites easy as the line tightens but to be honest these chub slammed their lure so not sure that’s much of a benefit.

Brilliant as always I’ve recently discovered this style of fishing and have fallen in love with it I’ve been out and got a box full of lures but the lure that I havent taken off is the gunki gigan 39f have a nosey great floating lure for shallow situations Any way that has made my mind up of what I’m targeting this weekend. Love the channel and be lucky matey
@Lifeonthebank

Small Fry Productions yeah you can probably tell it’s not something I’ve done for years! But now absolutely love it! It still feels quite niche but it shouldn’t be. Such an awesome way to catch chub. Definitely going to check out those Gunki lures 👍👍🎣

@Lifeonthebank 2 года назад
It’s a fair comment. It’s an old video when I’d just started using cranks for chub. If you watch my video Chub Fishing River Blackwater and Lea (still published nearly 2years ago). By this point I’d started to remove the front set of trebles 👍
@akoskeresztes4953

Hi, I'm using 3,5 cm floating hornets, sometimes i catch chubs but most of the time they just follow my baits (not rattling). Perch lookalike crankbaits worked best for me but, most of the time they just follow the lure, until I take it out of the water.Only small bites, 2-3 fish follows it to the surface, whats the problem?
@Lifeonthebank
@Lifeonthebank 4 года назад
Ákos Keresztes hard to say but I too get a fair number of follows. I would switch to rattling, vary your retrieve and keep moving swims. Quite often if I don’t get a hit straight away then I move, even if fish are following. By then they know something is up! Good luck!!! 👍
@TheRadivoje
@TheRadivoje 4 года назад
Try to cast over main stream,and when crank goes out to your bank,that is when chub hits it.Or maybe on the way in to the stream.Chub takes lure from behind,not as pike or trout..In calm wather try downstream with light twitch.And slow upstream with pause,you can aloud to crank to fall behind,like a tired fish.But the most important is that you cast to the other bank and drive lure slow to the main stream.
@Lifeonthebank
@Lifeonthebank 4 года назад
Sound advice! I’ll give it a go! 👍

Omg and then tonight, no joke, Icaught my first ever pike! Its July and I used a crank bait! Not a single Chub though 😅 I promise this is my last comment 😅
@lukacszoli5736
@lukacszoli5736 2 года назад
Try one hook in the front,that will increase the motion of the lure at slow retrieves in my personal experience they love that in springtime when they are, lets say lazyer.
@Lifeonthebank
@Lifeonthebank 2 года назад
Yeah, good shout. I do think that some lures don’t like it when you mess about with the hooks. They’re designed to have a certain amount of weight beneath them 👍👍👍

Hi I’m just wondering the meaning of grams in a rod bought a new spinning rod for rivers and where ever I lure fish but is 10-45 grams good? Cause I bought that
@Lifeonthebank
@Lifeonthebank 3 года назад
It refers to the size of lures you’d chuck with it. That’s a medium weight rod for medium size lures up to 45g. The only lures it will struggle with is large pike lures. Good luck 👍

In my experience, these fish are wary so they like quiet shady banks, like under a bridge or a tree or near any structure in or above water. It could be a log mid stream or whatever you see where you are at....hope this helps👍
