lnk.to/5SbvYiLA Salute to one of the greatest to play the game, the Amazing Willie Mays! Featured on the Chuck D album WE WRECK STADIUMS, out now, and in the film Say Hey, Willie Mays! directed by Nelson George.
Grew up in 60s. Still remember buying baseball cards at the local Mom & Pop grocery store and there was a Willie Mays card in the pack. It was a big deal for a 10 year old kid!
I bet it was. Johnny Bench talked about & posted photos of himself with Willie in his book From Behind the Plate that my mom bought for one of my older brothers back when Willie was still playing.
@@MichaelWhitted-sj6fz Back then baseball was THE sport. We played Little League baseball and knew all the MLB stars. I took the Mays card to school and my buddies and I marveled at it. 😂
@@OspreyFlyer I live in Muncie, IN so back then the Reds were THE team here because Cincinnati is the closest Major League city to me. But the Chicago Cubs took over after the breakup of the Big Red Machine & they've dominated ever since & it doesn't help when Bally sports Indiana went bankrupt because we don't get Bally Sports Ohio.
That was the most beautiful, incredible song written for the most exciting dynamic gentlemen to have ever played Baseball. I met Mays as a crying 3 year old outside shea stadium and his hug is my first memory of Life. ❤love you both. Mike NYC!❤
Chuck D could write a song about mowing your lawn and I'd drop everything to listen to it. That being said, Willie Mays is the MAN! Absolute legend on and off the field.
Ted Williams, a legend in his own right, once said, "They invented the All-Star Game for Willie Mays." Mays made the Midsummer Classic every season from 1954 through 1973, or what served as his final season in the majors.
Chuck D killin' it! My hero Willie Mays, the Say Hey Kid! I can't believe I'm 63 and on one of the rare moments that I'm happy to be old enough to have witnessed his greatness, both for and against the Mets at Shea Stadium. He was my very first sports hero followed closely by Clyde Frazier.
I'm 46, and I met him when I worked for American Airlines at JFK. We talked for about 30 min until it was time for him to board his flight to San Francisco.
We lost the true home run king on January 22,2021 and now we lost Willie Mays on June18,2024🥲R.I.P. to both kings of baseball they're now going to bat for God😁👍
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY 11207 and 11208.... we used to imitate Willie's & Roberto's basket catches... while we played Stickball and pick Baseball games at Euclid Park E.N.Y. And was a huge Mr. Willie Mays Fan... along with my other All-time heroes and MLB Outfielder's... Aaron LF/ Mays CF/ Clemente RF All 3 bar none are the best of the very best always in my Book.... We'll miss you Mr. Mays, we'll miss your heart, courage and voice dearly. 🙏💪👋
I love that Chuck D used "Frisco" because in the streets it's Frisco and only pricks say don't call it Frisco or don't say San Fran. Thank you for this tribute!!! RIP the Say Hey Kid and legend Willie Mays
To up people on SF history, Herb Caen started the whole "you cant say Frisco" thing. That ended decades ago. We always called it whatever we want.. Nowadays even straight up squares and hipster fools call it Frisco. We call it the City, Frisco, and tha Sco. 415.
This Commemoration SONG is absolutely AMAZING.. Thank You Sir CHUCK D, as an ICON YOURSELF IN MUSIC TO A SONG IN DEDICATION TO AN ICONIC BASEBALL PLAYER SIR WILLIE "SAY HEY KID" MAYS.. FAREWELL & MAY YOU BEAUTIFUL SOUL BE AT ETERNAL PEACE MR. WILLIE MAYS. 🙏🏿❤️⚾🕊️
One legend tipping his hat to another. I have so many Willie Mays autographs, rare cards of his, singed bats, balls, pictures, you name it. Been down with P.E. since the late ‘80s when I discovered them. First cassette tape I ever purchased, the debut studio album: Yo! Bum Rush the Show. Still have it, along with, “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back”, “Fear of a Black Planet”, “Apocalypse 91…The Enemy Strikes Black”. Respect the legends. ✊
Los Angeles Dodgers executive Fresco Thompson once said that Mays' glove was "where triples go to die". That skill and reputation helped Mays earn 12 Gold Glove Awards during his career, the most of any center fielder in MLB history.
