Enjoy this rare footage of a performance of the original 1988 Live Show !
Here Chuck E. invites all his friends to take part in this special interactive experience as a live costumed performer interacts with the audience AND the animatronic characters onstage behind him. This was filmed after hours at the Store with no audience so you can experience the full sequence without audio interference or visual intrusions that a full Showroom watching would create.
The Show takes place in front of the Porch Stage ( aka Rocker Stage ) which feature the Pizza Time Players displayed within a house facade.
This Stage was introduced Company wide in 1986, replacing the previous Stage from Pizza Time Theatre*s heyday, the Classic Balcony Stage.
This 1988 Live Show was the very first offered nationally to Chuck E. Cheese*s Locations around the country at that time. By the mid 80s Pizza TIme Theatre had been bought out by Showbiz Pizza Place, it*s competitive arch rival. At that point in time, many Stores were remodeled and new concepts were introduced to increase the family friendly aspects. The Live Show concept was one of those additons, and the very first performance of this particular show was at the Arlington, TX CEC in May of 1987.

Back in the 80's, this store used to be so loud due to the large showroom. But now the volume has been turned down and is calm now. :)

This video was filmed late at night after the Store was closed to the public. You could indeed really crank up the volume back then, and with a completely empty Showroom during the filming, it sounds even twice as loud!

LOVED This store. My favorite of all the Chuck E. Cheese's I went to growing up around the country. This one had the fun house - the Cheese Factory - which I never saw in any other stores. It also had the "Rocker" version of this show which I didn't see in a ton of places either.

Showbiz merged with PTT around 1984 / 1985. To appease the court ordered money they owned PTT Inc., Showbiz had no choice but to buy them out when PTT went bankrupt in 1984. Pizza Time Theater exsisted from 1977 until 1983. By 1984, it was 'game over' and thus began the merger period, 'Showbiz Pizza Time'.

Not long after this first Live Show was introduced, a decorated screen was sent to Stores to be hung in front of the Chuck E. animatronic on stage. This covered him from sight during costumed Live Show appearances. Since the figure was not intended to be seen during the presentation, no animation programming was done to the figure during this Live segment.

Yeah, sorry about the sound level. Back at the time i had uploaded this clip, i was having problems with sound levels being too low when converting VHS to digital. So i had to boost the level too much to really hear anything at all. More recent uploads i have done don't have this problem.

The Springfield MA location originally opened as a Showbiz Pizza Place restaurant, so yes, they originally had a Rock-aFire Explosion Show. When 'Concept Unification' was rolled out nationally and the remaining Showbiz locations were converted to 'Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza' locations with the Rock-aFire had the characters removed. Photos of the Springfield Show in it's 3-Stage CEC format can likely be found online.

I will gladly answer your questions. 1.The called themselves Showbiz because in 1983 Chuck E. Cheese and Showbiz merged. But stayed separate restaurants. 2.These animatronics were the ones they used from the early 80s to early 90s. 3.The guy in the costume, is because of a live show. Where the guy in the costume would perform with the animatronics. Any other question? I would be glad to answer them :)
