The real star of this video is the Late Great Chris Vadala who played a great Soprano Sax Solo, the picked up Flute for a few bars behind Chuck and then wrapped it up on Tenor Sax. RIP Chris is was great knowing you and your musicianship.
Mr. Vadala didn't let cancer stop him...he was a legend & scholar who kept right on working till the end NEVER missing an engagement or opportunity to work & share his knowledge..rip brother.🙏🏽❤🕊⚘🙏🏽🕊⚘
I met Chris at one of his medical appointments. Got to talk to him awhile about his music and how much it meant so much to me growing up. He was very kind and gracious. Even sent me one of his CDs. Just a wonderful human being. He is greatly missed.
My condolences for your loss. I saw your Uncle perform many times back in the eighties and nineties. What an incredible talent he was. I still have an autograph he signed for me back in 1980 when I was fifteen. He was gracious and kind when he chatted with me as a kid. Such an incredible player. Gone too soon... :-(
Chuck Mangione is the only reason I ever bought a Flugelhorn!! He is an absolute monster and master of music! This lineup was the best of all time and I so very much enjoy watching these videos!! I saw him perform many times in the 70's, 80's and 90's and will never tire of his music. Chris Vadala was best musician to play with Chuck. May he rest in peace.
He sadly passed away five years ago. He was a talented musician and an amazing father. A great man. There are many tributes on RU-vid dedicated to him now :)
Chuck, Chris Vadala on clarinet, flute and sax, Grant Geissman on guitar, Charles "Mean Man" Meeks on bass and James Bradley Jr on the skins. That was a legendary team of musicians there.
I give so much thanks to God for this Jewel video to be available for all of us to witness and enjoy the greatness of Chuck Mangione and his band. Sound is excellent and well syncronized with the instruments and every stroke. I can't have enough of this video; watch it every day. Thank you Leatherlips.
Approximately 15 years ago, my brother and I attended a Chuck Mangione concert at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, Ca. Two of my favorite Chucks songs are “hill where the lord hides” and “chase the clouds away”. The band played both of these songs and sounded great!! I particularly liked Chris Vadalas playing and am sorry to hear of his passing 😀
@@scorsese1 I was totally wait for Charles to pluck at @3:50 and of course... he did... that was great... French Horns... Tonight show mix of players...
My 6th grade music teacher Mr.john Thomas played the horn like this1978 , now I know where it came from...To bad I was pre occupied with hard rock and heavy metal at the time.I really wanted to learn play e f sax, never get thoughs days or brain cells back ...
I was from Lockport. Our associate pastor took us to a Mangione/RPO Concert. Had never heard of him before. It was a good concert, but when I heard "Hill Where the Lord Hides" as a single that summer, I said, "I know I've heard that before." Have always loved his music. He was supposed to perform in Buffalo at Kleinhans the day after Flight 3407 crashed-- what a loss, especially Gerry Niewood, who was a legendary sax player, and Coleman Mellett. Msangione came back that Fall and performed an emotional concert in 2009 that brought the house down. Great to see this clip from "The Tonight Show".
@@daveshambach275, Yes! Rochester, NY girl here...God Bless All that passed on that Flight and the Man at home in Buffalo, NY. RIP Gerry and Coleman! Regular guys, friends with my Dad (predeceased). Had tickets for the next days show at The Eastman Theater..A month or so later became a "Tribute" Show...God Rest their Souls!
Thank you to the one who provided this great video clip! It was Chuck's "Feels So Good" that got my ear and heart to listen to something other than Pop/Rock music growing up during my jr./high school days. Saw him twice at the old Universal Amphitheatre LA during school days. Live at the Hollywood Bowl STILL sounds awesome today. Charles "Mean Man" Meeks on bass, James "Jail Bait" Bradley, Jr., on the drums, and on "Everything" Chris Vadala, per Chuck from LATHB. Great music from The Man Chuck Mangione, his group and musicians! Thank you Chuck!!!
Absolutely. And Grant G driving the song with this guitar. Amazing the sounds he can get out of the ES-175. (Also, is he like 12 in this video?!? So young! ;-)
Any of us who lived through this magical time with that group of special musicians was blessed beyond imagination. I’m sorry to hear of Chris passing. He is legend. Treasured performance.
HILL WERE THE LORD HIDES 1 MY PERSONAL LOGICAL FACINATING FAVORITE SONG THEME OFF ALL TIME DEFINTLY FROM THE LEGENDARY FLUGEHORN TRUMPET PLAYER CHUCK MANGIONE STILL THE BEST OFF ALL TIME DEFINTLY 👍👁️👁️😀😘😍😀😂😃😘😁😂😀😃
My TOP TRUMPETIST!! My assistant pastor asked me, at the time, who was I listening to in the parking lot. I said Chuck Mangione. He said, you should check out Phil Driscoll hes better. I nearly said to him, SHIIIIIIIIID! FOH! 😂
Oh it looks like I was not quite nine. My folks probably watched this episode I probably had already fallen asleep. Alas and shit. But damn that was really amazing. you’ll never see anything like that on TV now except maybe some stupid award show.
Inacreditável uma apresentação espetacular desse FENÔMENO, uma postagem nota 1000 , tem cinco pessoas que deram DESLIKE. Uma postagem SUPER saudável totalmente UP. SENSACIONAL!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ed Shaughnessy just enjoying the tune. For anyone interested, the rest of the Chuck Mangione band include Grant Geissmann on guitar, Charles Meeks on bass and James Bradley Jr. on drums.
Gerry Niewood (April 6, 1943 - February 12, 2009), born Gerard Joseph Nevidosky, was an American jazz saxophonist and flautist who worked often with Chuck Mangione. Like Mangione, Niewood was born in Rochester, New York, and graduated from the Eastman School of Music.. He worked with Mangione from 1968 to 1976 and shortly after led a band with Dave Samuels. [From Wikipedia] A tragedy, no doubt: He died in a plane crash in Bflo, NY...
