I used to watch Wonderama with Sonny Fox on 5. THEN, I found Chuck McCann over on 11. No more Sonny. Chuck was a vastly superior entertainer on Sunday Mornings!!! So creative, soooooo much fun!!!!! I only watched Chuck's Sunday morning shows, never watched the after-school shows; too busy playing I guess! RIP Chuck McCann, Thanks for the Great Childhood Memories!!!!!
I was in the studio at channel 5 and talked with Chuck often whike he was in Makeup with Carmen Geba. I was sad to see him go over to PIX. Sonny Fox was the best on Wonderama. Sonny was a warm and friendly man. He always invited special people to his home for summer BBQ. Every summer my dad would have a huge clam bake at our house with a lot of major TV personalities and crew. I was not allowed to tell any of my friends either. But we always had a blast. Soupy Sales was always there along with Chuck, Sonny, Sandy Becker, David Suskind, Alan Burke, news personalities etc. All had a great time
He was a totally delightful and wonderful person with a great sense of humor. Millions of children who grew up in New York during the sixties have warm memories of him. Rest in Peace, dear childhood friend. (By the way, his Laurel and Hardy impressions were the best).
I grew up watching Chuck Mc Cann on local TV in the New York area on WPIX Channel 11. He was one of several kids TV hosts back then. He also did the voice for years of "Sonny", the "coo coo for cocoa puffs" commercials, and did numerous other voice overs as well as TV shows and commercials. One of the funniest men I remember from my childhood. His imitation of Oliver Hardy was unmatched. A very talented comic actor with a very prolific career . Rest in Peace, Chuck...
