I used to watch The Beverly Hillbillies and think how beautiful the girl who played Miss Hathaway's Secretary was without realizing she was Sharon Tate and she had already been brutally murdered along with her unborn child and friends. I still watch the Hillbillies and have a new appreciation for Miss Hathaway's beautiful secretary. I feel so sad for her and the others and their families. May they rest in peace and happiness forever.

Yes. They had Miss Tate wear a brunette wig because they didn't want to expose her just yet because they were going to make a film star of her and television was considered a less than media for someone they wanted to be a movie star. But they wanted to give Sharon some practice of her craft. Look it up. It's there.

Fascinating. In April 1994 I visited California and was driven up to Cielo Drive. The gate was open so I just walked in. The constructions workers were there preparing the house for demolition. They took no notice of me there which was somewhat surreal. I often wonder if I am the only person in Ireland who actually saw the house. It was a haunted house to me. Where an idyll had turned into horror. Those brief moments have stayed with me to this day. This is my tale from Cielo Drive. One day in 1994

I think it's sad that this beautiful house was torn down and replaced by a generic and grotesquely huge McMansion. The country house blended in with its surroundings and had charm. The new house is ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb. Erasing the house doesn't erase what happened there. It will always be a place of tragedy, no matter what anyone does to change how it looks

New Normal: nah….. it was fine….. through the years it has been kept up, upgraded, modernized, at least for the most part. Not saying that it was “perfect”, but the reason it was torn down is simple, - the person who bought it was just wanting to maximize their investment by building a really ostentatious house. While the original house at 10050 Cielo was comfortable, and certainly was a large home, it was not what immediately comes to mind when one thinks “Hollywood movie star Mansion.” Although, it certainly could fit in and hold it’s own when compared to other homes of the area - the “Love House” was and still would be quite nice. What was unique about the love house, and it’s near Twin, 10048 which sits below on its own plateau, with its own fantastic view, is that they were built, specifically to complete one’s fantasy of a farm style home, yet include modern amenities that they did not have in the time period of which the style mimicked. It was, just like many other things in Hollywood, a “fantasy” Complete even with a sleigh in the yard; a wooden wagon, which really was a hidden incinerator; rustic wishing well with a covered roof top; country style split rail fence; shrubbery & greenery placed in just the proper places to make the illusion complete……. Now where else could you find such a house in glamorous Beverly Hills???? that is what made 10050 & 10048 very unique and special. On a separate note, has anyone else heard about Michelle Morgan’s , (the original owner of 10050) scary paranormal experiences at 10050, which prompted her to sell the estate? Many people do not know that the cul-de-sac that people call Cielo Drive, the portion that leads up from the main Cielo Drive to the gate at 10050, was originally just simply the long winding private driveway of 10050, just like 10048 has it’s own long private driveway. Portions of the original estate land had been sold, and the right of way given to those owners, allowing them to use the private drive also.

The mansion surprisingly was bought for only $200,000. I live in Los Angeles county and now, you can't even buy a house in the ghetto for $200,000. My parents bought a house in Huntington Park with 2 lots for $40,000 in 1974. I am glad they did.

@@clemflynn7067 the house wasn’t worth much, but the land it was sitting on was. The owner could have kept the house, but likely it wasn’t worth what it would cost to update it, so what could he do but keep renting it out? That wasn’t where the money was. The way he could make the most was to sell the house and land it was on, and he made a nice profit, considering what he paid. I agree the new house is obnoxious, but that’s the way it goes.

I was at a party just 5 houses down from the 10050 address. Around midnight, someone had the suggestion to walk down to the grounds where the massacre had happened. It was only 5 years after the tragedy. Supposedly everything was still the same. Same gates, same telephone pole that Tex climbed to snap the phone lines, ECT. It was a bit eerie, witnessing this famous site where horror had engulfed numerous lives resulting in their deaths. I wanted to get the heck out of there immediately but the "hangers on" insisted on trying to get further into the property. I walked away in disgust, visualizing the absolute mayhem that occurred at that property. I didn't take a momento or a souvenir from the area. I found it too disgusting to do so. It was 1975 and I was only 17 years old, but looked like I was 25, an early bloomer. Full facial beard growth, shaven, and deep voice. Those were the attributes that got me invited to various parties. I wasn't even born in California. Anyway, the entire situation was horrific and I'm so sorry for the victims and the families.

As beautiful as it was, to me, the house had an aura about it, almost doom like. When I see pictures of it, it's secluded and arguably the best view in BenedictCanyon. It's seclusion made this house the best AND worst place for Sharon to end up. Because of the conflict Manson had with Wilson/Melcher, he had his designs on this house and all who occupied it. It was in essence, cursed. Manson was told Melcher had moved out but I don't think he really believed that. I think he thought Terry was still there...when he showed up 2 weeks before the murders looking for Terry and Sharon's photographer told him Melcher had moved and shooed Manson off the property, maybe when he seen Sharon , he mistakenly thought it was Terry's gf Candi Bergen and that they still were living there. Thus 2 weeks later, the murders happened. I could be wrong but it's just a feeling I have. Manson may have spewed his helter skelter babble and some may have believed it....but the murders on August 8, 1969 had nothing to do with Helter Skelter and everything to do with Melcher and Mansons anger towards Melcher and the rejection he felt.
@HAllegraLansing
@HAllegraLansing 2 года назад
I agree - although the event where he showed up was on March 23rd, nearly six months before the murders. Sharon left the next day for Italy and didn’t return until mid-March when her film shoot wrapped. There was something about the seclusion of that home that made it feel safe and yet also attracted those killers. Very sad…
@ahcapella
@ahcapella 2 года назад
Your Candice/Sharon confusion theory makes sense…but for one additional fact: a month or two before the murders, Charles Manson phoned up Gregg Jakobson and asked him if Melcher had a green spyglass at his house. Jakobson told him “Yes,” to which Charlie said, “He doesn’t now,” without offering any further explanation. (The “family” had recently creepy-crawled Terry’s current residence and stolen Doris Day’s telescope…which, it is said, was subsequently used during “Black Panther patrol” at Spahn Ranch!) That event establishes that Manson knew damn well where Terry Melcher was then living-at his famous mom’s beach house in Malibu, _not_ at 10050 Cielo Drive.
@HAllegraLansing
@HAllegraLansing 2 года назад
@@ahcapella Yes - we know that Manson knew for sure that Melcher was no longer living at Cielo by August 9th. I think a lot of their friends knew more than they were telling about Sharon and things that had gone on at the house. I think most of them were using drugs at the time and had drugs in their homes and really didn't want to deal with detectives snooping around. I think they were all afraid for their lives and afraid of getting arrested, who could blame them? It had to be a really spooky time for all of them. I think the biggest joke is the way Sharon's image has been so sugar coated over the decades out of sympathy for her. From what I've heard her pregnancy wasn't stopping her from doing her fair share of partying both here in the US and in Europe. I think both her and Roman put up a false front about how thrilled she was over the pregnancy and how "healthy" she was trying to be to deflect any suspicion if there was problems with the pregnancy, because I have heard from people that knew her that she was doing drugs in spite of it, due to being addicted, and that neither one of them had really wanted it in the first place. I was told by a friend of hers that she couldn't make up her mind about it, waited too long to get an abortion, and then decided that she was going to just not worry about it, thinking that all the drugs she was doing would likely cause a spontaneous abortion. I have heard she was addicted to heroin. When that didn't happen and the pregnancy seemed to be going to full term, she tried to come to an acceptance of it and get excited about it, but this friend told me that Sharon had complained to her that she hadn't felt the baby move for weeks and was concerned that it might be stillborn. So very different from everything we've heard about it in the media. She said Sharon was very concerned about her Catholic mother finding out that she might have killed her baby, that Sharon's mother was overjoyed about the pregnancy. With everyone feeling so bad about what happened to her, nobody was going to come forth and talk about something like that at the time. Her image has become so sugar coated since, and of course, Debra Tate is ready to bite the head off of anyone that says one bad word about her, and certainly nobody was going to bring up something like that while Doris Tate was still alive. I hope more info comes out in the future.

Manson had a "talent" for getting others to do the killing for him, not that Watson or Van Houten, or Atkins needed much convincing. Did Manson ever himself kill anybody? Maybe not. But did Adolph Hitler ever himself kill anybody even in World War I? He was a messenger between trenches. Manson talked middle class young people into murder. Hitler talked a whole nation into murder.

Wow, even the first part of this story is spooky enough in itself with all the affairs and strange events that took place long before the murders in ‘69. I never really knew about some the earlier instances leading up to that horrible night. But this video is very explicit and well put together. It’s definitely intriguing enough to follow up with part 2.

There are some films on the net of pre Manson life at the Sharon Tate/Roman Polanski house and it was normal everyday life for a younger wealthy set of friends. It was very normal life of good friends and for the most part these people were not uber celebrities of that era but socialites and up and coming celebs. What drew Manson was that Terry Melcher had lived there and even tough Manson was a talentless buffoon he had it in his mind Melcher was his downfall and had Melcher helped him he'd be a great success so it seems he sent his goons to the Tate/Polanski house out of vengeance. Who knows? He was a monster. Interestingly, growing up in show business Terry Melcher spotted Manson for what he had been which is a nutcase and hightailed it out of the house. Home was knocked down years ago.

I know this is going to sound very strange. But maybe the weird happenings and oddities several people experienced there including Sharon Tate before the actual murders took place, was due to not what happened in the past but what was going to happen in the future? Maybe there’s a portal or something in that area? I’ve heard of this theory before and I know it sounds unbelievable to skeptics out there but I’m wondering if there’s some truth to it. I know when Sharon was living with Jay Sebring when they were engaged she had a nightmare while staying in the house alone while Sebring was out working. What she described in the nightmare was like a premonition of what was going to happen to her a few years later at Cielo Dr. I know it really shook her up to say the least. Seeing your own death even in a nightmare would be mortifying.

.Great information, especially for those of us who have become fascinated by this house! But it should be noted that the WINDOW in which Michele Morgan was perched while sketching in the publicity photo ( as shown @6:06 ) was accessible via the second floor of the _garage._ (That’s *not* a shot of one of the upper-level living room windows-in case anyone is confused about that. You can tell by the abundance of roof shingles below the window frame; the two upper-level living room windows didn’t have shingles below them.) For Michele to get from the half-loft on the west side of the living room to one of the upper-level windows on the _east_ side of the living room would have required her to take a running leap, after which she’d have to fly approximately nine feet across the room-a feat worthy of Spiderwoman!
