CES won’t be a strict bench guy. When healthy he’s most likely to shift between 1B and DH. They’re also much improved for starting pitching as they won’t have guys like Luis Cessa, Luke Weaver, Connor Overton, and Ben Lively being regular starters.

I actually liked Ben Lively as a starter. He got thrown to the wolves in that game against Chicago but before he went down with his injury he was giving them some solid starts. He definitely pitched better then Weaver and Cessa.

This line-up reminds me of how the Big Red Machine started. A bunch of young talent, unknown pitching. That all started with Rose, & Bench. it took a couple years to get going but when they did they were unstoppable. Something that these Reds fans are hoping for.

I don't get the Reds being considered an average team like nobody is talking about how Jeimer is a good hitter to add and nobody is talking about the young guys Mclain or Benson. Everybody is like oh well Elly could break out or Noelvi should be good but Mclain last year in 89 games hit .290, 16 homers, 50 rbis, 14 sb, and is a +++ defender and a 129ops+ . If he played the whole season he woulda had 30 homers, 25 sb, and 91 rbis. He raked last year and with being a great defensive infielder nobody seems to point out what he could do. Seriously he had 3.7 War in 89 games and I'm seeing posts from MLB and MLB network on predictive stats having him at like 3.5 WAR at age 24 ppl are expecting him to have less value this year than the half season he played last year. Also Benson last year had a 130 ops+ and raked the last half of the season. My final point is talking starting pitching like the Reds won 80+ games last year with Ben Lively, Luke Weaver making 10+ starts each and injuries to guys like Ashcraft, Greene, and Lodolo. Ppl forget in the first month of the season Lodolo was incredibly before he broke his leg. Same for Ashcraft. Greene wasnt as good but was more consistent and now the reds have Montas, Martinez young emergers like Abbott and Williamson and nobody thinkings this team will be better. 82 Wins for a young team all the rookies are aging and getting better and the reds have a better rotation and bullpen how does a team at 82 wins lose pretty much no important piece and gain multiple good players and we dont predict them to be better like this team could win 90 games if the coaching staff does fumble

I like the convo, but they mention the rotation last year. They failed to mention Luke Weaver had 21 starts at a 6.87 ERA. I believe he had a 12 ERA in the 1st inning. When he started the Reds were usually losing. Luis Cessa had 6 starts early with a 9 ERA. Conner Overton had 3 starts 12 ERA. Had double digit mlb debuts in the rotation. They get 4 guys make 27-30 starts they better than last year no doubt!

1. Friedl 8 2. McClain 4/6 3. Steer 7/INF 4. CES 3/DH 5. Candelario 5/DH 6. EDLC 6/5 7. Fraley/Benson 9/7 8. Marte/India 5 (India 4/OF/DH) 9. Stephenson Very young lineup but stud prospects and consistent bat to ball skills. Very good Athletically as well. Pitching is our big question mark. Need guys to stay healthy. Also have quality pitching in AAA ready to come up. Bullpen is a plus this year. Health health health!!

All these infielders will get time, especially when the injury bug hits. I think Marte will be the opening day 3B (if healthy) given that the Reds showed last year how much play they love to give their young guys. Also, David Bell loves to platoon and they have a great opportunity to do that with Lefties and Righties pretty evenly spread out through the lineup. I think the hype behind this Reds team is fair but I do agree with Trev that a few of these young guys need to get to the Rutschman/Henderson level for the Reds to legitimately compete. Hope to see it happen! Side note: I think India will be the odd man out when everyone is healthy

I will say in 22 I hated what we were doing tearing everything down and starting over but Nick Krall got it right. The reds gave us a taste last year of what the future could be. I still think they’re a couple years away from truly competing but the division is very much wide open this year so why not Cincinnati for the central division title.

Well we don’t have to worry about any trades and all that infielder depth is going to pay off with McClain and marte out as well as Friedl. The lineup looked pretty good on opening day. I really like Steer hitting 7th because if he has fraley and Cruz on base there’s a good chance they can both score on a ball in the gap or down the lines. Need to start out the month of April strong because May will be brutal with around 20 games against the west. Let’s go Red Legs!

Listen Hunter Greene has shown serious flashes of ace material. The fact that you are discounting him because of his pitch mix is ridiculous. A well located fastball is the hardest pitch to judge and hit in baseball. If you cant locate it, you will get lit up. Doesn't matter who you are. If he locates his pitches, he has the stuff.

Noelvi should hit last if he is starting and I easily got Benson over Fraley Benson was the most valuable hitter over the last few months of the season. Also Elly honestly should probably be hitting 8th and Strand is prolly more a 5 or 6 guy 4 is a bit wild when Steer easily has hit better time and time again

As an orioles fan last years reds were INCREDIBLY similar to the 2022 orioles that took a big leap and have the potential for more the next year. It would take a helluva lot for the reds to get to 101 wins, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the reds take the Central, especially if they can add a solid SP

Jimmy historically has bad takes on teams outside of the AL East and top contenders… that comment he made about teams not having anything else going for them when they lead the league in stolen bags being shit on when Jake said they were also 10th in OPS is one of my all time favorite moments. Also no one on earth has ever said Greenes fastball was a masterpiece. Everyone knows he needs to improve. Wild take. Also when Elly came up his throwing ability was like the 5th most talked about thing about him. The fact he’s 6’4+, is a switch hitter, has nuclear piss power, and is literally the fastest guy in the bigs were talked about way more.

June / July baseball in Cincy was electric. After our ownership basically antagonizing the fans with "where you gonna go?" and the better options with FCC and Bengals, I was just looking for entertaining baseball. We were lacking that for quite a few years and we received it with all the young talent joining the team this past year. My expectations this year are muted, but I feel like we might be grinding towards a Neo Big Red Machine if we keep encouraging homegrown talent and not being a farm team for larger markets.

Genuinely disappointed in this one. 1. CES is an everyday 1B or DH, not a bench guy. 2. Marte is everyday 3B, that’s not a debate and been said many times by coaching. 3. Look at how many starters pitched for the reds last year, by far the most, with costs by injuries to the staff having Career triple A guys make 5-6 starts for the team. 4. This team is not trading any second year player, especially not an eveyday player, like Spencer steer. There is way too much talent on the team, unless an injury happens, for them to have a need to trade for anything else. Do better.
