I think honestly as a Ms fan i find the whole CF discussion tough moreso because the top 2 guys at a premier defensive position are either aging out in Trouts case or just out of position due to roster construction in Judges. At this point specifically either of them being called CF feels off.

It's the argument of speed and defence versus pure hit tool and power. Trout (when healthy mind you) is still one of the best hitters in the league and Aaron judge does Aaron judge things. But there's a reason their defensive center fielder list is second to the bottom and why judge would ever see center field in the first place. And Julio is elite no doubt, and the hit tool is great, but not judge great. These guys, if you watch all the tier lists, put a lot of stock into career longevity and past performance. That kind of just is what it is

I also don't even blame the idea of giving them three good years before eating them too highly, I just wish defense did matter more for at least CF.

Man the Julio disrespect to not put him in S when he has 5 WAR(almost 6 fwar btw)in both of his first two seasons and had 100 RBIs, 100 runs, 30 homers, 30 stolen bases, a 128 WRC+ in his second season, while on top of that being the best defensive center fielder in the American League. Every argument Jake tried to make literally explains why Julio should’ve been a S tier player. How is that not an S tier player?

Because the guys above him are a guy who’s a year removed from an 11 WAR season and had 5+ WAR in 50 less games than Julio last year. And a guy who might not have a single 155 game stretch with a sub 6 WAR in his 13 year career.

I understand using the beginning of the year slump for julio against him, but to not take into consideration the fact that ok we get league average hitting but stellar defensive and speed... but then not use the fact trout hasnt finished a season healthy in like 5 years against him is weird.

One thing on Jake Meyers is they definitely had hopes for him at first, he came up and pinch-hit in the 9th in a one run game in dodger stadium for his MLB debut! statcast data actually looks pretty alright year 1 and the glove is legit but he broke his collarbone (i believe?) early in those 2021 playoffs and is yet to bounce back. would love to see it happen for him.

regarding Julio's slow starts, the marine layer in seattle is more prevalent earlier in the year, basically heightening the T-mobile Park effect. Not saying that's the only reason, but it is a factor.

Azocar isn't our starting center fielder on the Padres. It's probably going to be Jackson Merrill, a top 15 MLB prospect (#12), who (shocker) was a SS moved to outfield. I know y'all are busy and love the show but would appreciate a tiny bit more research if you guys could make the time!

Pirates fans definitely don't hate Suwinski! He can be a little frustrating with his streakiness and inconsistency at the plate, but he can be a plus defender in the outfield and the power is real. He's also 25 like you said, so there's a lot of optimism about his potential.

We do NOT hate Jack Suwinski. There is a pocket of Pirate fans thats are not very appreciative of Jack, but I think he has started to win them over. But, speaking on behalf of real actual ball knowing Pirate fans, we like Jack Suwinski. He was rushed through the minors, came pretty much straight up from Double A, has been really solid for us. The biggest complaint, or most common, is I hear people say that he never hits when it counts. He had a real bad stretch where he was COLD and couldn't hit anything, and all around that stretch was like garbage time hits and homers off of position players. But thats not really fair. He is super young and making adjustments and getting better. I have high hopes for him.

Friedl was indeed undrafted. He redshirted and as a result nobody realized he was draft eligible until it was too late. But instead of going back for another year, he ended up signing after the draft.

Edman is there because he can play a decent Center Field and they have Donovan as their OTHER Super Utility Guy that they want playing. If they keep Edman in the Middle Infield then you're trying to find time for Him, Gorman, Donny, and top-prospect Winn. Winn is their Starting SS until proven otherwise. Gorman and Donny sharing Second will still allow them to get ABs with DH on their off days or Donny will be in the lineup when he spells Arenado or Goldy. So if Edman is there too then you've got Donny or Gorman on the bench when you want their bats in the lineup. If Edman can play Center then play him in Center until someone (Carlson, hopefully) dethrones him.

james outman has more power against righties, but his batting avg. is better against lefties, actually. i don’t think the dodgers will platoon him any time soon. maybe a game off here and there, but not a strict platoon like joc is.

Suwinski is polarizing for Pirates fans, you either love him or hate him. I personally hate him. Decent glove and good power, but not a good batting average and always seems to fall short when he needs to come through in the clutch.

I think JRod could be in S tier. But when you compare the 2 other dudes in each category, he is defensively closer to the A tier guys and offensively closer to them too. Judge and Trout are both top 15 all time for OPS+ right now. They are so far beyond JRod with the bar. They play good defense and you expect .950 OPS at minimum. JRod you would be happy with .800-.850. He belongs A tier to me.

Trout and Judge are in S because of their bats. Their defense at this current point are not close to Julio, Robert and Harris. Gold glove caliber from those three vs average as at best from judge and trout at their current age. I don't think Julio should be in S but let's not overrate judge and trouts defense. They're there because of their bats and that's it.

@@brettadiah10 I said they play good defense. That is true. Trout has been 80th percentile or better the last two years in range, still a good arm, and 90+ percentile sprint speed. Judge is much better in RF than CF, but he still did enough to play the position in 2021 and he is the best hitter in the sport. I agree the huge gap in bats is why they are the only 2 S tier guys, and I said that the 3 in A tier are better defensively.

Argeed, all Cardinal Fan love Noot. I just don't love him in Center. He's best in a Corner Outfield Spot. Carlson and Edman are both better defensively and Walker is going to be posting up in Right so I want him in Left, not Center.

it means you cut up or present a player’s stats in a more positive light. for example, if they were to say, “outside of a bad april, x player batted a, b, c.” meaning april brought their stats down so much, but after april, they were much better. adding context, essentially.

Julio's entire 2023 was made in one-month. His August was historically great. The rest of the season was a whole lot of mid. Julio is closer to Harris/Robert than he is to Trout/Judge.

Since I'm one of the 10 Marlins fans, Jazz is way too low. Yes, he can't stay healthly, but he was a high level CF in his first year playing the position. His reaction and speed in CF is elite. Hit well when healthy as well. The whole MLB the Show cover stuff caused a lot of hate for him for no reason

Probably because while Duran had an OPS .162 worse away than at home, Judge had an OPS .162 BETTER away than at home. The difference is exactly as large but in the opposite direction.

As a Mariners fan I don't actually have a problem with the Julio placement at all. He's one of my favorite players and I love watching him play but the stats don't exactly jump off the page the way that Judge and Trout do when they're healthy... like Jolly said, I would rather have Julio in the 2024 season than Trout, and possibly even Judge, but it's because of health. Julio will likely be out there for most of the season (knock on wood) but with Judge and especially Trout you can almost pencil them in for missing at least 30-40 games, and at worst, miss half the season or more. All this to say, I guess, that if health is a consideration, Julio should be S tier, but if we're only considering on-field performance and assuming the guys as healthy, I think the tier list is fine.

Is Trout great? Sure. But the complacency with losing, not speaking out during the lockout, and yeah the injuries. All have been very bad for baseball.
