Yes. He rebuked her by saying “He’s a decent family man [and] citizen that just I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and that’s what the campaign’s all about. He’s not [an Arab].” Because we all know that Arabs can't be decent family men. /s
@@carlosjaramillo9702 The old lady’s words were “I don’t trust Obama. He’s an... he’s an Arab.” That’s when Senator McCain rebuked her very gently. Obviously he was taken aback which is why he said at the end that he’s not an Arab. He was uncomfortable with the nasty rhetoric that was emerging during his campaign and encouraged by Sarah Palin. (Bad choice on his part.)
What a lovely person she is, Cindy McCain. Nice story about how she and John met 🙂. Their friendship with the Bidens across party lines is beautiful and inspiring.
This version of the story does sound nice. I'm glad all involved found happiness. This is the story of a 43-year-old married senator starting an affair with a 25-year-old. One of many admitted affairs while his wife and children were at home waiting for dad to come back from work trips.
@@deborahfreedman333 I would but it would be inaccurate. Doesn't matter where the sperm and egg came from. John adopted those two boys. So, his three children were home with his wife Carol in April, 1979 when John met Cindy and described falling in love with her by the end of the night. John listed the separation from Carol as January 7th, 1980 in his court petition when he filed for divorce on February 19, 1980. John filed for a marriage license on March 6th, 1980. His divorce was granted on April 2nd, 1980. He married Cindy on May 17th, 1980. These are just the facts, not my opinion. I'm a deeply flawed person myself. I liked John McCain and already cast my ballot for Biden. I just think this story does them all no favors, including Jill Biden, who apparently urged the married not separated senator to go talk to the (I was wrong in my previous comment about age 25) then 24-year-old Cindy. Again, I'm very happy for them all that after a painful period there was forgiveness and understanding from Carol and eventually their 3 children. That takes a ton of maturity from everyone.
@@knowledgesimjess John and Carol had difficulties in their marriage. Being a POW for so many years, John came home with a PTSD. Carol was not prepared to handle this. John was disappointed because he didn't get the understanding and the help that he needed. Carol was also disappointed, because John had been changed, not the man he married back then. The new John with his PTSD became a burden for Carol, not the kind of husband she needed. To avoid more conflicts, they basically lived separated lives although still legally being married. Carol did not file for divorce, because she'd feel guilty if she left a husband who needed her help. John did not file for divorce because he also felt guilty for not being the kind of husband that Carol needed, and because he felt the responsibility to provide for her and the children. I did not blame Carol, I might also not be able to handle a spouse with such issue. But I also couldn't blame John because of his condition. Their marriage basically had been over long before their divorce.
I have the same bday as john mccain and I've def had relationships go like that. Life isn't all black and white and super simple. No one can assume what anyone's else's life experiences were. Beyond democrat, republican or any party we are Americans and John realized and defended that. Trump has only fled from any military service, he's fled responsibility to the Americans since long before his presidency. God bless McCain family and Biden family. They have both experienced many hardships and instead of analyzing and dissecting their past I wish them healing on their journey forward. Losing loved ones is very hard, I lost my father at 61 and I feel for them both. 🙏
@ (1) At the point that McCain initially became a republican, the party was far different than it is today. (2) While I absolutely disagreed with McCain on a lot of issues, there was never a moments doubt that he genuinely wanted what he believed was best for the American people. (3) McCain didn't act in absolutes, he was willing to honestly and openly discuss issues and policies with those of differing opinions - to include changing his positions based on those conversations. (4) The republican party (as has _every_ political party and human being) changed over time. He certainly remembered what it once was and what he certainly believed it to ideally be, but as his wife is doing in this interview, I believe if he were alive today, he would be denouncing trump and the trump sycophants. I don't think he would leave the Republican party anymore than he would have left the USA - he would have tried to genuinely fix what he thought were the underlying problems.

Joe Biden and John McCain have been good friends for decades! Their families often dine together in Biden's backyard, with grandchildren running around and both men goofing around, much to the amusement of their wives!
That’s the problem with US two party system. How can you consider your countryman/woman your enemies just because they have a different political ideas or policy ideas than yours. John McCain is one of the bravest and most honorable men to ever walk the earth. We differed on some policies, but as a Democrat I give all my love and respect to John. He was a real republican. He loves the people of this country and fought alongside them in combat. Trump sadly destroyed the Republican Party and nearly every good thing it stood for.
The destruction of the Republican party began long before Trump. The massive Republican refugee surge of inbred sister f******, web-toed Dixiecrats when fled the Democratic party after the Civil Rights act in the early sixties was the final s*** icing on the cake. Trump would have been toxic no matter what party he was affiliated with... he is a fundamentally incompetent narcissistic sociopath - in short, the precise wrong kind of person to give any kind of power to, other than trailer park manager, or possibly Mall cop or convenience store assistant manager.
John McCain is the exact polar opposite of Donald "Bonespurs" Trump. He was a man of integrity and had a true moral compass. I will never forget him giving the "thumbs down" to the repeal of the ACA. It showed how much he cared for the PEOPLE of America........ALL the people of America! Trump is so immensely vain, immature and self-centered that deep down he's jealous of both Obama and McCain for their genuine popularity. He cannot stand it.
I never would have voted for McCain when he ran, but looking back, I realize that had he won, he would have served the national honorably, just as he did during his military service. I disagreed with him on many things but he was one hell of a man who actually had a sense of honor, of confidence, and of self. I wish his family all the best and think of them often. @The Crafty Cyborg it was a tough decision for me also but made much easier when they picked the unqualified Sarah Palin as the VP. That decision by the McCain campaign was the reason they lost me and many, many others.

With so many stories like this, and seeing exactly what she talked about regarding P-Donny and his blatant lack of respect, dignity, compassion, empathy, etc., it still amazes me that people would even consider voting for him. I don't agree with everything on the Democratic side, but until the Republicans can put forth a RESPECTABLE and HONORABLE candidate, I can't in good faith vote for them. And, after seeing first hand the actions of people like Cruz and especially Graham, I feel the exact same way about them. Its time for a change back to respectability and integrity.
Add another to your list, Purdue, the Republican Senator from Georgia, one of several who got informed about coronavirus in Jan, ran out to sell their stock and then lie to their voters. I’m praying Ossoff wins there Tues. Watch the video of Ossoff asking him about it during the debate. There once were honorable republicans, look at Eisenhower, but they’ve slowly been voted out of the party in the primaries, replaced by the Devin Nunes of the world. McCain: the Republican senator I respect the most. Willing to go against his party to support his morals. That’s what our representatives should be doing.
My dad is incredibly liberal. He admitted to me last year that he had voted for McCain in 2008 because he respected him so much and wanted to thank him for his service. I was SHOCKED. But, I get it. I miss bipartisanship so much.

I've heard many of your Husband's speeches, on what he believed, and wanted for the American people, which made me believe would have made him a great US President at this time, and over 100,000 Americans would have still been alive with their loved ones, because John McCain cared about our Country and it's citizens. Your Husband John McCain was a much respected, and Dignified Republican, which when he left us the Republican Party we knew left with him.
