@56:50 If I'm not mistaken, the cross product of two vectors will give you a third vector that is exactly 90 degrees from both vectors. Nice video, Chris!
I like this release, bug fixes, stability fixes and improved modeling and UV tools. They are starting to address the biggest issues with C4D. Wish they could do more with this and add a Edit modifier similar Max editable poly, that would bring a huge amount of people from the competing software.
Awesome video and a great explanation of all the features. I love how quick you rattle them off. Even though its an hour 30min long video not a second was wasted! keep it up
Nothing for hair fur grooming? scene optimization? tree plants grass generator? Smoothing dynamic? Clothing? Lighting? Rendering? Water simulations? Fire smoke? More modelling tools like quad caps? Select to circle? Feathers for birds? UV optimization? Like the new tool though. Most important quad remesher??? All we have new text tool, really ?? And some new library, lol
1. Nothing 2. Nothing meaningful 3. Nothing 4. Nothing 5. Nothing 6. Nothing 7. Denoiser, bunch of shader nodes like blur node 8. Nothing (why?) 9. VDB rendering with ProRender 10. New bevel engine (not just text), reworked modelling engine under the hood in general 11. What? 12. Feathers have been there for years, but I feel you, it's tricky to get them aligned properly 13. Nothing meaningful, only a UV free transform tool
I'm sick of setting up perfect seams on perfect ultra-simple topo, then going for ABF or LCSM and getting islands that are utter shite. I don't even do character modelling... can't imagine how hard must it be
I am an Art Director and Photographer and I use C4D to enhance my work, this update didn't meet my expectations but your DEMO of Force Field was AWESOME!
Very underwhelming release. I love how everything Maxon are spending their time on with their long awaited annual updates, Insidyium have already implemented into XP...Field forces are just flow fields in XP...Meanwhile the fundamental features that make up a 3D package are being left to rot..UV Tools are garbage, bodypaint!? Xpresso!!!! (Xpresso is so powerful but seriously needs some love)...When the highlight for this whole release for me is being able to go beyond 0-100% on the align to spline tag...I can safely assume it's underwhelming to say the least. Another note: Spending so much time implementing Prorender to then acquire Redshift!? That's like signing a deal to stock Bobs coffee then acquiring Starbucks...
Maxon still haven't given enough attention to the UV toolset. The ability to arbitrarily distort UV sections would be great if that was a common procedure while mapping out the UV layout but seriously, who ever needs something like that??? you need accuracy, efficiency, usability all with the confidence the program is taking care of the layout. This hasn't been addressed, so it makes more sense to subscribe to Rizom for their unparalleled software. UV mapping is a key aspect of all CGI. Maxon have given a stack of interesting features to people who like creating nothing more than random shit that requires no discipline to post on their Instagram feed.
So just to get this clear - no plugins from R20 will work in R21? We will be dependant on the thirdparty devs to release new compatible versions (perhaps for some upgrade fee)? Just like with e.g. DEM Earth and xParticles last year when upgrading to R20?
Hello, Iam have issues once Iam done tracking the scene and camera solve then Iam not able to select anything with my cursor. Cant select or use transform for move or scaling. Do you know what might be the issue? Thank You for any help :) and thanks for the nice tutorial.
I talked to a rep at the RS booth at siggraph today about redshift moving to the material node editor and he told me that it will happen with r21. I'm not sure if that means we will have to wait till the next RS release or what.
@@mitchellsack Of course they do. Increasing so. Entire studios have shifted over to it for even non-FX tasks like Lighting, Procedural Modeling(props especially), and CG abstract motion design. Its viewport is miles ahead of C4D's and it being node based makes it a no-brainer for lighting/rendering.
Hi Chris, thank you for this video, it's was a nice to watch as always. I was thinking, while watching you play around with Field Force, do you think it would be possible to create some sort of 3D fuild engine will all this power ? Using Emitters + Field force + Mograph + Dynamics + Volume builder / mesher ? If you manage to do it, you should just call it ChrisFlow 1.0 :D
A good thing is, that maxon still provides a perpetual license. Unfortunately the new subscription model will replace the Maxon Service Agreement. Maxon allready denounced my MSA.
Fields Forces don't get rendered themselves! They function like wind, or turbulence. They have an affect on other objects (particles/dynamics). Particles just need a child (Like a cube), then they render out : )
It's interesting to watch this as an old having used C4D for a while and then having switched to Blender and specifically the brand new Blender 2.80 as it went into full development, i wouldnt go back to C4D. especially as its a monthly subscription, even with the simplification of the UI and versions, what a difference a year has made, and a new version of Blender is making (which is $zero.00)
From Release 11.5 until NOW there is the same particle Emitter ONLY i just ask Did @Maxon Hate Particles ? Even after FUMEFX had been released for cinema !!!!! the particle system Or to be Accurate the Particle Mini System Still as it is if there no solid particle system also No Solid Fluid Simulations
Siggraph presentation was so boring and disappointing like nothing was really worth it. Thank you you've changed my mind regarding the new release) BUT. As I'm mainly an animator I can't justify some VERY NEEDED UPDATES aren't there. Nothing new in Timeline, no such needed things as independent zero level for speed curve and velocity ref., adequate selection sync between OM and TM, a way to turn off the parent animation not messing with children, no "keep visual angle" by default and so on, so on...(
I can hardly wait to try the text, finally the geometry looks more workable, I hate the seam you get with the current versions using deformers or displacement.
46:13 holy shit man you just show what we cinema 4d user are willing to get from it. bye bye houding for those comples code , now just use this field and boom on cinema 4d .......
Is there an alternative to the MAKE SINGLE OBJECT tab being removed from MoText in R21? Getting awful results with effects that use to use that feature.
I still use R21 as I purchased on a perpetual licence . Still works perfectly in windows 11. Maxon add many new features all the time but the reality is that no one uses all of them and many of them aren’t all they are cracked up to be. I think Maxon would be better off concentrating on being really excellent at a few things instead of trying to be the jack of all trades. It’s ended up with a lot of very average features that slow everything down. That’s why I stopped subscribing.
Any ideas why the viewport windows are not moving & scaling all together??? At least on my system, I can only move & scale them one at a time. Pretty annoying and time consuming.
@@RocketLasso I mean that in former versions the arrow cursor appeared where viewports intersect, sou you could scale all 4 at once. Meanwhile I figured out that in R21 you can still do the same synchronized viewport scaling... only that the geniuses at Maxon made the cross-arrow symbol disappear. It´s imply not there anymore.
This is the weakest C4D release I can remember, it even beats R17. Thank heavens I began learning Houdini because there's no sign of better viewport performance, Xpresso replacement, a modern particle system, unified dynamics, no bodypaint update the list goes on and on. But they have kept working on the abysmal ProRender even though they bought Redshift, work that one out! The Mograph mindshare is moving to Houdini and for good reason. Maxon has got greedy and dropped the ball. The Subscription thing is just a cherry sized turd on a giant turd dessert. R20 will be the last C4D I use.
But they did overhaul the particle system. Chris went on for a while with in the middle of this video. The subscription rate is about an 80% price cut so I'm not sure why so many people are complaining about that.
Dean Mellis if you have v20 then why pay 80% when it’s essentially paid for? There is plenty to complain about. So many untouched and outdated features; Xpresso, particles, Bodypaint, UVs... etc.
@@dmellis If you want to rent dated, single threaded software with sluggish a viewport that's your prerogative. If you think particles have been overhauled you're an idiot and deserve Maxon to take you to the cleaners. Much of C4D is an embarrassment and hasn't been touched in over a decade and working on large projects is an awful experience. I'm out.
How long do you think it will take Maxon to announce an indie / nc license now that Maya has one for a third of the price of C4D's new subscription, especially after the Maxon guy at Siggraph claimed "we're bring 3D to everyone" just to announce a still ridiculous price and then get embarrassed by Autodesk the day after as they actually bring their tools to everyone.
Well, AD is bringing their tools to middle class people in wealthy countries anyway. All they really did is un-gimp Maya LT. 3D for everyone would have to be free.
@Joseph Brandenburg Oh I agree, a free non commercial license would be bringing it to everyone, but with Maya's pricing I would say even working class people can now afford to buy it and do 3D stuff for a hobby, and they won't need to buy x-particles, a 3rd party renderer and uv'ing tools on top of the base price. They could even get Max or Houdini on top of Maya and it would still be 33% less than C4D. I'd say that's about as good as it's gonna get with a for profit company. Blender is slowing becoming more serious competition for these paid tools too, which could be why Autodesk are doing an Indie license now. And to clarify with the ridiculous price, I think the new price is great for people who can afford it, I'm saving money as a result, but in the context of the presentation where the guy outright stated it was wrong to charge so much, that they need to change like other industries have to bring 3D to everyone, just to then announce it still costs 3 grand or a $60/month subscription, it was just absurd. They didn't really bring 3D to anyone new.
Nice job, but really not much of an update this year. I like the new cap geometry, which had been terrible. Bevels are not exciting - they should have just fixed them as they were badly implemented before. And if 3D text is a big thing to a user, they certainly don't need an expensive app like c4d. First time I really felt let down by a full release. I think maxon is just figuring how to get more money while not doing much to improve the software.
I don't understand why companies think they'll get Autodesk's succes by copying their behaviour. Autodesk is successful because they get all their money from engineering apps. Maya, etc. is a toy they play with so they can feel powerful.
The problem of C4D was always the same, is the easiest sofware you can start to use and get decent results, but then it comes at a very high price, for example if you buy just one month it is near $100, while you can use photoshop for only 9.99 per month. this creates a problem in the maxon user baser because this program is really easy to use for example for high quality text in videos, small comercials etc.. etc.. but the price is a bit high, so a lot of people go to learn blender wich is much harder than C4D.
Hi Robert, as far as I know Maxon has grown every single year and the community has skyrocketed. Your statement implies that it was once relevant and no longer is? Sure you could argue that it's no Maya or Houdini for raw power, but 'relevant' seems a bit off.
