War has a way of wearing down the most weathered soldiers. For legendary Horde warrior Varok Saurfang, this one could very well be his last. WorldofWarcraft.com Subscribe! ru-vid.com_c...
@WolraadWoltemade 1652 He led the Alliance and Horde against Ahn'Qiraj in Classic, and later led the Horde against the Lich King in Wrath of the Lich King. His son was killed in action and resurrected as Deathbringer Saurfang, a boss in Icecrown Citadel, that should explain Varok's memory in the cinematic. Back in the day there were a lot of Chuck Norris style memes about Varok Saurfang and how badass he is. I don't think he was prominent before WoW, but canonically he also fought in the third war (Warcraft 3), and probably the wars before that.
@@Deolrin I believe ive read hes fought in all four wars now, im not sure but the WOD cinematic goes back only 35 years so thats a inkling towards that.
@@TurtleTime26 He "saved" him from a choice he made by himself. And it's not suicide, it's a ritual death. For once going to death to with his head held high for himself.
Varok Saurfang, an orc with a horrific past of inflicting and suffering tragedy. His mate, older brother (Broxigar the Red), and son (Dranosh) are all gone, and now in his eyes, the Horde he loves is gone. He’s an old man in a race of people where most die young in battle. I really encourage people to read this guy’s lore.
@@jinpachibobochan3532 I don't think he has "his own" book or a major role in any so far. But he has appearances in many as well as in various short stories etc. You can really just Google his name and can dig into a lot of stories and lore around him. It's really worth it!
I'm convinced more than ever that Blizzard should just make a full length animated movie. This 6 minute clip was amazingly cinematic and beautifully directed.
That's exactly what everyone was hoping for when they first announced a warcraft movie. Hoping they don't mistake the failure of a live-action azeroth for a lack of interest in any warcraft movie at all.
A Warcraft TV series would be way better. Movies force you to limit things which is why the film wasn't as enjoyable. TV Series can evolve much like the MMO has.
Hapsu I feel ya. I’m Alliance til I die but man, I cannot imagine how pissed Horde players must be. You guys deserve better. Wayyyyy better. I hope you get Saurfang next expac.
all races except the undead have something in common... the undead have a chip on their shoulder that will never go away, tho, in the Novel, some of the undead did show a different side, maybe there is hope, but I don't think so
Year later and I'm just realizing when Saurfang said "Too many." He was talking about all the night elfs that died in the flames, not the enemy across from them.
Could be both, but the fact that the troll said, "How many?" as opposed to "How many are there?" should be a giveaway and an opening to the interpretation.
"You have earned your warrior's death...my son. Yet once again, I am denied it." Your time finally came old timer, and you did not disappoint. For Azeroth!
Here again, after his warrior death. He's finally able to rest with his son and brother. *Farewell Varok Saurfang* the true image of honor. *LOK'TAR OGAR*
Member Berry Maybe you should find something better to do then try and make other people feel bad. At least he is passionate about something, enough to share his feelings about a beloved character here with us. Perhaps, you should find something better to do. You get a life.
Seriously though the fact that Saurfang unlike everyone else gets a full on Cinematic makes me think he's the most important character of the expansion, this stuff takes AGES to make.
Characters like Saurfang is why I respect Horde even though I play Alliance. He's been a badass all of his life, and his brother was the only mortal to have ever wounded Sargeras. His son died a death worthy of an orc, only to have his soul stolen and then turned into a death knight. Varok Saurfang, aka Saurfang Sr. Is an orc with regrets in his long life, and wishes to live and die with honor, and seeing how close he was to throwing his life away made me feel sad to see how disillusioned he was with the Horde's direction. I'm glad they put this young troll in there because he represents the new blood, those members of the Horde who have not yet sullied their hands with blood in battle, and who want to find something to rally to, and I think Saurfang realized how important he is to this generation of Hordies, who idolize him as a war hero, and maybe saw that the Horde still has hope of being lead back into a Horde of honor and comdradery
Yup, and I like the parallels with his brother Broxigar who also kept trying to die with honor, but always survived. Brox kept on doing that even after being sent to the past, and his bravery encouraged the defenders of Azeroths figthing the Legion, and then he went on and blocked Sargeras' path, saving Azeroth from its likely destruction at that time had Sargerous traversed the portal. Broxigar used to be in the exact same situation as Varok, but he went a diverging path by being the eternal hero who saved the world and died with the greatest of honor while his little brother will live on and be a living hero to his people and lead them to greatness.
You nailed it right on the head. I've played both Horde and Alliance. There is no true enemy here. Those who are corrupted are the enemy. Horde will sadly always be seen as the bad guys because of certain 'leadership'. But that's why I love the lore for. It has more in depth to it. I've played Aion, and beginning levels you saw the lore. Then as you maxed yourself in the game, the lore is non-existent. And this what saddens me...It has nothing on WoW.
sorry to burst your bubble. but i think he is going for a duel. a honorable/ suicidal duel. hence removing his armor and only wielding and axe. an orc tradition i think was no armor nor weapon. a Mak'gora but in the cinamatic when thrall and garrosh faught they used weapon, and thrall cheated and used the aid of the spirits and nature. in the Move Warcraft it was plain fist fight but Gul'dan cheated with use of fel magic. I aint much of an lore fan nor a faction fan (though i play alliance more then horde but got 5 endgame hordes) so thats only a opinion of mine. on the other hand. its true that the Forsake where only in the Horde for their own game. But i think a true Horde fan like the Horde as it was. that thrall wanted it to be and maintane. saurfang is one last i think ( just and opinion of mine ) that has such honor and wants that way back. not mass slaughter that holds no honor and potential genocide. thats why the Q that he gave in darkshore to get prisoners, innocent once that didnt take up arms to question them and release them afterward. cus thats honorable and thats the Horde that i like. not this that has been going on in legion and and in pandaria.
gallakall In a Mak'gora you can have one weapon of your choosing. Some state that the Challenger may choose both weapons even. But I think that your statement seems probable, considering he dropped his armor.. But who was to challenge, if Saurfang was looking for certain death?
He wanted a Mak'gora with the whole alliance army which would lead to his certain death. An honirable death at that. So that's what he wants, an honirable death to reclaim what's his - his honor
Gotta say, really wish there were more cinematics like this. A slower pace with story and character. I love the regular cinematics with amazing action but I also love these smaller, more personal story cinematics. PLEASE MORE LIKE THIS!
I wish they made a tv series like this. 12 episodes per season and each episode being around 20 mins long. Showing us the stories we've come to know and love like Arthas or even recreating the Warcraft movie and continuing forward. Even with the animation being at Vanilla's cinematic level it would be amazing and slightly easier. *That is my dream.*
Mannnn...I miss playing this game As u can tell I'm an old old (not in real life, I'm 15) admirer and veteran to this game, haven't played it since I think half a decade ago or so? "Never go easy on noobs unless they're your friends", - Me,2019.
Thia game is a distant memory for me now i played vanilla and bc Then private servers for lich king. Its been so long since ive played but fond memories for sure
@@tywinalexandercesaredanaed1819 Funny, I have played WoW 14 years ago... nearly before you even born :D And you would probably call me noob today. cause... i dont have enough time to grind
Doesn't need a new story. The one it has can fill 6 movies even with all the fringe elements cut from it and still be awesome. There are a lot of players these days that don't know the story of WC1, WC2, WC3, and the first 3 versions of WoW (Vanilla, BC, WotLK). After all there, there's still Cata, MoP, Draenor, and Legion. You could make a cinematice franchise to rival Star Wars in it's length and complexity.
Agreed, its cause he isn't a Warbringer like sylvanas and jaina, there is a reason azshara is in the group as well its because they are bad people. lets not forget that jaina MURDERED every blood elf in dalaran even killing the dragonhawks so as to not allow them to escape.
Not "every blood elf". Jaina is reacting to events brought upon her, she never dealt the first strike. Sylvanas has always done what is best for her and only her. Jaina has always tried to seek peace but peace is a lie it will never exist.
*High Lord Saurfang* abandoning his people to sit in an alliance cell. Only leaving his cell when implored to, by an alliance leader. No the horde deserves better than Saurfang, better than the Basnshe queen.
@@Infernal460 Had he gone with the horde champions and brought to Zandalar, he would've ended up in Sylvanas' hands. I don't think Nathanos would've let him leave the group so easily. Now, we don't know exactly what he has planned to do exactly, but he might be in a better place to work against Sylvanas then if he hadn't done what he did.
I love the music that plays when Saurfang has his moments. I wish I could listen to it over and over again but I can't find any videos or anything of it without the audio
"Honor, young heroes. No matter how dire the battle, never forsake it". Still putting out hope that one day we'll get a proper, full length WoW movie done like this. Beats live action any day!
I mean in all fairness, Saurfang is probably one of the only NPCs everyone (or nearly) likes--regardless of faction XD I'm strictly an Alliance player, but I have mad respect for Saurfang. He's the one person I will Lok'tar Ogar to.
It was this cinematic which introduced me to Saurfang as a relatively new player; I pretty much 'met' him at the same time that the troll did. From there I learned more about him and came to look up to him. I'd been playing a tauren up until this point but it was Saurfang's example that won me over to the Horde completely. Now he's become a martyr, and so help me I'll fight Sylvanas and her forces in his name. Lok'tar ogar, old soldier, and rest easy. You taught me what the Horde truly stands for, and we will remember you. :'(
it would be so expensive to make is the problem. I remember watching the behind the scenes of the legion cinematic trailer and i forgot what they exactly said but they said everything to a huge amount of time to make and i think thats why the warcraft movie wasnt full cgi
Joe, think how long the fans have been waiting for when it comes to the Warcraft movie. We're the fans who are willing to wait, despite so many being loud about speeding things up, the majority is willing to wait. As for the price to make it, well, they could sell some transmog items in the Blizz shop, people would buy them; as long as they're just appearance and nothing else, I'd say do it.
Expensive? At the height of WoW's popularity (12 million subscribers), at 15 bucks a month they were raking in 180 million EVERY MONTH. That's not far off from the budget of most high profile CGI-heavy feature films. One assumes Activision-Blizzard could easily foot the bill for a full movie of this caliber.
It's a huge risk involved when producing your own movie though. And they also have investors to answer to. It's not like they can on a whim say let's use all our resources on a CGI-based WoW movie.
This was a year ago, just a journey. The Old Soldier has earned his warrior’s death, and freedom from tyrant for the whole of Azeroth. Lok’tar Ogar, Varok Saurfang.
He's going to prison to discuss honor with Anduin. Either Saurfang or Thrall will kill Sylvanas. I think she'll off Thrall, and Saurfang gets revenge. Calling it now! (Alliance player as well).
when he said "live another day" and saurfang put his fist to his chest, he saw his son in that young troll. i've felt the same pain of losing my father, and having someone provide the mentorship in his absence. too bad i was betrayed..
why dont blizzard make full movies like this. and bash LOTR. you know theres millions wow follower is about time. make into movies, and book so our children can really enjoy.
"To ask why we fight... ... is to ask why the leaves fall. It is in their nature. Perhaps, there is a better question. Why do we fight? To protect Home, and Family... To preserve Balance, and bring Harmony. For my kind, the true question is: What is worth fighting for?"
What is worth fighting for? Survival and freedom. The Alliance would see the Horde disbanded or destroyed, and its peoples allowed to survive only if subjugated under the tyranny of their Light. This has ALWAYS been the quintessential conflict since the 3rd War. Eventually, we're going to run out of mutual enemies and world ending events to distract us. The sooner it's over with, the few people will suffer and die. Sylvanas knows this, and is the only one with the will to do what must be done to end this endless cycle of conflict and suffering.
Infernal460, as we saw here, he is open to the voices of the young and idealistic. That's a very good sign. Means his heart wants to be open and is not enslaved by his mind. Makes a very good leader. I hope Sylvanas is killed by the Undercity elevator. (And then banshees come to revive her and realize there is some powerful magic at work that prevents it. ... And then the elevator kills the banshees, too. ... And from that day forward, only those pure of heart would live in the city, and the Forsaken engage in a peace treaty with the Alliance.)
These cinematic cost roughly a million dollars a minute. And it takes roughly 2 years to create 10 minutes of cinematic at this quality for a capable team. You are asking for a 60 million dollar 12 year production. Which of course would cost and take much more time to create something beyond a single scene. And swallow up their cinematic team from creating video game cinematic. Id rather play video games.
60 million is nothing for a movie. They would easily spend twice as much for a 6 year production. PS: I call bullshit that they have worked on this video for 2 years straight. In 2 years we have a dozen videos like this.
When your feeling low and don't care about living for another day. Watch this and the Troll will say " live another day" and it what makes you want to.
God, remember the first cinematic? This is how far we've come now. There have been rough patches, but this game is as epic and beautiful as it was in the beginning.
A gorgeous CGI short with no action, no heroics and no spectacle - just a conversation and interaction between two characters. By far the best Blizzard has given us.
Action, heroics and spectacle is exactly what WoW is all about. The cinémati is nice and it's a good change of pace for once, but its in no way the best they've given... try Wotlk trailer instead, or any extension trailer except MoP
“The Horde is all we have.” This simple line it always give me many feels. Orcs? Taurens? Trolls? Forsaken? Blood Elfs? Even Nightborne... They... No... WE all vere betrayed, hunted, bleed in many ways. To many ways but we are now together. Horde is what give us now hope and unity. For the Horde... Always was, always is and always will. To the rest of mine life
I love the fact that Blizzard had a second part of the cinematic hidden inside their pocket all this time. Who came up with this brilliant idea deserves some credit.
the people who were bitching about the previous one almost sound like prophets, this cinematic delivered basically everything they would have wanted to hear out of Saurfang, at least in a way that makes sense for his character
Psh, my orc warrior does that all the time. Granted, it's when I'm farming transmogs in older content, but still... ... And I guess I am using Saurfang's arcanite reaper to do it.
He was going to challenge the Alliance to a Mak'gora, hence removing his armor and only bringing his weapon and marking himself in the face those are the rules of Mak'gora.
Alliance cares not about worth when determining rulership. All they care about is who passes through the royal legs to get to this world. Blizzard should exploit the "weak king" theme more often. If Horde gets maniacal leaders, why can't the alliance experience some shafting once in a while?
+A mosca na véia I think that's what they're building up to. Ever notice how Anduin is deadset onn only capturing Sylvanas, unlike everyone else who wants to outrigght destroy the Horde for good? I think he's going to face a situation where his passifist ideology will prevent him from doing what needs to be done for the Alliance like everyone else who are already prepared to do what's needed.
This is something we needed. Perspective from the horde besides Sylvanas. I loved the young newblood troll who represents the Horde who are desperate for a symbol that shows honour still means something in this war, he doesn't want Saurfang to throw himself to the side or give up because that would mean he gives up on everything.. not only himself but also the Horde as a whole. He got sick of it all, His past is filled with regret; namely the draenei slaughter and likely fighting under Garrosh, he thought it was finally over and here he is once more; another event where dozens of innocents are slaugthered and he is partially responsible. But most importantly he is denied his honourable death. He saw no more value in it; he gave up and you get where he is coming from: His son Dranosh died in a 1v1 against the Lich King and his brother Broxigar died fighting Sargeras for crying out loud. But then this young troll shows Saurfang there is still something worth to fight for even if it isn't for his own death anymore but for the future of the Horde and he may perhaps find what he yearns for while trying to do just that. He is becoming a warrior that fights for something he believes rather then a warrior that fight for his own death. Not to mention the Dranosh feels.
I love this..it's perfect. We all need a pal Like Zappy really and when he brings Saurfang out of his despair with those words "live another day" that haunting note of music starts and my eyes fill...Perfect.
He's new, and pretty much only features here. He seems to be a symbol of the common Horde soldier, born into the new age. So, I don't think he has a name!
Gees Blizzard, just make an animated warcraft movie. Not all things need to be live action. This short video is by far better than anything that's come out of hollywood.
With the kind of quality they put out in these short cinematics i imagine it'd be incredibly expensive doing a whole movie. I second your opinion, but I'm sure it's not easy
well as a 3d artist for the past 20 years.. and ive designed video games .. it probably took 20-50 skilled artists to work on this for at least 1-3 years... then you have the voice over artists, and the photoshop texture artists.. the video editting, the storyline.. you have an entire team created just to create this short cinematic. the amount of effort to do this is insane. If i did a video like this by myself, it'd take a lifetime. blizzard has come very far in the past 20 years...even their old cinematics were awesome.. even tho graphics sucked.. they were still awesome.
If by best cinematics, you mean the best graphics.. sure. The writing itself is quite sloppy, and doesn't come close to games like FFXIV, which are known for their story.
King Gilga lol, you should pour your frustration on the actual bad writers like the ones from Dragon Ball Super, but not here. You know why? Because forcing plot to still fit player's steady gameplay while having multiple writers at that simply can't equal perfect storytelling. For instance, there HAS to be some form of hatred between alliance and horde because otherwise PvP between said fractions wouldn't make any sense.
Saurfang has quietly become one of the most in depth characters throughout our time playing this game. From a simple side character in Northrend to being one of the wisest and most amazing orcs in the game. Fantastic story writing.
I just realized that is the shaman in the main cinematic. When saurfang gets back up and carries the flag forward the troll sees him and continues to fight! He needed saurfangs morale since it was his first battle! Well done blizz!
Kellen not only that but the moment Genn knocked out Saurfang in the cinematic, Genn gets zapped by the zappyboi right after. I smell some good bromance with zappy boi and saurfang. LoL
Letgoit2 it works well. Of all the legendary warriors Varok has fought with, it took a young, scared troll to remind him of the true spirit of the horde!!
Zappy Boi is the Troll (red hair) you see lightning bolting just after Sylvanas went Banshee Queen, in the Battle for Azeroth cinematic. The Troll that attacks Anduinn is indeed a different Troll (white hair) and not Zappy Boi.
Please for the love of all that's holy... Make movies like this please. Who cares about the live action, let's see the telling of the WoW universe like this.
strandalx Most games haven't had as much lore fleshed out of them like Warcraft has. Warcraft has so many books and professional writers that it wouldn't be hard for a Director to take all the pieces and put them together. The one thing Blizzard needs to do is get a really good Director like Steven Spielberg, some one like him with creative counter of the movie and unlimited time would make an amazing movie.
The feels started to kick in when Saurfang was holding his son. You can feel the tremendous loss he still feels. The music that plays during that part just intensifies it. 💔
To be fair, some of the more pensive moments between Durotan and Doomhammer were almost this good. Was just the human scenes that looked college production grade terrible, and the lore changes felt a bit unnecessary.
This video was selected by the channel as one of the best Gaming videos on RU-vid and was added to the channel's playlist accordingly. Thanks for sharing.
I wish they could make a movie like this. It's moving, it's well done, and makes far more sense than any live action version. You can't rush the story, or the depth of the characters involved in the history of Azeroth. No live action movie is going to really get it right. I'm in love with this cinematic.
FireStar32005 i wish it too, but it costs 10 times more then a regular movie, and takes 10 times longer to make it. So i think that cinematics are all we gonna get in this frame for now.
Nexius Amen, this is what the horde needs to keep moving forward as a faction despite what can be in the eyes of many a questionable Warchief at the moment.
