I'm from Mississippi but whenever I hear this I picture myself living in some new york housing project standing on the corner with my homeboys on a rainy evening.
A true lost gem from the Golden Era. The number of dope emcees in that era was incredible, it will never come back. I miss that kind of vibes. These guys appeared on Lyricist Lounge vol. 1
It really bothers me that the only audible record of this on the internet is a tape from Stretch and Bobbito. I'd cop this on vinyl or cassette if I could.
Nothing helps sooth the pain in life like Hip Hop. It somehow finds pleasure IN the pain, but like how? Content that covers negative aspects, the real shit shouldn't really do this. I get it, it's in the relatability of the lyrics, we all see similarities in the respective artists stories when referring to our own. In some form or another, throughout all walks of life, that much makes total sense but that should only be comforting to a point and not stimulate beyond that. The rhythmic music, I get it, dopamine hits similar to sexual pleasure but again, it's sustained so it's more than that and no one has put a finger directly on it. It's just so mystical, like a spiritual presence hidden behind it all and oh so soul fulfilling. Hearing tracks like this one gets the mind+heart to explore all sorts of mixed emotions. Why though God, why? Are you behind this or is it just another level of a game being playing on me by Azazel. Either way, good or bad it gets my appraisal but still... please...I gotta know...why?
What you're describing is known as catharsis. Hip hop is very cathartic to those who've struggled and dealt with pain and especially to those who grew up in the inner cities. Another great example of catharsis is when filmmakers in Japan created Godzilla as a response to the atomic bombs being dropped on Japan during WWII. So many Japanese people who've lived through WWII gravitated towards Godzilla and that kind of media because of the emotional significance.
