@@vishwajeetpanwar3271 it's basically excalibur just without nuke slash because Geralt isn't King Arthur. The sword chooses him to help Geralt with his path(mainly the events of Toussaint). The sword is waiting for it's Arthur i believe and i would love to see witcher's version of king arthur myth, celtic, norse and slavic instead of the usual westernized celtic which doesn't add up with myths about Albion/Camelot
@@joshuawilliams4314 a fair point I hadn't considered to be honest. Without the added context you only get from choosing "the flash that cuts", my own thought process was "one of these things is personally related to Ciri, while the other appears to be a random phrase." Now that you've put that thought in my head, I'll probably be a "flash that cuts" player from now on.
I usually took "The Flash that cuts" as A) it is a Witcher tradition from Geralts time, making Ciri one of them, and most importantly B) Ciris steel sword is already called Zireael. She doesnt need 2 swallows.
@@535phobos I feel like the traditional witcher approach to Ciri, like getting drunk together instead of a snowball fight, is what distances Geralt from her. And it's the more personal approach, where Geralt tries to understand her individuality, that wins her over... I'd say that naming the sword "Zirael" instead of putting the witcher factory motto on is part of it...
I chose Swallow on my first playthrough when I thought Ciri had died. I thought Geralt was honoring her by taking up a sword with her name. But now that I know she lives in that scenario, I'll always choose the flash that cuts, because Ciri already has a sword named Swallow - her steel sword. Seems kinda dumb to give her a silver one with the same name.
Honestly when I think about the books I don't think Ciri would like the Zireael inscription too much, because this is the name that people often used when speaking about her destiny, her blood and so on. For example, it was often used in Tir na Lia, when the Aen Elle spoke about her and what she is supposed to do for them. It was something she didn't like, didn't want to be part of and that caused her so much suffering. In the end I think she came to terms with it, but she always called herself witcher and wanted to be like Geralt, wanted to be with the other witchers in Kaer Morhen. For me, it makes more sence to give her the old witchers' motto inscription on the sword, but that's just my interpretation of book Ciri. I think one can argue that W3 Ciri is different than her and feels different about the name 'Zireael'.
I think in retrospect it's fitting. It's an entire lifetime if not multiple lifetimes in a single word. It's an homage to her life and her journey. Her suffering and her triumph.
@@olchum7605 Well, it's also the same name, as one of the classic witcher potions - the one, which heals wounds. It also could have the meaning, that she uses her weapon to heal the world's wounds by taking out what causes harm to it. Also there is the possibility, that i see too much into it...
I fully agree, and while I lack the knowledge of the books entirely I believe it to be common, and certainly not out of the realm of possibility that people will often use a name they are called but don't like as a way to strengthen themselves. Use it as a shield if you will. I could see her perspective on Swallow changing and becoming more positive as she shapes her own destiny as a Witcher. Who knows though, I also agree that game Ciri and book Ciri are definitely different.
You could also see it as a sort of "rebranding" for the name, instead of being associated with her destiny and blood and so on, her name is now written on a true witchers silver sword instead, overwriting it in a sense.
@@octapusxftyeah, but book lore-wise - it’s odd choice (but seems pretty in character for a classic dad who does something that pisses off teen daughter lol)
I remember finishing it for the first time in 2015 and crying like crazy when Geralt told Emhyr that she died. I was like ''i did everything properly how is she dead'' but then when he got that sword and had an option to name it ''Swallow'' i knew that she is alive.
Baggage with the zirael name aside, probably she recognized the inscription instantly so she goes to admiring the sword itself. The motto is not instantly recognizable so curiosity in the reaction
On my first playthrough I genuinely thought that Ciri had perished and was absolutely heartbroken. When I saw the options for the inscriptions I thought I was getting a blade to memorialize her so the choice was obvious. Of course then the bait and switch was revealed and I got to see Ciri's face light up at her new sword so it was all worth it
That may be true, and cannonicaly most likely is, but i still find funny the fact that old guy just gifted 20 years old girl sword with "swallow" inscription 😂😂 I know it fits, i know it makes sense and it has meaning... yet i alwas chuckle at it.
In the books, Zireael is a nickname that she is often referred to by the Aen Elle who are basically interdimensional elves on the brink of extinction. The word itself is inextricably tied to her blood and her destiny, and so she knows what it means by virtue of the word following her. There's another comment on the video that explains why she would probably actually hate this inscription, as she hates people who try to tell her what her destiny is. She has only ever wanted to be a witcher. But I think the naming convention is for fans.
@@TacoJimthe whole books are litteraly, "give birth to a hier", darn even the unicorns, i have no clue what the hell the author smoked but darn, that part felt a bit insane
havent played this game in years, but i remember there being something like "May all the ugly bastards die" option or something in that note. Same quote was also in the books about the meaning of the writing when someone asked Geralt what that means
Ok I was gonna say maybe it was the angle of where the camera is and he's just eyeing up the rest of the sword. But yeah he totally just looks at the camera after saying Ciri will have plenty of time to try out the sword. Almost as if a wink wink Ciri game in the future XD
Interesting. The devs really put a lot if detail in the game. I feel like these differences don't really have any consequences, just slightly different dialogue, yet the devs made both scenerios.
And was after that finalle I just stopped for a couple of minutes in complete awe not knowing what to do with my life from that moment on. This gave me that feeling again
I choose Swallow every time. It just makes the most sense. But it is cool to see how they thought it through that her reaction is different. I love this game!
First time i played through i wasnt sure if she survived or not. I named the sword zirhael in her honor, then discoverd that she lived. Not a bad ending in my opinion.
I'm German so in the game Zirael translates to "Schwalbe", which is just a bird. I'm cracking up rn because I really didn't expect her sword to say "Swallow" in the original😂 what a nice gift
i always called it zireael cos i thought it was kinda like a nickname for her. and the flash that cuts always sounded kinda lame to me but know i learnt that its a witcher phrase so i might change it up if i do another run. although she does seem happier with zireael so i dunno
@@LordButtersI personally i want a prequel witcher story. Like some brand new witcher character from the golden age of witchers. Maybe someone who meets up with a young boy/witcher named Vesemir
I always laughed at the 2 choices the game gives you. The Devs were like "Do you want this sentimental sword to be given the name of its weilder?".... "Or do you want this stupid phrase?" Like the choice was so obvious lol
Maybe look it up on a 3d printing for a model of the sword someone pulled directly from the game files. Or on sword replica sights that sell witcher swords, they sometimes also have ciris witcher sword
either ciri died or she became the empress. taking her to see emyr gets the empress ending (which although ciri would be a good leader for nilfgard, i dont like taking her to emyr cos hes a creepy piece of shit)
U need to do the fu things with ciri, and refuse the money ( if i remembver correctly ) from the emperor, + ofc not give her back to get this ending, or something like that. Basically the same thing for that ending where she dies but u do the fun things like snowball, and break stuff in catacombs
Goddamn official english dubing sounds worse than i remember i have heard better fan dubbing compared to this garbage this game has god tier polish dubing tho
Author of the video: there is a huge difference. People in the comments, yes this is incredible. I looked through it frame by frame, the only difference is the longer title -> longer dialogue -> longer animation, and the parts that match are completely identical. Not a bad clickbait 😮💨
