love the maintenance videos! You don't learn this sort of stuff in flight training, and not all mechanics are willing to spend the extra time to share with curious pilots.

Really interesting video !! I am not a pilot but have always been interested in aviation . My father was a pilot that's where my interest comes from . A funny thing happened a few years ago here in Redcliffe ,Queensland ,there was an open day at Redcliffe Aerodrome and a salesman tried to sell me the Cirrus . I told him I worked at the airport on the ground but he carried on with his sales pitch . He asked me if I understood things luckily had some idea of the things he was talking about thanks to flying with my father . The cirrus is an amazing little aeroplane certainly a long way from my fathers first solo in a Chipmunk T10 back in the early fifties .

Great exhibit of the Cirrus engineering, systems and solid construction. Are starters, alternators and governors inspected as well beyond an exterior visual examination? Just curios as the Cirrus in Nikos Wings had recent costly component failures in flight requiring pilot intervention.

@alankroit 6 лет назад
Hi. I just wondered, during the hundred early, did they check to see what might have caused your concern re the oil while you were on your outback trip?
@StefanDrury
@StefanDrury 6 лет назад
Hey Alan, yes the oil system is inspected as well but we believe the oil issue from the trip was potentially overfilling of the tank, combined with a couple of long distance higher altitude flights, and the Cirrus breathing oil out of the breather tube under the fuselage. It's not uncommon for Cirrus aircraft to do this, and once the oil settled at 9 quarts it remained there for the rest of the trip. So I think had I not filled the oil up at Shark Bay, we wouldn't have had that large spitout of oil on the way from Broome.

Stefan, Flow & MikeB touched on this but i’d Like to see a video on why planes mechanical systems seem so delicate compared to a car or truck. I fully admit I know nothing about aviation but you’d think it could be engineered for. 100 hours seems excessive (again I know nothing). Thanks for the great channel here too

Three-blade props offer a compromise in acceleration, efficiency, lift and speed. A four-blade propeller can boost acceleration, efficiency or lift, but at the cost of a lower top speed

a 100-hour inspection is required for aircraft: That carry any person (other than a crew member) for hire; or. That are provided by any person giving flight instruction for hire. All others get an annual with the same number of items inspected/repaired. For new CIrrus SR22 these inspections range in cost between $2000 to $3000 USD dependent on parts and problems found. The SR22T is higher.
