The C6 marked a stunning return to form from Citroen. The company had slowly been drifting towards convention, their products becoming increasingly similar to sister company Peugeot's. Then this appeared. Sleek, quirky and sporting a shape that could be nothing but Citroen, the C6 was an instant hit, with magazine reviewers at least. The general public were rather more resistant to the idea of a Citroen that could cost almost £40,000 in top specification and sales weren't huge. Nevertheless as a technology showcase and a halo product to lift Citroen's image, the C6 is a winner. Used buyers are now starting to sniff around the C6, attracted by somebody else taking the initial hit of depreciation and a reputation for solid mechanicals.

I owned and loved this very car for the last almost-four years and, unlike my two 2.7s - both Mauritius Blue / Wadibis leather (Wadibis is the same in RK59 WVB, but the paint is pearlescent Abyss Blue) - she never once glitched, beeped (apart from low fuel once) or gave me a moment’s trouble. I sold her to a fellow discerning Citrothusiast, who is delighted with her and her condition, comfort and refinement. Very clean Euro-5 engine; so clean, in fact, that one MoT tester listed an advisory: “emissions to(sic) clean to regester(sic)”… Look up her MoT history! I’m almost wishing… (no, stop. Stop! Move on now!!) My current steed - an XJ Portfolio - is powered by the ‘same’-but-longitudinal Ford ‘Lion’ V6 diesel engine, albeit in 275hp form, and it’s a lovely, lively all-alu-bodied car, with nice tech and an eight speed autobox. It doesn’t have the ride refinement, and the C6 will seriously out-corner and out-handle it; but it has the potential for remapping to 300 (for more economy), which the C6 3.0 - being FWD and coupled to an on-its-limit Aisin-Warner gearbox - cannot withstand, owing to the fact that any additional torque would exceed the box’s limit, placing an unwanted stress factor. The XJ is the same kerbweight, but will return almost 60mpg if I stick to

Works well detuned for low compression, increase the compression on the diesel and you will end up having engine catastrophic failures as we see on LR Discovery 3 and Discovery 4. Is a good engine on lower compressions but is terrible on higher compressions the design faults appears. And much of it has to do with the oil distribution design so if you intend to remap be careful first manage to order a custom reinforced crankshaft recreate your engine on fusion 360 and see if it available to make new holes on the engine block that reach perfectly the middle bearings in order to make new oil entrances to lubricate the middle bearings otherwise you will lose your engine sooner or later.

There is one - a Nova Green example - that’s on the Jalopnik YT channel, and another - I seem to recall it’s a Mauritius Blue*, and was reviewed by Doug DeMuro. I’m not sure that any 3.0HDi derivatives ever made it to the US. Avoid the troublesome 2.7HDi models! The 3.0i (gasoline) model is quiet but lacklustre, with pretty crap performance and very poor torque delivery, and the engine is nowhere near as characterful as a Busso V6, and not as gutsy as the 3.0HDi. The 2.2HDi is “ok”, quite lively as a stick shift, and in Europe (at least) attracts a lower emissions tax. *EDIT: No, it looks to be Ganache…

German Rivals? There are no German rivals, this car sets comfort first and it is not set up for driving like your hair is on fire and you 'll notice, it is a car for the grown up and civilized. Watch Top Gear S08E05 and they will explain that to you. This car is the difference between half baked comfort ideas and a proper all around concept.

Great car! I had GJ59UYO for almost three years. Had to get rid of it as, essentially, it was nearly as expensive as a Range Rover to run and repair. It was electronically complex and there was always a ticking time bomb feeling about the suspension, cabin electrics and sensors which all seemed to cost a lot more than German rivals while not being of the same quality. Might have kept it if there was a good specialist local to me.
