The hydraulics was not introduced in 1961! It was an integral part of the DS from the very beginning in 1955! All was there, the brakes, the steering, the suspension, the gearchange....

The hydropneumatic suspension gives superb roadholding and you can go really fast in all curves and bends! So this driver has got it all wrong! This car has very high active safety, much thanks to the front wheel drive and the hydropneumatic suspension. For instance, it was a very successful rally-car, which proved its roadholding and curve capacity under very tough conditions!

Ik ben me hele leven lang anti Citroen dingen, maar de DS blijft toch echt historisch in elk opzicht :)

I love old Citroens (DS and CX in particular) but hate the fact that French tax laws always made large multi-cylinder engines so unattractive to buyers. The DS and CX would have been so much better with a smooth and lovely sounding straight or V6 engine

Sorry, but this has to do with safety. High performance cars with too much engine power are the ones with less active safety! They are more prone to accidents.

Ce modèle est très rare. Il semble que dans toutes les vidéos techniques sur cette voiture, vous oubliez toujours de dire que c'est la première voiture au monde à avoir été conçue avec des normes de sécurité révolutionnaires.

@@minutepapillon5060 Avant, les voitures étaient conçues pour être très solides, quand il y avait un choc les dégâts sur la voiture étaient faibles mais toute l'énergie dégagée par le choc était absorbée par les passagers. Citroën a conçu la DS de façon à ce qu'elle absorbe l'énergie des chocs en se déformant, la voiture était fortement endommagée mais les passagers avaient moins de blessures. J'espère que mon explication est claire, j'ai l'impression d'avoir fait beaucoup de répétitions.

This is the first "reviewer" who has problems with cornering a DS-model Citroen. The design of the hydropneumatic suspension is intended to provide not just a luxuriant ride, but also flat cornering and high-speed stability. Unlike cars with solid axles and spring-based suspensions, Citroens never wallow. I've driven lots of them and speak not just from my own experience but also that of nearly every Citroen driver on RU-vid. Perhaps this "reviewer" is one of those types who needs to insert negative observations to prove how discriminating and knowledgeable he is.

It is possible to push a DS at a very, very respectable speed on 'B'- roads (secondary, twisty roads) to lose quite quick, modern following cars. I know, because I have done it in my DS 21 Injection quite a number of times over the last 10 years. It is quite difficult to disconcert a DS, perhaps only when you are pushing it into a corner, and the suspension begins to complain, but the inherent stability tends to quiet the 'situation'.
