In this tutorial we go over a couple basic forward-to-backward transitions--the foreward outside 3 turn, and the foreward inside Lion.
**UPDATE** I was wrong, Lions are just 3 turns. Don't let people rename figure skating moves, it just causes confusion--Drew

Nice, I appreciate breaking down the move in essential steps that are required to master first and also details about how you should position both your body and weight during the execution. Most people that make tutorials tend to just show final version with little to none explanation on the most important things. So good job on this.

You guys are really talented, but I feel like this tutorial could be improved a little. There's a lot of extraneous footage, especially on Brock's part, that make me unsure when I'm supposed to be paying attention to what he's doing. And is "checking" skate terminology? Seeing it KIND of explains what it is, but I'm still unsure, it's a bit like "watch me and do what I do". Am I supposed to put my weight towards my front wheels to pivot? I notice his back wheels lift up a bit, is that key? Are there any other points to note during that motion? Good explanation on centering your weight over your skating foot though, and about how the shoulders are what provide the rotation (and how the arms are just used to help that).
@MulaSoldats1
@MulaSoldats1 5 лет назад
zerocontrast -The first minute and a half is introduction, City Blades doesn't really have a ground in sport. Nice to give a little end game. -Check - Like 'Check your self' or stop. Counter rotate your shoulders against your rotating direction to stop . -In Ice skating, we have rockers and when we turn, you go to the ball of the foot and lift the heal. Most inline skates don't have a rocker, and raising to 'toe wheel' is necessary. The raise of the knee should activate this naturally and why I didn't mention it. The knee action and checking arms are more important imo. -Thanks for the comments, we do have a lot of ground to cover and will try to be more pointed.

Hey I love this discussion about this topic going on here! Brock seems to be a pirouette guy... nice unique style you have. However I miss an important thing in both of your skating: when skating backwards, you are not looking back over your shoulder. Sometimes I find it more difficult to learn the head later on than learning it straight when you are still practicing.

Are you going up on your front two wheels at the point of turning on the 3-turn or your middle two wheels? Or just one wheel? On ice skates, when doing 3-turns, much of the blade is lifted off the ice, apart from a small part of the blade under the ball of your foot that remains on the ice, enabling the blade to pivot freely- I’m trying to transition to roller skating and I am struggling to understand how the wheels operate in this manoeuvre without stopping you dead and causing you to trip up! How does the pivot happen with four independent wheels??? Any hints? Do I just need to try it? 😬
@CityBlades
@CityBlades Год назад
Yeah on ice you can use the toe pick to make a little check mark in the ice, on rollerblades it’s waaay more about doing it with your edges and the lift is more… a consequence of the edge transfer… where you will briefly come up on one or two wheels just a little. Second half of the video is a better illustration of that. Rocker & edges.
@ladypenelope99

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been looking for a decent explanation of these skills for ages. I'm English and have never heard of 'Flatland Skating' and Google only references skateboarding. What is Flatland Skating please?
@CityBlades
@CityBlades 5 лет назад
psocretes flatland skating to me is just... stylish movements that don’t require objects. Includes freestyle slalom, some of wizard skating, and our... idk what to call it. To me it’s flow skating, but other people use that term to describe just striding through a city, or striding + stair bashes and jumps... idk, it’s a more ambiguous term than it should be, lol
@psocretes8183
@psocretes8183 5 лет назад
@@CityBlades Thank you for your explanation. I recently viewed a video of a hockey player inline street skating and although he was a solid and competent skater there was no flow and he looked like a pit bull on wheels. For me it's all about the flow and elegance. All the best.

This is so frustrating 😂😂😭 I'm a fairly good figure skater (learning a lutz and axel jump) so learning three turns is a complete thing of the past for me. Naphtali at the time I was convinced the manner in which it was performed was the difference. Since then though I’ve kind of accepted that it was just Wizard skating dudes trying to rename a figure skating move. It’s just an edge-heavy 3 turn, not its own thing
