In US news and current events today, Tamarac Florida City Commissioner Mike Gelin used a public award ceremony for police officers to shame Broward Sheriffs Office cop Joshua Gallardo. Law enforcement official Gallardo was receiving a Deputy of the Month award when Gelin called him out for a false arrest years ago in which Gallardo lied on the police report by saying Gelin was resisting arrest.

Cops have learned they can resign before being fired and then move to another city police force. No rules against hiring a previous cop for resigning.

I was sexually assaulted by a police officer in 2009. I took it to court and he lost his job. Sadly, he had done it 4 times prior to me and the city settled and brushed it under the rug.

I'm not sure the lady's a crook for saying that the work done by police officers is appreciated, and to be safe whilst performing their duties. I am first and foremost for civil/human rights, but I also have friends who are law enforcement officers. Do I get nervous when pulled over by police? Yes, but I always hope that the majority of police officers serve the public, and I'd like to think that (at least some of) the other officers being recognised at the event weren't all corrupt.

@@longhairedphreak Yes, but she made it a point to say all officers as a whole and proceeded to ask that the comment by the commissioner be deleted. It is covering up for one bad officer that gives other officers the green light to follow suit. And I agree, we would like to think that most officers are good, but we cannot say they are. Nor can we say they aren't. But we can say that the one officer lied and got away with it. That officer should be dealt with prior to that Commissioner having to go public about it.

I feel like the line, "You lied in the police report," would only be surprising to people that have never been arrested before. They lie in their "police reports" habitually! When an average citizen lies in court it's perjury. But when a police officer lies in their report, which is an official court document, and often is the main source of information considered by the judge in low level cases, they get away with it every single time. I'm not naïve. All judges aren't that clueless. They know, they just don't care. People don't realize how unideal our justice system is, until they've experienced it.

True. A cop set me up for passing a school bus one time. Afterward my family did a little investigation and documented how there literally were no school busses around when he pulled me over. The bad part is that the lawyer we went to said it would be best if I didn’t fight it and he talked to the da. I’m the end he was able to just get me a fine and an online course and no record but it sucked. He said 90% of the time the judge will take the police officers word. So corrupt.

i'm a WOC & when i was younger asked the police for help as a victim. they refused to allow my parents to drive me to the station, instead putting me in the back of the cop car and laughing while discussing whether to cuff me. they kept me in a small room for 16 hours overnight without my night/day medication to try to make me "confess" that i had lied. i sobbed until i just lost it and was just rocking back and forth by the end. when i begged to go home and promised that i wouldnt press charges they finally let me go. this has affected me in different ways for a long time, as well as my trust in the world. i'm proud that someone spoke up for the many of us who don't have the chance to.
