Being verbally embarrassed for a less than a minute doesn't really compare to the embarrassment of being falsely arrested and having it on your record for life.
Yes, that's true. Everybody blames him for being "unprofessional", but I believe he did the right thing, because an unprofessional cops is much worse than this.
Jovani Sanchez I’m not sure about his personal record. However, I know people who’ve had their charges dropped, but when they get background checks, it shows up, or when they are asked if they’ve been arrested in job interviews, they have to say yes in case the employer finds out through other means.
@Jovani Sanchez I don’t want to speak for him, but I believe he spoke out like that because he didn’t believe a person who grossly misused his power to intimidate someone is deserving of the award he received. So the job stuff is more of an add on to the issue.
oakucme03 not really he was told to step back out of the way and he kept on that’s what got him arrested. You’re told to step back and get out of the way and you keep on. You get arrest. Shows a lot about his personality.
@@r6685 he DID step back - did you see the video? The officer LIED on his report - the video made that clear - and the city commissioner has every right to speak about his own arrest, in which prosecutors declined to pursue charges. Shame and shock for speaking of this false arrest? Stupid... why aren't people shamed and shocked about the cop lying on his report?
Acentrixes he didn’t violate the HIPPA law, lol. That cop nodded to the commissioner when he was calling him out for lying on the police report and falsely arresting him. He didn’t resist at all, he was recording a crime scene to provide evidence, lol.
@@minilex3185 You know, I sick of people like you saying HIPPA laws and so on. This is Florida!!! Florida Recording Law Note: This page covers information specific to Florida. For general information concerning the use of recording devices see the Recording Phone Calls, Conversations, Meetings and Hearings section of this guide. Florida Wiretapping Law Florida's wiretapping law is a "two-party consent" law. Florida makes it a crime to intercept or record a "wire, oral, or electronic communication" in Florida, unless all parties to the communication consent. See Fla. Stat. ch. 934.03. Florida law makes an exception for in-person communications when the parties do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the conversation, such as when they are engaged in conversation in a public place where they might reasonably be overheard. If you are operating in Florida, you may record these kinds of in-person conversations without breaking the law. However, you should always get the consent of all parties before recording any telephone conversation and any in-person that common sense tells you is private. Recording a crime scene is a violation of the victims right.
In this case mike gelin just showed his arrogance, where's the courage? Free loading bourocrat humiliating a working man, you call that courage? I call it cowardice!
@@davidnevett5880 freeloading bureaucrat? Sure, true. Criticizing a workingman? They both work for the government 🤣. They’re equally freeloading, one of them is a criminal though (and it’s not the commissioner).
Police would destroy someone life by wrongfully arresting them. Then go home and laugh and chill with their family like it's all good. Mike did a good job on calling him out. Much respect
The deputy no longer wants to work for the district or no one will believe his report when he makes an arrest. Good riddance. One down and many more to go. Public Power.
Police officers gives a lot of BS unlawful commands. Respect to the commissioner to call out that bad officer in an official forum. I saw an interview with the local police chief, who was crying about this. Maybe the chief should instead have a critical look at his own department.
regstrupdk please tell me, what is an unlawful command? Were the cops investigating a possible crime-yes. Are they allowed to ensure they’re safety when an unknown individual that has nothing to do with the investigation walks up for no reason-yes. Seems lawful to me. You know what, I’ll come to your job and hover over you, and video tape you, and see what happens. Don’t call the cops, you don’t like them. LOL
@@jaythewhizdog3842there is no law saying you are banned from videotaping a crime scene. Infact it's valuable evidence. There's no way he was interfering with the arrest, the video is pretty clear. He stepped back when told to do so. He rightfully asked why other bystanders are allowed to stand so close to the arrest and yet he was getting chased away. So yes there's no basis at all to arrest the commissioner. Secondly that clown lied in his police report in order to portray a narrative that he did nothing wrong. But unfortunately his video told a very different story. In conclusion, that mf is a rouge police officer and he deserves every bit of hate, death threats and wtv he can receive 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 suck it up LOL
You know why all this people are criticizing you because it hasn't happened to them and the Stupid retired police chief said that you embarrassed the deputy he wouldn't be embarrassed if it wasn't true and how about the embarrassment of being arrested. Thanks for doing what you did.
He didn't do anything wrong, his actions was justified and he felt his rights were violated when that cop unlawfully arrested him. Nobody talked about the actions of the cop.
i don't know what happened with the cop, but more visible displays of measured, thoughtful transparency like this can go a long way to changing things, i feel like. because the public support to cover over has no where to hang their hat on, besides give up and support people like this, who speak straightforward & honestly, but kindly
I don't believe he should be reprimanded. Thank you for speaking up for the injustice that happened to you. We need more people like you rep our cities.
Its a shame of disbelief when a cop lies! Its an honor beyond belief when an officer does a great job and actually makes a difference in his community! To those who actually take pride in your jobs- thank you for your great service.
Such a joke. Notice how nobody said he lied about the police officer's conduct; just that he embarrassed him at the meeting. I'd say lying on a police report is 10000000000x worse
Thank you for speaking up for everyone who has been treated poorly by bad officers. It's out in the open now, that's what they are upset about. He was publicly arrested, so why not publicly call out the bad officer in public.
If anything, this man should get an award for standing up for himself and the public. Civility code? Pfft, come on. Get on the freedom of speech train.
The thug to shame too stay their and work go figure. More power to the brother who shows courage and faced his those people who like or dislike what he said.
Good on ya Gelin. You stood up and hit that white man where it hurt, in front of public for all to see. He took away your privacy so it's right your took his away for all to see. Australia supports you Mike...
Thank you for psych-analysis of my personality. Do,you belong to the Scientology movement...? It was clearly racist cause a black man did not follow the ridiculous orders of a white officer. As for dark skinned people. We represent 60-90 present in the legal system. Are more likely to be stopped and questioned because we look like "the suspect". White, people are more likely to be let off earlier from sentencing. Are more likely to get the job and less likely to be harassed by cops. Your insight into racial discrimination seems limited and under developed. Ignorance comes in all colours. But this vid is showing a white cop acting in a way which counters his award he received. He should have it taken off of him and made to try to be a better person if he is going to serve the public.
no need for the race crap..iam white and proud of my heritige and i also dont hold shit back when ppl do wrong would care if the person was any color..the cop was a shithead .
Courageous, huh…. Where exactly to you see courage from Mike Gelin here? He is a Councilman calling out a lowly Sheriff’s Deputy. It’s not like he’s publicly bashing the Mayor or the actual Sheriff. He’s basically punching down. There’s nothing brave about shitting on cops and I’m sure he received a lot more love than hate for publicly humiliating the man. No one gives a shit about police and its actually become the norm to bash them funny enough. Shame on Mike just as much as Joshua as far as I’m concerned. We need to get bad politicians out of office, too. Also, I gave your comment a thumbs down. RU-vid won’t display it, so I figured I would just tell you.
russelljohnson2008 the charges were dropped because the video Gelin took did not give enough evidence to uphold the charge. Basically, the officer arrested Gelin just to give him a ride and an arrest record. It happens all the time. A police officer will fuck with you and tell you they will arrest you. When you ask them for what charge? Their response is “I’ll figure that out later.”
The commissioner isn’t wrong for what he did, definitely handled the situation better than a lot of people would. Bit better than I would have handled because thats definitely NOT what a cop should do, falsifying statements, etc.🙅🏽♂️
.......................................................ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 this is what we need to see. Disgusting that the sheriff supported his lying officer. . Why don't police officers have to be civil. The deputy should be ashamed that the whole world saw him lie. The mayor is PATHETIC. Police officers who falsely arrest an d lie should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY. How can they be trusted an arrest can ruin a man's life. He is now facing the consequences of his lie. Commissioner Gelin is just doing his job and telling the trutht
How about the embarrassment a city commissioner feels being falsely arrested like some common criminal? For a cop to bare false witness should be an automatic termination if not criminal charges.
That’s awesome he called him out that he falsified the report .You should look into old cases of him .. that officer has a lot of skeletons in his closet ..
It makes you wonder who else that officer has unlawfully arrested, and lied on the police report????? That's why the officer quit and moved on,he was exposed and he will do it to someone else again.
He's racist, the Sheriff said move back away from the crime scene in the video. It was an obstruction charge, later dropped by district attorney. Wasn't falsely arrested and the video the commissioner posted reflects that. HIPAA and other stuff stated is irrelevant. Police tell you to disburse and move back that is a lawful order from Police. The guy is showboating, and I would of laughed as the officer too, the Officer didn't put himself up for the award.
Policemen who misuse the power that has been entrusted to them should be condemned by everyone especially other policemen. By defending them and saying they shouldn't be embarrassed in front of the public for lying in police reports is disgraceful. He could have given that man a criminal record based on lies. That is serious misconduct in my view. Until I can be certain that the police will not protect their own colleagues who are in the wrong I have no faith in their sworn statements
Those who berated him for doing so are guilty of the same crimes. They didn’t like someone used their platform to call out corruption. Investigate all of them! Why would you want someone to just be quiet?
Great job Commisioner Gelin! The officer should have been embarrassed and humiliated ONLY if he was falsely accused. His actions were an indication that he greatly approved of him making this false arrest and lying. Thank you Commisioner for taking this stand in a public forum. Your voice is GOLDEN!!!
