Today I'm reviewing another arcade game that was ported to the NES. This one is all about vehicular action and very poorly designed roads.
#NES #CityConnection #RetroGames
City Connection was played on a Retron5 and recorded on a AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus. Music comes from the game soundtrack.

This game holds a special place in my heart. The one memory I have of my agoraphobic mother leaving the house, she bought me this game as the local grocery store was phasing out its NES rentals and selling them off for cheap. This was the only game left. I was 7 and I remember everything about that day and moment. Thanks ma, RIP.

I truly wished and hope that more games become more ubiquitous and available in groceries, drug stores & convenience shops like box of cereals or shampoo so that moms could get them for their kids, now that would be so much valuable because it is a gift 🎁 , an act of caring from the person you love 💖 and not just ordering online for self gratification 🦊

Thank you for the video. I played this game as a kid and thought there was no end to it. Recently I went to a retro game store and looked the game up online and saw there were 12 levels. Thanks to your video I learned those 12 levels are for the arcade. If it weren’t for your video I would have played another 12 hours trying to “beat” a game that has no ending. Ugh! Why didn’t they make an ending?! Lol thanks again. You saved me hours of torment haha

It's one I hadn't really experienced until it popped up in my gaming group's "Game of the Month" - I can't say I had a lot of fun with it, especially on the more cramped screen of the NES, but it certainly has a spark to it. I do recall a friend saying he preferred it over the arcade one, if only for the regions you paint being in blocks (over the arcade being pixel-by-pixel).

I appreciate your ability to weave profound real-life meaning into your reviews. So this is a follow-up to the one in which you urged us to be "isolated warriors" during the pandemic. Now that the crisis is largely over, you're advising us to connect to the city again. That's just what we need to hear - you should become a motivational speaker! I, for one, am going straight to Red Square today to preach loudly about the wonders of this game and its message. And don't worry - I'll be sure to recommend the arcade version!

@@dreamykid I said it was over just in order to make the joke that was the rest of the post. You're right - people are still dying, but not more than they were in April or even long before the whole "pandemic" started. Almost a million people die of pneumonia per year, but now they write "Covid" instead of "pneumonia" on lots of death certificates. Governments had to concoct the Covid scare because otherwise nobody would want to take their 5G vaccine. Russia and China adopted 5G for a military advantage, and America was forced to follow suit. But 5G interferes with lung function, so they want us to take a medicine that will make us immune to 5G, and enable them to transmit at the dangerous 60ghz frequency as much as they want.

@@thewingedavenger1007 That possibility crossed my mind, but I guess I just didn't want any readers to get the wrong idea. I thought matters were worsening, but it's possible I jumped to conclusions based on what I heard on the news and GMA: What You Need to Know. Personally, I haven't felt safe to leave the house because I don't know how to keep myself and others safe (I could already be infected for all I know). Also, I live in the United States, so I don't know if the situation might not be as bad in other countries.

This game was mega-hit in Japan when it came out. All my friends had it. I had it. But it was kind of boring. 1985. I preferred Spartan X and Transformers (Convoy no Nazo) and Getsu Fuuma Den until Super Mario Bros. and Zelda and the like started becoming really popular. I got weird dreams from the game though. I remember them fondly.

I rented this one when I was young and DID NOT know what the hell I was doing. Funny to finally know how to play the game, HA!

It's not obvious at all what you're supposedto be doing.

@@Cannotbetamed1 Would you mind doing a review of 198X on PSN? I'd like to hear your take on the gameplay and storyline composition. Thanks!

I love cheap Chinese handhelds. Typically they are filled with Famicom games. City Connection is a fixture on these. I played the damn thing for an hour, gave up and played Donkey Kong 3. Great review, thanks for including arcade footage. By the way, where did you find the arcade version?

@@Cannotbetamed1 It looked like they converted it graphically to NES well.
