The problem is that a lot of these european flags are almost identical, look at England, Genoa and Milan who use St. George's cross, or the flags of Verona and Sweden, where the only difference is that in the veronese flag the cross is in the center, where in the swedish one it's a bit on the left.

Im from Pocatello (Poke-a-tell-oh) and I'm proud to say we updated our flag via a redesging contest and referendum. Many people are unhappy with the new flag, but we went from a 1 to a solid 6 at least.

Milwaukee’s flag was so bad, the people of Milwaukee designed a new flag they call the “people’s flag of Milwaukee” since it’s not the official, but the one people designed looks really good and there’s now progress to get the people’s flag accepted as the official.

8:19 Wilmingtons flag looks like the Swedish flag + a seal because Wilmington as well as other nearby settlements in Delaware and the surrounding states used to be Swedish. The colony was called New Sweden and it was taken over by the dutch and before the english took it and then finally America. Also: the Christina River that flows through Wilmington was named after one of Swedens previous queens; Christina.

(10:15) I agree; the most popular dimension of flags is the 2:3 ratio (2 units tall, 3 units wide, it is 50% wider than it's tall). Most national flags have this aspect ratio; Japan, South Korea, Russia, France, South Africa, Chile, they are all over the place. There are still a lot of flags that are not this aspect ratio: USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, North Korea, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and so much more. However, all these non-2:3 flags have not agreed on a uniformed ratio. The 2:3 is the one that people all over the world at least has agreed upon. 1:2 is probably the next common, but it is a huge step away from the popularity of 2:3.

My town had a flag contest, our city colors are white, green, and black. I made a few flag designs and submitted them all. All of my flags that relate back to my state and nature lost to a green background with a giant “Y” (my town is named Yorktown)
