Make sure you're setting up your null correctly. Things usually shift because the "Z" position isn't correct. If your layer moves or slides around the 3d scene try using the target and selecting another position. Element 3D is good but not perfect, so if you get some slight movement still you can always keyframe the position, move foward 10 frames or so, reposition and keyframe again (and so on) to correct any sliding :)

Generating a 2D position in 3D space within element 3D is good, but its far from perfect. You might find your object/layer is still shifting slightly. To combat this i usually just add a few simple position keyframes on my object/layer to correct any shifting.
