I don't live there but I was hoping to hear something like, rules about leaving dogs outside on a chain for most of their life being banned. Or increasing penalties for animal abuse and neglect. If you can't treat an animal well....don't have one.
Using a chain link tie out is a somewhat misundestood practice. Some breeds require such measures to protect their dogs from being stolen and to prevent the dog from breaking loose while the owner is not present. Lot's of propaganda especially surrounding chain tieouts of American pitbull terriers which are strong enough to break standard tieouts.
@@williamryan9195 BS. If you have a pet cat or dog they need to be inside and part of the family. You don't chain anything to make it easy on yourself.
@@j.y.3604 They still sell tieouts at most good farm and pet supply houses and they are safe and effective and LEGAL in the United States and provide safety and restraint. They are used by professional breeders and handlers.
@@williamryan9195 If your dog is on a tie out for a couple of hours, per day fine. If your dog is on a tie out for 8 or more hours every day. That is cruelty. You would not accept that as a security solution for any member of your family, why? It's inhumane. We recognize the health and emotional damage this would cause. Dogs don't have any special characteristic that makes it ok for them to be restrained in a small area like that for extended periods of time.
I remember the first time I went to San Luis Obispo in 1975....Police on horseback and in dunebuggies...(looked happy to be there).....very laid back......a very nice place for a young Wisconsin girl to experience California when it ACTUALLY was California
@@pinchebruha405fine, then update the info if ownership changes. Not yearly if it doesn’t. Owning an animal it’s whole life, yet having to update yearly is about fee’s, not ownership records.
All of our cats were rescue animals and were microchipped and neutered before we took them home. We live in SLO county, and these services were in place and included in the price from shelter when we got them years ago.
We had to get the low cost neuter for a young pup we rescued. It cost about 10k in vet bills and he ended up with pneumonia the day we brought him home.
Hopefully they have good records at the City, because when fifteen years goes by and your pet has passed away they will still charge for the tags and if you have moved you never get the notices. They should have an online website that you can update if you move or your pet passes. In my case they just put the arrears on my credit report and I had to jump through hoops to get it resolved. You never think about your dog tags when you have to put your pet down. You are too emotional.
Well who is going to watch out for abused and neglected pets if they don't track this. You should be glad they have checks and balances and if you have nothing to hide then go talk to them if your pet has passed.
A tag or collar on your pet gets them home faster than any chip. That is if they escape. I had a homeless person walk into my yard they the back gate once while i was out working in the yard, so i had taken the luck of the gate to access the trash in the alley, well two of my dog got out, and a neighbor who was driving saw them, had them jump in their car, and immediately called the number on the tag. I got them back within 10 minutes.
Exactly. This new law is not about animals. It's about oppression and it's about getting us used to having micro chips being put in bodies to keep everybody nice and safe. This is to get people used to the GOVERNMENT tracking them. It is just one more chip off our freedoms. Once we lose those freedoms, we don't get them back. We know this is not about animals because we had things that have always worked, but intentional underfunding has occurred so that we will allow the government to overstep their bounds, and to come in as the hero with this new wonderful solution to keep us all nice amd safe. But we were all safe before they started defunding these things. We can increase funding to animal control services and we can license animals. This is just way too much government overreach. This is not OK. Everybody should be screaming about this.
Prohibiting the sales of Animals in stores would help greatly to reduce the problem. Cracking down on puppy mills in backyards should be against the law. Want a Dog, a Cat, etc? Go and adopt one in the shelter, or in the adoption center.
Way to raise money is To tell pet owner to register their pet .it all about fund a general fund 🤑🤑🤑🤑 $50 for dog 45 for cat . Registration fee per yearly.
Spay/neuter laws are fine, but unless the city has a low cost clinic, many people will either ignore the law or give up their animal to an already over crowed shelter system. I know how much vets charge for spays and neuters and many people cannot afford it.
Let me tell you how it will be There's one for you, nineteen for me Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman Should five per cent appear too small Be thankful I don't take it all Cos I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman If you drive a car, I'll tax the street If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat If you get too cold I'll tax the heat If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet
One of many reasons why I haven't lived in a city in 34 years is the intrusion of government in our private lives. There's some cities in which policemen go door to door seeing if anyone has more than four pets. As if they haven't got anything better to do. I'm lucky to live in a non communist state, away from cities, no zoning, no intrusions, no tyrannical HOAs, just live and let live.
This is an infringement on peoples' rights. They cannot justify an animal being required to be microchipped. This is simply one more way for our government to increase and enable tyranny over its citizens by being able to track any owners who don't want to be tracked when they take their animal out. It is making the population used to the idea of installing chips into bodies that can then be tracked and tracked down. Wake up people!
Very important PSA municipal codes are not law nor are they lawful you are not obligated to follow any of those codes... Nor are you obligated to register your animal... If they ask you what your animals name is you are not obligated to answer them nor are you obligated to sign any tickets that they try to give you.... Do not play into their game period ‼️
This is just one more move toward government tyranny. I can't believe that people don't recognize this and are eager to throw away the rights that they won't get back again.
What is the problem with getting your dog chipped and registered unless you want to abuse it of leave it behind? And yes, these rules should be checked aka EVERYONE who goes to a vet needs to have a chipped and registered dog. And some random controls would be great because you need to catch the irresponsible pet owners which don’t care for rules.
@@adamsilberman9377 registration really helps when your dog or cat get lost. It also helps finding idiots who leave their pet behind. My dogs are from a rescue and had been chipped and registered from day one. When I got my first dog it wasn’t even mandatory and I still got it registered. I am a European and it is mandatory when you move around Europe so that the dog can be identified and you can proof that it is vaxxed etc. The most important part is that it discourages people from leaving their dog behind. If you can’t care for it any longer at least have the balls to drop it off at a rescue.
Chip, Chip, Chip away at your freedoms and money. Has nothing to do with improving the lives of animals. Is the city going to provide low cost spay and neuter programs? All cities should provide more help to make lives better for all beings. The new laws stated here do nothing for the animals or citizens.
You want the animal but don't want to pay the costs for neutering? Who will pay for all the feral cats and the rescues? Neutering or spraying outdoor cats makes total sense! aka you only care about your cat and don't give a dam about the suffering of all these feral cats created by outdoor cats?
This is an about animals. This is about getting you used to having chips, pulling bodies and having the government being able to track you when you move about with your pets.
Maybe the reporter can do a follow-up story and ask the city how much these mandatory services will cost and how much money the city will bring into its coffers….
My first dog had a chip which fell out when she was still a puppy...we decided to have a wearable ID instead. I am on my third dog and the second and the third did not have chips....we are responsible owners and safe guard our pets at all times. They run free in a fenced area and never alone because where I live there is a lot of wildlife which could easily get into our space...always on leash as well. The love of a dog is powerful❤
Enforcing microchips on animals is one step closer to them demanding you get chipped. But really, if your pet is microchipped they have all they need! They’ll have all the owners information. They can track you by your pet. It seems very unconstitutional. 1st amendment violation perhaps? If your pet is an inside pet, why would they need it chipped?
It is about time. If you see something you need to call 911 and have police do a welfare check. Animals on leashes, in heat, no shelter, no food no water, neglect, abuse etc. Call it in.
We already do this. We don't need this microchip law. It doesn't add anything to this. All this does is allow the government to track you if you don't want to be tracked every time you step out of your house with your animal. Don't throw your rights away so quickly. You won't get them back.
@@ddaattrroonn hey if there was a municipal code that says that you have to register your sofa couch in your house I bet you would be the first one to spring up and do it enjoy your slavery system 🤖 statist

Why not? If your pet goes missing they immediately know who the owner is. If a dog bites someone they can find the owner. My dogs had been chipped and registered even before it was mandatory.
@@svenweihusen57 I agree with you with the first part but everything else you said after the first I don't agree with you because it should not be regulated like that... It should not be a requirement that people have to follow whatsoever it should be up to their decision to do what they wilt
@@svenweihusen57 I have two of my dogs chipped just for the fact that if they got out of the backyard and they ran away and were loose and somehow went to an animal shelter that I would be able to be contacted which happened a couple years ago to me.... But there's a lot that goes into that especially if you change numbers frequently you have to keep updating the information thank God for myself I've always had the same number for over 13 years but that is not the case with anybody else and some people do not have the time to do that in their 24-hour period of each day
@@iiiKingLongSwipeiii Who is paying for abandoned pets at the rescue not mentioning the suffering of these animals? How will you find these irresponsible owners? It helps law abiding owners when the dog or cat got lost and it puts a stop on irresponsible owners. A win:win for responsible owners. The question is: whom are you protecting by rejecting these laws? Why do you have to register and insure your car and have a drivers licence? The reasoning is quite similar.
Keeping your registration up to date is their way of taking your money. Pet responsibility has nothing to do with it. It is all money driven by the local government. Registering a dog is absolutely stupid. There is no logical explanation for it. Just money.
Well I would agree with doing these things but not if it is expensive. I have 2 male indoor/backporch area cats that I can’t afford to get shots or get them fixed since my husband lost his job of 30 years last year. If things weren’t so expensive then I would agree to these things happily.
Kids don't need pets if the parents don't go over the rules before you get a pet. They should be inside part of the family, plenty of food, water and love. Kids are entitled to pets unless you have gone over the responsibilities of having a pet period. Oh. poor kids. What about the poor pets.
If you can’t pay for a onetime chipping and registration you can’t afford the pet in the first place. If you don’t buy a pet due to these rules one less dog or cat set free because an irresponsible owner doesn’t want pay for it any longer.
Owning a pet can be a beautiful experience , Jumping through government bullshit hoops For greed just total greed is another nail in the coffin For California . Who wants to live here ? Illegal immigrants that who ... Good luck collecting those fees .
IF they're mandate the microchipping of cats and dogs, then they should be responsible for the cost(s) incurred... just for clarity, ALL my dogs are or have been "chipped", but it was MY choice to do so...
Spaying and neutering have been shown through recent studies to have serious long term health and quality of life implications for the animals that get the procedures, so that veterinarian was either ignorant of the facts or lying so they can keep doing this cruel procedure. People who actually care for their pets, and not just for their own convenience, would never do this cruel procedure to them.
Just keep in mind about having strays. The less we have, the more chances on putting your pet-babies and children on the menu🍴as a free meal for wildlife ❤..
I think they are opposed to being forced to pay for a microchip and registration they don’t feel they need. My cats are indoor only and are never allowed outside so why should I be forced to microchip them if I don’t want to?
When I last looked into it years ago you not only needed to get the microchip but had to pay a yearly registration fee to one or more private companies for it to be any good. Each company had their own database so when a microchip was detected it had to checked against multiple companies to see if it was currently registered. Seems to me if they were serious about microchipping there would be one national database for the entire country and registration would be free for everyone for the lifetime of the pet with a minimal fee to have the microchip implanted. I have no problem with microchips but the whole way they are regularly registered with private companies is a racket.
Microchips benefit pets. Owners who are hesitant about microchipping, for bizarre reasons and paranoias, are not mentally stable enough to adopt pets, and should not be allowed to do so.
Exactly. I live in a suburb of a large city. We still have coyotes, skunks, hawks, other cats and lots of cars. My two cats were born in my backyard. They have been indoors since I caught them. Plus, the two dogs next door like to swim in my pool! Happy Mewsday!
In my family going back 60+ years, all but one of our cats have been indoor/outdoor cats [that one was an adopted de-clawed cat which had to stay inside for its own safety.] It's true that in some neighborhoods it is necessary to keep cats inside at all times for their safety. But we never had any problems with cats wandering off and not coming back, or being stolen, etc. They were all spayed or neutered.
Please make this mandatory nationally!!! Too many animals end up in shelters sometimes that don't belong in the jurisdiction where they live so the owners have no way of finding. If the animal gets scanned, they have a high possibility of getting home!!!
