If I'd gotten that letter in the mail, I'd think it was a scam and ignored it or tried to report it somehow. A landlord will house you for payment, the government will not. What would they do to the tenant if the tenant didn't comply anyway? It's not like there's a judgment for a garnishment from their bank account or income so that law has no teeth. I don't even know how a law like that can be legal. That'd be like saying I'm responsible for back taxes at the McDonald's down the street because I ate there before.
Hi Mr Kris. For any language, there is a dictionary. When it comes to laws and juridic language, I use the Black Law Dictionary that we can download for free. 💡 When it comes to taxe, I just don't want to owe anything above amount due and as soon that I get any bill, I set an automatic payment from the bank to make sure that I won't pay any late fee ‼️
Landlords usually are able to still collect rent once they stop paying the taxes and mortgage but if the pressure is transferred to the tenant the tenant then withhold rent and or sue the landlord.
So if i understood this correctly they aren't personally comimg after your tenant, but instead they are notifying the tenant that they are attempting to garnish the rent; divert payment to the treasurer instead of to the landlord. They are beast! Well, I would imagine it caught your tenant off guard either thinking was this a fraudulent attempt to be scammed, but nevertheless your tenant was smart, ethical, and committed by bringing this to your attention.
