Civ 5 AI Only Timelapse: Legend of Two Corridors

Corridors connecting the two isolated valleys can become either a springboard for a massive offensive or the last line of defense, in any case, their strategic importance cannot be overstated. In this battle, in the chaos of internecine conflicts, leaders may not notice the approach of true catastrophe, but even unification in the face of the main enemy does not always turn out to be the best solution, because with such strategy too much depends on trust or even blind faith. Only the correct allocation of priorities can help to succeed in this race of arms, tactics, and survival itself.

That comeback! I am stunned! After Attila went to war with Poland I was certain that Mongolia was going to win. There was no way that they could come back. They were fighting Mongolia with Gatlin Guns when Mongolia had anti-aircraft, artillery, Great War planes and infantry. I would have bet a decent part of my savings that it was no contest for Mongolia to win. Amazing battle, one of my favorites!

Mongolia simply didn't capitalize on Poland's fall fast enough, peacing them out when they still had Lodz and allowing Attila to strengthen his position ensured a prolonged slog fest

Nice. Wasn't expecting that ending! Some interesting things of note: 0:28 - Zulus engaging in an exodus to flee the capital to the city of Umgungundlovu while the Mongols sacked and annexed Ulundi. The same happened to the Danish at 1:37, where they managed to survive another 40 turns 0:40 - Germany and Morocco leaving the Ottomans to fall by the Mongolian sword, then banding together to make a valiant stand against the Mongolians, delaying their expansion by a considerable amount (turns 95-130 Genghis did nothing to expand because of the war with the Germans and Moroccans) 1:25 - Germany and Morocco try to take advantage of the low amount of border units to seize Istanbul, but are overwhelmed by Mongolia in round 2. With no more threats to the core cities (at least until artillery), Genghis is free to pursue his expansionist agenda in the center strip, overwhelming individual cities and civilizations forced out of their capitals (Greece, Zulus, Denmark) 2:44 - Atilla, after breaking his alliance with Poland, strikes at the unprotected core of the Polish Empire, severing the head of the snake so to speak, and mopping up the empire from the North while the Mongols starved out the main Polish army in the South, peacing them out at Lodz. Stuff about Lodz, arguably the turning point of the campaign. 3:10 - Without much in the way of military, the last Polish stronghold, Lodz, is easily swept into the emerging Hunnic power. The Huns and the Mongols now have a direct land-border with each other. 3:17 - The brutal Battle of Lodz is one of the most crucial battles in the entire campaign; it had the same effect that the battle of Vienna had on the Ottoman advance into Europe - it checked the momentum of a previously thought unstoppable force in battle, and marked the beginning of the end of the empire. 3:40 - Battle of Lodz 2: Electric Boogaloo. Similar to the German/Moroccan wars, Genghis actually wins this time 4:30 - Lodz is taken, marking the first time a Mongolian city was successfully invaded and annexed by a foreign army 4:20 - The ability to attack across the central mountains becomes realized by Atilla's parachute droppers. Sadly, neither side sent an invasion force across here (across from Mongolian harassment with helicopters). I really want to see the AI just storm the enemy with parachute droppers, but it seems like that won't happen. 5:00 - The final decisive battle of the campaign; the giant death robots and more advanced infantry of Atilla would prove to be decisive in this confrontation. The hilly bottom bit that connected the two cores really helped make this game much more dynamic and less Genghis stomp! The Mongolian advance was slowed so much by a German/Moroccan coalition and by the hilly terrain that Poland was able to become dominant enough to challenge Mongolia, and the hilly terrain forced the Polish/Mongolian wars to progress at a snail's pace, with cities holding out at 0 health for upwards of 10-20 turns. Even though the Polish were outmatched and outnumbered, they still managed to hold on with an iron grip onto their frontier cities because of the terrain that reduced unit movement to 1 tile a turn, and the strategic placement of Lodz proved to be absolutely essential in the defense of the heartland! I also especially loved Atilla - he played tactfully to his advantages and weaknesses. After failing to get the Great Wall to secure his land from surrounding powers, Atilla allies himself with the emerging Polish Power and mops up nearby competition while Poland cleans the rest, biding his time and aiding in wars to secure their favor. After some point, Atilla builds up his army to a monstrous size that's on par with Genghis's army, and pulls ahead in research remarkably quickly after taking the northern cores. Well done Atilla! Really, good video! I enjoyed it, and the rocky terrain led to a really surprising and dynamic campaign!

After playing it rather safe, the Huns decide at the 2:45 mark that it's now or never to rise up. They believe they are the only ones who are capable enough to stop the Mongol Terror. They throw off their oppressive Polish overlords, who are stretched thin by their failed war with Mongolia, and Poland succumbs to the Huns in a few short decades. But many think it's too late to stop the legendary Genghis Khan. At 4:11, all hope seems lost. Yet, like many times in our timeline, the Mongols stop, thinking they've won. Whether through corrupt leadership, overconfidence, an unhappy populace, or all three, Mongolia stagnates scientifically and economically. Meanwhile, the Huns, seeing an opportunity, and the potential of uranium in the form of a giant mech-suit, gather their strength, and hope beyond hope, that they can launch the greatest comeback of all time. To the Huns surprise and delight, the underfed, ill-prepared Mongol soldiers are no match for the Huns technological and numerical superiority. In a conquest not seen since Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar, the Huns take over the Mongol Empire and declare themselves sole global hegemon. A new era of peace, stability, and innovation begins.

are you sure that the huns weren't played by a human? that was really something else as the age-old 4x adage says: start tall, end wide
@TheCringeOfTheEasernJeweledSea
I think the reason why the Huns won was because they were able to do a "300" like last stand in a narrow path in front of Wroklaw and Krakow while the Mongols lead their army into that narrow path trashing their forces and dwindling their numbers until the Huns was able to regain their own numbers and deliver a decisive blow. (Sorry for bad english)

I thibk there were two things that allowed the Huns to win: 1. When Attila blitzed the Poles, they continued to fight against the Mongolians, preventing them from gaining access to the Eastern cooridor via Lotz. 2. Aircraft. I think this whole game came down to aircraft. The Poles barely had enough to hold out against Genghis before Attila killed them off and Genghis nearly took out Attila about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way through the video. After the peace treaty, Attila managed to build up his airforce and in turn didn't need ground unit supremacy. Overall, I thought it was an amazing game. I thought it was hopeless, but everytime someone rose up to challenge him I was on the edge of my seat hoping against hope. Great game!

Gotta love Attila's strategy! As soon as paratroops are available, he immediately drops small units of them across the ridge into main base of the Mongos, forcing them to retreat a large amount of forces to deal with paratroops, while the Huns regain position in the frontline. He did it probably 5-6 times until GDR comes out and Mongolians finally collapsed. Brilliantly played!

well, i already thought that it was stupid for poland to leave attila there then focusing all his army to attack mongolia then, after poland got taken over by the huns, and somehow huns are able to stop the mongol invasion, i somewhat feel that huns are going to win, since huns' UA (free courthouse) is way more useful than mongol's (bonus attack against city state, since no city state exist there)

Mongols lost their momentum, they don't have any bonuses that could stimulate their economy in peace time, so they need to carry their victories as far as possible as fast as possible. The Huns were able to stall them so long they lost the ability to fund a sufficient army, and it was just a matter of mopping up.

After falling behind early game, Atilla did almost everything right at every stage of the game. Every time I was like "he should take this opportunity," almost instantly he took it. He pushed Poland while Poland's forces were completely distracted with the Mongols and he held onto Lodz as long as he could, then retook it as soon as he could when he lost it (holding onto Lodz as long as he could was absolutely essential). Excellent play by Atilla, he deserved that win.

Mongolia had the momentum to press into the second room but didn't. They had a medium army with almost full complement left after taking Lodz and sat on it instead of pressing their advantage and gave the huns long enough to rebuild and once it swung back to their momentum they pressed HARD. Mongolia should have won but played far to cautious right when aggression was heavily needed. To be honest i was expecting them to both go out way earlier when they lost their unique's advantage especially attila not even using the battering ram once for super early land grabbing.

I think for this map the loser will always be the one who controls the bottom of the map - too many low yield cities giving penalties. It meant the mongols had to rebuild all the way back home then cross the whole map to reinforce while the Huns only had to go like 5 tiles (4:30 you see a horde at Berlin then cross the map). Even so damn that was fun to watch
