What a fascinating story. Love your house and the rich history! My great great grand father passed on Civil War stories to my grand mother who passed them on to me. I found him in the records. 4th NC Regiment. Caswell Jones. His brother was killed at the battle of Cold Harbor. Azariah Jones 17th NC Regiment
That was a great story and looking at that old wallet made me sad. There's also a lot of history in that house. I could sit and listen to you all day long.
I love coming back to this video from time to time. Would love a part 2 if there's anything else you can tell us and/or show us! You are very blessed to live in such a beautiful house, full of history!
I am a history lover and this old house tour was right up my alley. Your home is lovely, and so nicely decorated and well kept. You said 5th generation, and that is incredible. For 5 generations, that it still looks so good and so well organized (more organized than mine!). Thank you for the tour and story.
Thank you for sharing John. So much history within your family and your house. Well kept after all these years. As you were opening the wallet and your hands shaking I was thinking a spirit was going to grab it and tell you "that's enough!". Family closeness is what what we're losing today. An encyclopedia of stories. Thank you again! 👏
I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! My grandfather used to tell my brothers and myself ghost stories. You have a remarkable collection. Thank you so much for sharing 😊
Wow!.. Living in your own family museum!!.. Its AMAZING!!.. Thank you so much for the awesome story and the tour of your home.. oh.. and I love your handsome four-legged Docent Max!.. It's hard to find good help these days....and I bet he works cheap!
John Hartley your generation and family and you are great patriots. I always enjoy your videos you have a nice warm voice that I can listen to all day LOL. about that stamp I will definitely have that look at. I Am a big silver coin collector. I love your collections
The home is magnificent and the furniture pieces your Dad made are beautiful and priceless. What a lucky man you are to have such beauty and history around you everyday. I also enjoyed the Ghost story . Have you ever seen her ? Please tell us if you do !!!!
Mr. Hartley, your house harbors the most extraordinary and fantastic museum, lost in time, that I have ever see in my life. I enjoyed every minute of the clip.
Thank You for sharing your beautiful home and story. I laughed when you said "Uncle Robert and Uncle George" For a moment there you had me. Cheers! from London UK.
That's an awesome story! thanks for giving us a tour of your beautiful house. I'm certain the spirits that might linger there really appreciate you taking care of it. It's amazing how well built houses were so long ago. It's nice to see you held onto your rich family history. It's sad that most people don't really know their own family history these days.
Wonderful story! But, omg...what a *beautiful* home! I really enjoyed this video, hearing a ghost story with a great ending and you sharing your home with us. It's fascinating. I love your rich heritage. God Bless!
I LOVE your home, I LOVE all of the memorabilia and antiques, I LOVE the dog, I LOVED the tour, I LOVED joke, but I LOVED the story teller and the sad love story about the fallen soldier and his betrothed. the ghost story itself was ok. I’m so glad I viewed the video.
How wonderful...thank you for allowing me to share in your wonderful home and family rememberances..I have been in the antique business and collecting most of my life..I have a great collection myself and it is a lifetime live. However, you have my most fantastic dream come true...to live in a house from long ago ..where your relatives lived and died...to be surrounded by their history and belongings. I can only imagine how lovely that would be. Thank you ,thank you for taking the time to share it all..and adding your fine story telling narrative for us(me) to enjoy ♥️♥️♥️♥️

sir you have one of the most beautiful and special homes i have ever seen. i really am the only one in my family who cares about our history and its really sad that so much has been lost and tossed! luckily my 24 year old has the same love of history as i do.
Wow thanks for sharing this story. What a beautiful home. And what a beautiful love for family you have. I turn the TV and everything off and sit down so I can listen to this. You're a very good storyteller especially when it's true huh? Very sad but cool story thanks again
This has to be one of the greatest videos I've ever seen! I love everything about it! You live in my wife's and my dream house! I would love it if you'd make more videos on your family's history, outside your house, and if you have a metal detector, I bet you'd find some awesome things around your area! Thank you so much for telling me to check out this video. Saved to my favorites!
This is one of the best videos I've seen, John. Wow! You live in a truly beautiful house and the family history you have is just jaw dropping. That was a wonderful story, too! Thanks so much for sharing this video and your time. I really enjoy your RU-vid Channel.
Well thank you Keystone. I am very lucky to have such heritage and to have inherited the family home. Don't tell anyone but one of my maternal G G Grandfather was from Lancaster County, PA and enlisted in the 1st Pennsylvania Infantry in 1861 when President Lincoln first called for troops. He went from a Private to a Major General retiring in 1907. He was the longest serving active duty soldier to take up arms in the Civil War when he retired. He was William Spencer McCaskey. So I am a Yankee as well as a Confederate. Thanks for watching.
Watching your videos, I find we have so much in common. I am, of course, from the great Keystone State of Pennsylvania and it's exciting to hear you have a connection to the state, as well! I love the Revolutionary War and Civil War history in PA. My maternal GGG Grandfather, Cyrus Michael ,also served for the Union. You make me realize I need to learn a lot more of my own family's genealogy!
You're an AMERICAN, Mr. Hartley! As ALL your brave ancestors were! I proudly and lovingly embrace my fellow Americans, even if there was that "unfortunate" war that came between us! Bless you!
What a rich history surrounds you. My great great great grandpa wrote a book of our genealogies- including who fought which battles and on what side. I feel like I can never hear enough about the civil war! We also had Revolutionary War items. Thank you so much for sharing!
Wonderful story, many people would love to have pieces history such as what you have. Your home brings us back in time alone, great video! Thank you for sharing.
My Dear Sir: I thoroughly enjoyed your video, and this magnificent, cultural home is a real treat for me. That these treasures were entrusted to such a historically responsible family is a boon to all of us that love our country and its rich Americana! GOD bless YOU, my dear friend!💚🌵💚 🇺🇸
I hope you keep your location private because there are plenty of people that would love to steal those antiques. You should heat the historical parts of that house because the cold and dampness could ruin those antiques and documents. Keep it at least at 50 degrees. Few people have any respect for their ancestry any more. It's great to have all that family history in one place.
@@fuzzamajumula , Maxwell just lets me know that something is going on. Then any intruder has to get past me. And I am highly trained and heavily armed.
i'm 66 now. my grandmother came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon. She, in turn, was raised by her grandfather. I had many discussions with my grandmother in around 1967 to '69. She told me at length stories her grandfather had told her--he and his brother had been Texas Rangers who fought the Comanches before the Civil War and fought for the Confederacy out of Texas. One story she told me was about a battle they fought with the Comanches in which a white woman captive and her two little boys were recaptured. The woman could not remember her white name and that night, around a campfire, they read to her a long, long, long list of name of possible captives. when they got to her name she bolted upright from being seated and said, "That's me!" So, decades later I watched a film about the making of the movie "The Searchers" and they said it was originally based on a real incident which they recounted. i had the unreal experience of recognizing the incident from stories about it handed down by my family members who were there. It turned out the lady's name was Cynthia Ann Parker and one of the little boys became a famous Comanche chief named Quannah Parker. my grandma' added another detail--they took the woman and the two little boys to a hotel room and the boys were terrified of the mirror--which they'd never seen before--and hid behind the bed in the room and peaked at it. details you won't find anywhere. great house and family heritage you have, sir, i found it fascinating.
Hi John WOW what a great house! My great, great grandmother maiden name was Lillian Lee! I have revolutionary volunteer papers from a relative named John G.Lee my great Aunt told us we are related to Robert E.Lee! So that is exciting! My Dad has John Lee's Sord and Musket!
If anybody told this man to sell those items for money youre stupid this man has so much history and momentos in his house so many generations in one room wow
Nice house. When you showed some of the loose banknotes, have you ever thought of scanning both sides, and displaying them in a wall display like yours? Then make the scanned copies available to purchase?
My great great great great grandfather, Staff Sergeant Robert Byers Sr. fought for the Union Army during the American Civil War and had all kinds of Civil War stuff. When he built the house that I am currently living in (we live in Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania. Right smack dab in the middle of the state), he kept that stuff in the basement. My wife, Lelia, who is sensitive to the paranormal, is terrified of our basement. We have all kinds of crazy shit down there. We have enough muskets, carbines, and rifles to supply a small company. Most of them work. Along with instruments, old cleaning supplies, and a mess kit. Most work, and I use his 1861 US Springfield as my main utility rifle, just like Papa Robert used to (according to my grandfather who knew him). I use it for hunting, and I've shot an intruder or two with it. Lelia has had dreams of Papa Robert watching over us at night. I've taken down deer, boar, goats, and a few bears with it. Just like Papa Robert used to. Papa Robert used to hang out with his buddies, who were also Civil War veterans, and they'd drink and sing in the basement. Lelia SWEARS she hears a group of old men singing Civil War songs of the North in the basement. The first time, she went to join the group, but saw nobody down there. She ran up the stairs, just freaking the fuck out! When we went to Antietam as teenagers, we were walking through the battlefield, and she started to cry. I turned around, and she was standing there bawling her eyes out, frozen in place. She said she was scared, but she didn't know what she was scared of. We haven't been back since.
Wow! What a story and intriguing and rich history behind that house. So awesome. It is very well kept and beautiful inside. That 3 volume law set..Is that original? Amazing!!
Oh wow. You are surrounded by family history and that is so fantastic. Loved the story. Sad but after the wallet was found, amazing. Has she come back since you have lived in the house? Thank you for posting this!
Neither as a child when my Grandparents lived here or ever since have I ever seen anything unusual here. Bur I've only live here for 6 years since retiring. So I guess i have to wait 7 more years. ;-). Thanks for watching.
u live in a museum lol very cool historic family pieces. im not sure if i could live in a haunted house ur a brave man .loved the story and house tour mate thanks
I believe the ghost story, there's several evps in the video, including one that says 'Papa Vinny'. Also, at 5:29 bottom center is an anomaly. I thought it was the dog's tail at first but it isn't. The whitest section of the piano bench gets bright right before it appears. Then at 5:30 a male voice says, 'I'll bring her back then'
There's so much history in your old house. To me finding a lock of hair from the Civil War is scary. Is your Great Great Grandfather's sword an Infantry Officer's sword or a Cavalry saber?
