Fun fact: The civilian isn't actually moving in this map, the animation crew is moving the map under him in various directions to make it look like he's moving.
In all seriousness, Source originally had a feature where you could basically manipulate the terrain in real-time, and I'm sad it was ultimately never used.
@@Moshael460 Yeah the Half-Life 2 E3 demo had it, they took a flat patch of grass and it began to raise up into a hill in real time. Who knows, maybe you could actually move terrain/displacements side-to-side like this. Looking it up, it's called "env_terrainmorph", and apparently it's actually in Source 2006, but in none of the later versions. There's a whole Valve Software page on it it seems.

Source 2 can move entire maps around the player instead of moving the player around the map to save on PC resources, letting us witness smooth animations like this. Thank you, Valve.
The fact that Jamiroquai's Virtual Insanity is becoming a meme, coupled with it bleeding into some of my other favorite media, makes that black rubbery thing that passes for my heart sing like a turtledove.

I love when they have the non-diagetic background music be localized to a spot or character, so that when they change camera angles or distance, the music gets distant too.
