"You are way too close for comfort; my empire requires more living space. (WAR DECLARED)" **looks at the continent he is in, possibly the furthest away from mine** - You'll pay for this in time.
He’s like the Anti-Greece. Alexander will settle a city 4 tiles away and declare war on you for being a greedy landgrabber, but Oda will do the same from being on the other side of the fucking world.
I love how each theme has that dramatic start bit to it to emphasis the feeling of "Oh shit this nigga declared war on you!" or "Oh shit you just declared war on this nigga!"
Chodicus McBrodicus Well... While domination requires lots of micromanagement, cultural play involves only careful thinking and good plan. And cultural play actually promotes playing with less cities! When I tried to win science victory with Poland, I had to AVOID cultural win. Closing borders, not building hotels and so on. Cultural win is kinda easiest win to get in CiV in my opinion. Especially on larger maps. But playing domination game with Japan is pretty fun too. Very good civ for domination route.
wish i could get keshiks from a city state playing as shaka while also having 'military tradition' as a policy.....they probably would get new promotions after just a few turns *_*
schootsta actually had this happen to me once. It only took about 2 cities for each Keshik to get to Logistics, after that all the other promotions came like mad
Miles Edgeworth In one of my games a city-state gave him like 10 siege towers. He wiped out Russia and Brazil before I discovered all of my own continent.
At least it wasn't a Battering Ram. Can you imagine if Japan got one of those given their UA? Mongolia getting Camel Archers or Zulus getting Immortals then upgrading them to Impis? *Shudders*
Play as Japan against 11 other Japans, no city states, domination victory modifier, real world maps>Japan. Fun time to be had at epic speed or slower, as you will feel the full length of the samurai wars and interregional conflict(all ODA AI means constant war between states ), lots of interesting developments and realistic wars between daimyos to create a unified japan. What a fun game this is, I recommend this setup for a game.
Not enough cherry blossoms, snow flurries, flying cranes, perched birds, toriis, ponds, water lilies, frogs, and koi fish in this scene to do justice to the music.
I can't help but constantly visit his diplomacy screen when our relations are bad due to that aggressive orgasm grunt he does before his angry greeting. "Uuuuughhhhh!!! Sochi ka?"
It's just amazing how Civ V OST can take pieces like Rokudan no Shirabe, or a bossa nova, or even stuff like traditional melodies and make them into the most intimidating war songs ever.
@@Dfathurr Россия которая не использовала свои силы и в войне были только пограничники и корабли: да щас проиграю,блин. А ещё в этой войне Николай второй признал не захватывать Японию,так как не хотел потерь
Russian Guy What ? I thought Russia was a part of Allies forces during WW2 and the only nuclear tension between Russia and USA was the cuban missile crises (sorry for my approximative english)
Oda “Let me pass.” Me “Nah.” Oda “Let my troops pass, man.” Me “I can’t do that.” Oda “Hey, let me pass to explore the new world, and I’ll pay 2 gold per round.” Me “...Whatever, man.” Oda “YOSHI. KAKARE! (in Japanese: let’s get em’ boys)”
This guy adopted a policy that ruined my relations with all my allied city states......So I turned his empire into a bunch of smoking, radioactive craters
Oda Nobunaga (June 23, 1534 - June 21, 1582) was the initiator of the unification of Japan under the shogunate in the late 16th century, which ruled Japan until the Meiji Restoration in 1868. He was also a major daimyo during the Sengoku period of Japanese history.
His work was continued, completed and finalized by his successors Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. He was the second son of Oda Nobuhide, a deputy shugo (military governor) with land holdings in Owari Province. Nobunaga lived a life of continuous military conquest, eventually conquering a third of Japan before his death in a 1582 coup. His successor, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a loyal Oda supporter, would become the first man to unify all of Japan, and was thus the first ruler of the whole country since the Ōnin War.
lewism1995 I hated that but i did something risky and held down the button to reboot my computer while it was trying to force update and well that updater never tried that shit on me again and my computer was fine after.
I like it when civs do that. They are ususally weaker than me and then give me a random ass city that even though I had no intention of attacking any of their cities.
*An unmet civilization has lost his capital! Japan has the most original capitals!* Stupid Japan, pick on someone your own size. *discovers his continent* Now who's capital did you take? Venice's perhaps? *sees it's Shaka's capital* O_O We got a badass alert.
I played as Russia, just enjoying my thundra alone in peace until Nobunaga decided to settle on my continent and hog my natural wonders. I took them back with a Great General, so angry as fuck Oda of course declared war. I was prepared for it with my army on stand by, we repelled him despite my next to no military focus(I was going for science victory). My riflemen, cossacks, and lancers made short work of his units while my bombers demolished his city. I took it from him but then he conquered two city-states next to it which were my allies. He did it with his gargatuan, truly massive navy. Too bad my bombers could reach it. Also by that time I stamped artillery units non-stop, so I methodically swept his navy, bombed the conquered cities, then liberated both of them. Nobunaga begged for peace the turn after. Egypt won that game, By points. Because life sucks.
"Bushido is realized in the presence of death. This means choosing death whenever there is a choice between life and death. There is no other reasoning."
Especially with 1st level tenet, Elite Army. Behold, when your Japanese guys get wounded, they deal MORE damage. :> Well, Zulu earn way more exp, basically in 7 levels of normal civ, they get 8 levels of promotions. And they, like, throw spears, and attack; and get exp twice in one action - they would get their promotions faster anyway. Even without Zulu UA. So, their exped soldiers with buffalo everything are pretty sweet. ... When I think about it, only Japan and Zulu have abilities beefing their soldiers directly? Kinda interesting.
Dyndyrydyndyn Unfortunately, the Elite forces Does not work on Japan due to the way it is calculated, Normally when you take Elite forces it Reduces the wounded penalty by 25% down to 75%, Japan already has a 0% penalty and negative percentages don't work.
Byron Liu The largest one is for the horse the enemy rides, the medium one is for fighting other Samurai by dueling, and the smallest one is to kill himself with if he fails his duty as a Samurai.
+Chaos “Is” Superior Weeaboo is just a xenophile with reference to Japan... I'm guessing because people like Japan (or have misconceptions that they like about it) it is more common than, say, a person who obsesses over Italy or France. Xenophile, by definition, is the love of foreign/alien things, so you can't really have a Japanese Weeaboo, unless they grew up in a different culture.Otaku, for all intents and purposes, is the same thing as a Weeaboo. I have a Japanese friend who's told me that Otaku is less to do with anime kawaii-desu crap, and more just "a person who's obsessed with something". There's supposedly a lot of those types of people in Japan, so there's your "Japanese weeaboo". I think the Otaku center is called "Akihabara" or something like that? Big town with lots of nerd culture.
***** Part of me doubts that, unless they realized their descendants ended up as unhealthy otaku. Otherwise... eh, they may even contribute to the Otaku.
What's interesting is that in the early days of the Age of Exploration, many of us were rushing east to find trade routes and unmarked territories. Expecting that we'd be walking into 'uncivilised' territory, we found out that we were wrong, and walked trade routes straight into the Empires of the Far East.
I love to play as Japan (but also as Germany and the Aztecs, my own, with this technique) being a cultural-science empire. The bushido is excellent for survive with a few advanced army as my cities build wonders and grew great people. If someone, then, declare war on me, it's like "how dare you?" "I'll be pretty more warmonger from this point" "Your capital is practically mine" "Muahaha"
Alternatively you can make other 'national unification' games, and its neat because it doesn't matter where they are in this alternate universe, at least the people are in the right place, and it gives you some gauge on the actual massive scale of these wars even in small countries like Japan :)
***** well the ai cant work with this special ability as well as the human players because humans just use multiple ranged units to oneshot most units.
I was playing a modded game, in an earth map with true starting location as America. I took over Hawaii from Polynesia during the industrial era, and by the time I fully explored Japan’s territory, I realized it’s exactly what it was before WWII, except he also controls the eastern end of Siberia after taking them over from the Mongolians Here’s the kicker: by the time I reached WWII level technology (just got B17), Japan declared war on me (he implemented autocracy while I used freedom), and had a huge naval raid on Honolulu, which crippled my fleet. While my pacific fleet never truly recovered, I had enough forces to specifically counter his battleship-heavy style using submarines and carriers. Slowly but surely, I took back Honolulu and some other pacific islands, and I fought all the way to Japanese mainland, when I was forced to drop a nuke to save my very much upgraded fleet. Japan would later make peace with me, giving out a huge amount of gold as compensation. He would then become very friendly with me until I reached a science victory. Looking back at this game, I just realized that I played out the entirety of WWII in the pacific theater without me even noticing it
MAXZONE47 Even better: you're Venice on a Coast with Denmark and Japan right next to you, and Denmark is *also* on a coast... *and then they **_declare war on you._* You might as well retire the game if that happens.
He has a short sword/dagger which is almost ceremonial - A Wakizashi; He has a Katana, which is a two handed sword (can be used in one hand as well); And finally, the Nodachi, which is the back-worn anti cavalry blade.
Once you hear this theme, on your next turn, that field he is standing in is going to be filled to the horizon with hundreds of men that are dressed exactly like him...
I always seem to hear this theme at least once every time I'm in a game with Japan in it. Now that I'm in the middle of a game as Japan, I'm probably going to hear this a bit more often, though oddly enough, I've made it to the medieval era without fighting anyone yet. It's partly because I'm on a bit of an isolated island chain on an archipelago map, plus I have a huge navy: nobody is close enough to me to covet my lands, and the AI seems to be smart enough to know that any attempt to launch an attack - at least in the medieval era - will result in a lot of their embarked units sinking along my coastline. Alexander is one of my rivals though, so I just know that at some point, we're going to get into a fight. And then I'll get to hear two of the most overplayed war themes.
Months later... I won a time victory in this game. Kind of anti-climactic. I was going for a science victory just because I happened to be ahead in tech, but constant wars with Alexander slowed me down. Oh well.
Phlebas I hear this theme many times also! I'm playing huge with continents and I am the only one by myself on a small continent and no more than 5 turns after I meet him he settles on my continent and declares war!
Sniffable Table Interestingly enough, I just finished a game (as Austria) where I didn't go to war with Oda. In fact, he kept asking to be my friend and I kept telling him 'no' because I only wanted to stay friends with the cool kids. It was actually kind of sad - starting in the Renaissance, almost every civ declared war on him, and he was getting hounded non-stop until the information era. In the end, he was reduced to a single city on a one-tile island. I also never realised how vicious Hiawatha can be. Glad he and I were on good terms.
Sniffable Table Well crap. Just started a game and I'm sharing a continent with Hiawatha and Alexander (I'm now playing Assyria). This should be interesting...
Oda Nobunaga, the honorable leader of Japan, who fought in a very similar style to Napoleon-- Trot out onto the battlefield with his soldiers, fighting alongside them to the death, claiming land for his country. Truly honorable.
I like that about this game, the AI generally fits the attitude and personality of their specific country. Nobunaga is also very Isolationist which is very accurate for Japan.
However the odachi/nodachi is. (Japanese great/field sword, respectively.) According to wikipedia, it has to be over a yard long (3 shaku ~=3 feet) to be called such (and often much longer), and that's long enough that hip wearing could be uncomfortable. They were still in use in Nobunaga's time. Wikipedia even has a historic picture of a man with 3 swords similar in scale to this character model. Who knew - Civilization can be historically accurate.
I typically play on marathon and I enjoy when I get my navy all setup in the modern era and it's just me and him, and we have a showdown. The only civ that's truly difficult to defeat just because his troops always fight at full health.
It’s actually not that inaccurate. Every sword he has exists in history. A wakizashi on his right side, a katana on his left, and a Nodachi on his back. The main inaccuracy is that he doesn’t have the katana and wakizashi tied to the same side but that could very much depend on a person’s individual preference.
"We, by the grace of Heaven, Emperor of Japan, and seated on the throne of a line unbroken for ages eternal, enjoin upon thee, our loyal and brave subjects. We hereby declare war upon the United States of America and the British Empire. "The men and officers of our army and navy shall do their utmost in prosecuting the war. Our public servants of various departments will perform faithfully and diligently their appointed tasks and all other subjects of ours shall pursue their respective duties. "The entire nation with united will shall mobilize their united strength so that nothing will miscarry in the attainment of our royal aims. "To insure the solidity of these ages and contribute to world peace is the far-sighted policy which was formulated by our great, illustrious, imperial grandsire and our great imperial sire's experience, and which we lay constantly to heart; to cultivate friendship among nations and to enjoy prosperity in common with all nations - has always been the guiding principle of our empire's foreign policy. "It has been unavoidable and far from our wishes that our empire has been brought to cross swords with America and Britain. "More than four years have passed since China, failing to comprehend the true intentions of our empire, and recklessly causing trouble, disturbed the peace of East Asia and compelled our empire to take up arms. "Although there has been re-established the National government of China, with which Japan has effected neighborly intercourse and co-operation, the regime which has survived at Chungking, relying upon American and British protection still continues its opposition. "Eager for the realization of their inordinate ambitions to dominate the Orient, both America and Britain, supporting the Chungking regime, have aggravated disturbances in East Asia. Moreover, these two powers, inducing other countries to follow suit, increased military preparations on all sides of our empire to challenge us. They have obstructed by every means our peaceful commerce and finally resorted to direct severance of economic relations, menacing gravely the existence of our empire. "Patiently have we waited and long have we endured in the hope that our government might retrieve the situation in peace. "But our adversaries, showing not the least spirit of conciliation, have unduly delayed a settlement, and in the meantime they have intensified the economic and political pressure to compel thereby our empire to submission. "This turn of affairs would, if left unchecked, not only nullify our empire's efforts of many years for the sake of the stabilization of East Asia, but also endanger the very existence of our nation. "The situation being such as it is our empire, for its existence and self-defense, has no other recourse but to appeal to arms and to crush every obstacle in its path. "The hallowed spirits of our imperial ancestors guard us from above and we rely upon the loyalty and courage of our subjects in our confident expectation that the task bequeathed by our forefathers will be carried forward and that the source of the evil will be speedily eradicated and an enduring peace immutably established in East Asia, preserving thereby the glory of our empire." (Signed) Tojo; December 8, 1941.
Japan prepares the navy for the attack on Peal Harbour! And in an alternative universe, invades the west coast of America. Until the Red Army of the USSR takes Japan. Then the Cold War would of been very different from our current timeline.
And this would had been very different nowadays. If that happened, Chile would never have the economic and cultural ally that Japan is for us. The diplomatic ties between Chile and Japan are tight.
Remember what the Soviets did to Germany after the war in the west ended? They sacked, raped and pillaged every city they could find. The Nuclear Bomb scared them to the point that they left Japan, as they had made landfall a few days before the first bomb was dropped. However, I see the killing of innocent civilians as deeply unjust.
In reality, if Germany's plan in WWII to take the Soviet Union had succeeded, then *in Hitler's viewpoint* would see no need to have Japan as an ally anymore b/c he thinks that he can now overpower Japan, thus starting a new eastern campaign. Good thing that potential nightmare didn't happen.
I usually play as the Americans. The Japanese almost always show up in when I do. They end up as either my bestest friend or my greatest enemy. As enemies we end up going to war in the modern era over, I kid you not, oil. I hear this music a lot.
yeah, Sengoku Jidai was pretty much marked by the "pike and shot" formations as there were in European battlefields. that's why, during this period, samurai began to lose their importance in the battlefield and "ashigaru"(light, peasant troops armed with spears, bows and guns) became to be the most "important" pieces for victory.
I would like to know the name of the instrument that starts at 2:17 It sounds very beautiful Favorite part is at 3:04 when the orchestra joins, the beating of loud thundering drums makes this theme feel so powerful in unison
specifically from 4:13 to 4:22 for me. the koto arpeggio with the flute sweeps is unholy. and the way it ties together at the end. also really appreciate the harp sweeps as well
@@strumib Thank you so much. After finding out that it is the Koto, I discovered artists like Mizuyo Komiya and Tadao Sawai, who have mastered this gift of an instrument
The Bushido ability means they get combat bonus, so their units can still cripple you alot when they are almost dead, but still it doesent mean they are immortal
@spinhook888 Actually that is true. On his left is a regular katana (to kill you with), on his back is the gigantic zanbatō (to kill your horse with), and on his right is the shorter wakizashi (to kill himself with).
Here's to you, Nobunaga. Even in a game that contained Attila, you still managed to make all the AIs hate you first! Seriously, be the best at whatever you do, even if it's being a warmongering, city razing jerkass.
His AI is literally Fuck anyone within 40 tiles of him. All of his aggression, war, unit production, and expansion flavours are all at least 7 out of 10.
That Bushido buff is a bitch to overcome. I only survived because I was playing as China and had a Great General give pretty sizable bonus percentages to my units.
