This is a video With the Civivi Elementum vs the Benchmade Bugout. These kbives have many similarities and many differences but its a great battle either way check it out.
@@SHENDOH poor is a state of mind. I know exactly what you mean by that though. You may not have a lot of money, and believe me, I'm not rich by any means either but things can always get better. I don't even know you but I believe in your value as there isn't anyone else in the entire world that's you. 👍
I put Flytanium titanium scales on my S35VN Elementum and also the Civivi titanium pocket clip from Amazon. So now my $60 Elementum turned into about $139 knife. But it feels so much sturdier than a standard one. It feels premium now.
I managed to score the Blackwash s30v elementum. Should be here Monday , but I do have the carbon fiber backlash that’s sharp an smooth right out of the box . It’s my dressy knife
First bought the Elementum D2, then a Statera D2, just got my jade Elementum S35VN. Hey man for the cost the materials and quality of fit n finish makes Civivi a winner in my book. Even the nylon case is classy.
That Statera is no slouch. I have 2 of tyhem and don't use one of them due to being discontinued. Statera is o9ne of my favotrites and more like a We than a Civivi. Statera is just so well built If I could have a Statera in 20CV I wouldn't have to own so many knives.
Just watched this today (4/6/23) and your presentation from this video to current has improved immensely. As far as the knives go, at this point in time, I’d go with the WE knives elementum in ti. But even between these two, the civivi would win out.
Great comparison. I don’t have the Bugout yet but, who knows. It’s on my list of, got to get...lol. But also, I do love the Civivi. Civivi’s are hard to beat in there price range. CJRB is making a run at them but I still think Civivi comes out on top. Also against Benchmade’s budget knives. I love that these upper end companies are competing for the best budget knives.
I have the Bugout with brass scales, but the Elementum with brass scales is my next knife when Blade HQ gets them in stock. Oh and the count on the Elementum is 9 not 8 . I went back and had to recount 3 times. LOL Keep the great videos coming...
Its a winner either way thanks for paying attention, im glad to see you were, it makes me smile being caught up on mistakes it just mean the person was actually watching and listening
is the middle finger flick only possible because of the dlc finish? or the general blade shape? because i can't find anywhere that mentions a dlc finish, only stonewashed
Great video. The only other category I would have added would be if it is ambidextrous. I’m a lefty so the fact I can’t reverse the clip gives the win to the Bugout for me. If the Elementum had a reversible clip...game over! It would destroy the Bugout. It drives me crazy because so many other civivi models have that. Working a liner lock left handed is no big deal. I have the shredder and the chronic models and love them.
If you loosen your pivot screw like 1/10th of a turn, it will flip in and out so much better. They are finicky. But makes a huge difference and you’ll still have no blade play.
@@xenonram definitely, but theres plenty of knives made in the usa made in smaller shops that charge less, Putting a massive tax on something and saying its made in the usa only goes so far, at a certain point they are charging for the name not because it costs so much to make.
@@NeevesKnives And "Made in USA" doesn't hold weight in today's market. People are investing in custom knives to get made in USA AND quality. As far as warranty, I can buy three civivi's+ compared to alot of usa knives.
I just can't bring myself to spend $125-$140 for the Bugout. I'd rather pay a little more for the Super Freak or 940. Elementum everyday and twice in Tuesday! Good job sir!
@@jayn8392 you're probably aware, but civivi does have a button lock version now. I love the elementum, but I still ordered the bugout to try it. If I have a good experience with benchmade's "budget" knife I'll spring for the super freek or Adamas later on
Just purchased the Elementum with ebony handle and D2 blade. It’s been my EDC for a few weeks now. Definitely an amazing knife. I get why everyone talks about these knives. Don’t sleep on Civivi.
Dude! I got a Bugout 535-3 (too much $$$!) and from day one I noticed the grind. Thought it was just me, pretty sure it’s going back though, especially after seeing this on the elementum. Thanks
I own both got the bug out about a year ago not gonna lie was alittle disappointed the fn scales makes it feel cheap to me also had to adjust it. And the lock was sticking The elementum I have had for 2 months now absolutely love it great knife not a single flaw I will take the civivi over the bug out any day
I can’t find one of those jade natural g10 elementums anywhere. I love that knife. Hopefully they come back in stock soon. I have the Damascus and carbon fiber elementum.
Pretty sure that was a BHQ exclusive (from a while ago), I would *GUESS* thats the only time we'll see it. Hopefully I'm very wrong, because I *REALLY* want one too! I missed out on it too and the few times ive seen it 2nd hand its been overpriced unfortunately. IMO 1 of the best attires for that model for sure.
Playing along with my Gray G10 Elementum and green/gray Bugout...Both my copies are pretty perfect. I actually like the green FRN scales. They are pretty cool looking (for FRN 😺)...and LIGHT! That’s the whole point of the knife...lightweight=Bugout..DUH...I can't see getting heavier aftermarket scales, .that defeats the idea behind the knife....plus I have plenty of other knives with all kinds of cool scales. So I am keeping my Bugout stock. That said I definitely like my Elementum MORE. I LOVE my WE Knives. They are my favorite production knives. It’s no contest!
Honestly the g10 scales dont feel any heavier they just make it feel stronger, the weight difference is so small you cant feel it, but I think its a perfect kind of edc knife that is cool as a light weight or as a titanium knife so I get it, and it feels like a completely different knife when you add scales, I guess thats why so many people have doubles
I notice when I changed the scales on my Bugout I got lock stick when I got a bit of Pivot Lube on the lock bar. It went away once I cleaned the lube off the bar and the lock face. Lesson learned. Go light on the lubrication.
Definitely mine was all messed up from the factory and I had to keep cleaning it over and over until the grit and stick went away, but when the omegas broke it came back for a bit after I replaced them
Neeves Knives that really sucks. I have a Minigriptilian that has been a headache. I cannot get the blade to center, and it has blade play unless it is tightened to the point that it barely opens. I feel your pain.
Button lock did drop for the elementum BUT...no secondary deployment. Only the button, no flipper. People are calling it a dealbreaker. I tend to agree.
@@tyingharmonyunlisted3050 yea , the no 2nd deployment option is no good . Even on my Milwaukee fastback ( which was my fav utility knife for easy operation.) I still wished it had a thumb stud. Hoping there will be a v2 of it.
Use the side of your finger with pressure, so its not a typical flick I use the meat on the side, also the lower on the blade the better kinda so closer to the tip of the blade, not the actual tip just closer, if you watch it again now you will see
Got both; love both. Elementum is much classier-looking; Bugout can't be beat for weight. Bugouts are made in my home state. But the Elementum proves that when the Chinese want to build something good, they can. Just wish the price wasn't based on slave wages. I will always feel conflicted by that fact. But dang it if CIVIV/WE doesn't make a dang find product!
“Slave” wages?? 😂 Umm slaves don’t get any wage. You can’t judge another country’s economy to ours. It’s business. It’s global economics. It’s not based on morals. With all due respect to your opinion. 🔪❤️
@@daddygc5814 i have some with springs that havent broken yet either and then I have some that have broken multiple times, also they have different size springs
I’ve been super busy this week. I forgot that Monday I was supposed to be In Wisconsin and Monday’s like my only day I don’t need to rush to a baby sitter to get my son after work and usps hours don’t comply with the rest of my weeks schedule. I really can’t wait to send you the stuff I told you about.
Neeves Knives bud, I literally took every bearing out of its caged race and cleansed with a tooth pick and Qtip on the zt0393 and holy crap it’s definitely a smoother action than the new hinderer. The hinderer falls shut like a loose door but isn’t anywhere near the feeling of the zt that is drop shut.
I've gotta say it now, I bet the Civivi Elementum is a better bang for your buck, but it really depends on what your looking for, if you want made in USA than the bug out will be better, but if you are looking for something made anywhere that is good for the price then the S35VN Elementum would be your choice.
First sir. My Elementum won't even open without all my might behind it. I like it a lot. But they also sent it with a untrue tip somehow and when I sent it in for repair as nice as they were, bent it back 2/3 strait and they sent it back. I had also asked them to replace it and told them I'd pay but they implied they would do it. The finish fades in a month and it's a rock compared to the benchmade. For the money the knife was a no Brainer but quality control, consistency and Honesty are paramount. If they had just sold me a blade or replaced it as they offered I'd half really considered the Civivi a even quality and sharpess even. I hope you never need a blade service. I'd settle to buy a replacement blade.
Axis-lock is fun and cool but the omega spring break you mention makes the knife useless. A liner lock may not be fancy.. but is super hard to fuckup on a well made knife like Civivi. Chances are your blade would break off ahead of any liner lock breakage.
Love the CF Gent I have except for the pocket clip which has already snagged and bent, so I had to remove it and bend it back towards the knife scale to re-tension it.
So I'm a bit of a novice with these 2 brands, especially benchmade. Just got my first bugout today. My notes. If you get a civivi knife, you will always have loose screws. But they are great and affordable. The button lock elementums are weird. The one is too big and it's seriously missing the flipper tab and the fact that it is locked shut is such a terrible design choice. The other is too small for my my medium sized hands and the flipper tab doesn't flip open confidently. This bugout I got, it was just weird from the get. Had to get used to the axis lock and was originally dissatisfied with how it opened. I was watching video on how to disassemble because I am immediately swapping the scales out. I loosened all the screws and centered the blade in between the scales as the video instructed and now it operates very well. The few hundred flicks open and fidgeting I've done with it probably helped too. So basically, both brands have minor errors and inconsistencies out of the box, is what I've noticed so far. Be prepared to take apart and troubleshoot if need be.
I had both and I got rid of the bugout. It was a plastic piece of crap. The benchmade knives arelike the Glock , of the knife world. For every benchmade, I can find a better alternative. Still,I love your content. God bless.
I wish they'd bring back the jade scales on the Elementum, they were sold out before I even knew it existed lol damnit. I also didnt realize how similar in size these two knives are.
Comparing an exclusive edition of one knife to the original edition of the other knife is kinda like apples to oranges imo. Compare both originals to each other
Well I think eventually it will be a knife that you can buy anytime as long as its from blade hq I know they just had some in micarta they were selling, and even if they do stop selling them I just thought it was a good video to do, a lot of people have the bugout and the Elementum and to a lot of people the steel might not matter but in this case they were similar
As far as I am concerned Civivi wins all the time everyday. Better quality, better materials, better finish and superior pricing. US companies really need to take a long, long look in the mirror. Many Chinese brands are superior, for a fraction of the money.
Yeah but they dobt have the expenses that we have, so they can do that, as much as it was getting better over the last couple years we basically just threw all that down the drain, but for our labor, insurance, 401k, retirement, exc.. They dont have that its a communist country. But i would love to see us do better
The spring broke when i first got it back from benchmade the second time, since ive replaced them with the springs from etsy they have been solid, ive got many benchmades with axis locks that have never broken any
If this version of the civivi more available I would go with that, but since you can only get it on the secondary market and you can get a Bugout anywhere, I have to give this one to Benchmade.
Try Benchmade 'warranty' when within the first week the omega spring on the Bugout jumps out on one side and you want your money back for their crappy product. I was told they'll check it, fix it and return it, but they are so sure of the quality of their product that they don't do a refund. Here's my take on this.. I will never ever ever buy from this gangster company again, and I'll tell as many people as possible about the Benchmade company 'warranty'.
They make bigger knives, my favorite is the Picaro, its a big knife with amazing blade geometry and sims like i love it more and more the longer i have it
The omegas are separate from the lock itself, i agree sometimes omegas suck because they can break but if there not broken then the locks strength has nothing to do with their strength, ive also got knives that ive had the longest that have never broken any omegas, so as long as your omegas are fine the locks strength is incredibly strong it doesn't put pressure on the omegas at all
I really wish the civivi elementum had more availability to prevent price gouging in the secondary market, they’re selling this version of the elementum on ebay for $180
Maybe with some direct competitors bringing in what’s very similar to the bugout they will drop the price slightly. I’ll eventually get a bugout just to see what it’s like. I also want an affordable front flipper .
@@NeevesKnives I think mine was a fluke. Somebody put a Rockwell hardness type of dent right in the detent ball track. No one caught that before it left the factory. When I got it and found the problem, I didn't want to send it back & not have the knife. Back then, no one had Elementum's in stock of any variety. With the upgraded steel (in my mind), micarta (I love micarta) , thinner blade stock, I had to get the S35VN one. They were sold out of the black coated micarta one's, so I went with the stonewashed one. I have handled & used an original grivory Bugout & it just felt too light in the handle. The cost of the Bugout threw me off too. Knock off 50 bucks from that & I'd be more interested. They are both great knives, but I like the Elementum better. With all the knives I can carry, I choose to EDC my weak detent Elementum every day. Perfect little knife for me. Kinda plane Jane looking, but looks aren't everything. 😅
mate benchmade is gonna have to be doing something if they wanna compete with china and if they wanna keep ripping your face off charging 100+ extra for some basic CF and s90v. Maybe now the guy who fixing centering the blades at benchmade has to be awake at the job!! imagine.
The lock is great its the small springs that suck, the bigger ones are good and they dont seem to have problems but knives like the bugout that use smaller omegas are an issue other companies that use this lock use heavier duty omegas and do really well, also you can get better springs for about 6$ that work great
