Yes, the lead bike took him off course.. probably wasn’t expecting to be going so fast right off the line! Inexcusable mistake that’s for sure. And as far as the 2:10 in practice, I DEFINITELY would NOT do that. I also DEFINITELY wouldn’t start with the Elites in Boston, or finish top 10 in the most prestigious race in the world. And I most definitely would not set world records in running. On another podcast he talks about never pushing himself past comfort level in training. Seems like he could have ran a sub 2:05 if he was actually racing Modesto, since he went home and ran another 8 miles the same day, didn’t taper for Modesto, and had no competition whatsoever. In the pictures from the race he looks relaxed and comfortable. GO CJ! Top American and Top 5 in Boston!?

I broke 3 for the first time at the same Modesto Marathon (2:59:41s). Check out my Strava “Erick Jimenez” out of Modesto CA. I talked to CJ at the starting line and asked what his goal time was for the race, he said “egh, just going out for my last long run before Boston” then he RIPPED a 2:10 lol Glad they fixed the 1st place situation, The Modesto Marathon actually does give cash prizes for the top 3 males and females, so yeah it does kinda matter… top age group finishers also get beer mugs with a cool “1st Place” decal, shirts, hats, etc and they give BQ prizes too.. it’s a small Marathon, but they do alright… Now I’m officially the 11th overall finisher instead of 10th, but we had CJ run a 2:10 in MODESTO! Hopefully more elites catch wind and show up, The Modesto Marathon is pancake flat and literally has one overpass as the only “hill”. We will all be rooting for CJ in Boston that’s for sure, and hopefully we see him in Modesto next year too..

Didn't the lead bike lead him off course? He definitely showed he can run 2::10 in Boston. I wouldn't do that for practice.
