@@michaelterrell2108 is he though? Lex became obsessed with finding out Clarks secret and that obsession is what ultimately doomed him. If he had been in on the secret from the very beginning perhaps he would have seen Clark as someone who trusted him and maybe just maybe they would have had a normal friendship
@@Mohagnito94 Lex is incapable of being fully good. He will help others with an ulterior motive. As soon as said person backs out, he'll turn on them. Luthor blood is Luthor is blood. It's poison. -Clark Kent season 10.
Agreed man i would love a development during the universe and somehow at the end lex gets to know clark is supes and then he gets the feeling of betrayal etc i would love it totally
I honestly love the friendship they shared with each other. Clark brought out the best in Lex while Lex treated Clark like the little brother he never had.
@@thebyrdcage8619they’d be cool for awhile sure, but Lex would try to steal clark’s powers or something somehow. And clearly Lex somehow becomes an okay guy if Clark gave up his powers with a man like Lex in office. If you’ve seen the crossover.
@@thebyrdcage8619 Maybe. In the parallel Earth where Injustice takes place they remained best friends well into their adult years until Clark killed the Joker and took over Earth. Point is it’s possible.
@@thebyrdcage8619oh definitely, Lex was weird, but was such a good friend, and loved him genuinely, Clark was kinda a bad friend in general, not only with him, but with all his friends.
I never realized until now, when lex in the finale says "I have a second chance at life....we have a destiny together" He said that word for word in the pilot, only in the finale he adds "only on opposite sides"
Clark wasn't that great of a friend at the beginning. They could have been great together, but sadly Lionel and Clark's father caused too much friction.
you prolly dont give a shit but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf these days xD
His dialogue was the best in the series. Whoever wrote the last episode shouldn't be allowed to write anything ever again. It was an offense to Lex Luthor.
I firmly believe if Clark told Lex his secret even early on, it only would have delayed but not prevented the end of their friendship. They would be closer at first but their conflicting moral compasses and beliefs would put them at odds and Lex would try and manipulate Clark one too many times and they would become enemies as they were destined to be.
I feel Lex would’ve went behind Clark’s back to achieve something whose means he believed were justified, but Clark wouldn’t have seen it that way. He would get confused, upset, and, ultimately, their relationship would’ve crumbled
@@dantejordan4847 idk, it happened with Oliver several times, but despite diverging opinions they were still able to go forward and stay friends, Lex could have perhaps been "saved/reformed" if Clark opened to him (which would have allowed him to stay a positive influence on Lex, hell most of the early seasons drama would have been non-existent if Clark wasn't as secretive as he is all the while critisizing other for keeping secrets) but we'll never know
I always thought the same. But, it was also Clark's secret to tell when he was ready. If Lex truly wanted to be a friend, he would've waited for as long as it took. And not try to go behind his back to find it out.
I hate how the writers love messing with me I knew lex was the villain before I watched the show but they make him seem like such a nice good guy I actually believed it it makes me so sad watching old videos
Aah! This is a good Lex Luthor! Charming, manipulative, with a smile of confidence at the same time of a killer instinct. Why did we get Alan Harper portraying Lex instead of this?
First time Clark met Lex as a toddler it seemed like he wanted to be Lex friend. I remember Lex passing out as Clark touched his head. Was probably wondering why Lex hair was falling out.
I’m on board the lex and Clark friendship, as both of their conflicting personality traits would actually sharpen each other, testing themselves to be better. A true friend isn’t a agree with you all the time, but someone who’ll occasionally test you. Not giving up on that friend is what helps strengthen it
The portrayal of Lex and Clark is incredible in this series. There always seemed this hope for them as if the rivalry never existed and that there was a chance for things to turn out differently. I truly believe Lex was a good person on the inside and that Clark helped bring it out in him. Martha said it in season 4 something along the lines of how Lex isn’t just investing Clark to investigate him but that he’s doing it because ever since he’s met Clark it’s like he’s had a guardian watching over him of course he’d be curious. I truly think this iteration of Lex could have gone on to be Clark’s greatest friend had Clark told him the truth. Clark lied to Lex as often as Lex did to him. It was this incredible portrayal by Tom and Michael as well as the writers who showed that Lex wasn’t the only bad guy here (not that Clark is bad just that Lex isn’t the only one at fault). This series had a way of showing glimmers of hope for an everlasting friendship between them but we all knew it was never going to happen even though we wanted it.
Lex could have been the biggest ally of all, if Clark didn't just lied to him, but let him in Belle Rive just to protect his secret, that was a huge mistake and Clark never acknowledged it.
Nobody noticed how Lex has a red blanket wrapped around him like a cape as if he is destined to be superman while Clark has a jacket covering his blanket wrapped him foreshadowing him having to protect his identity
"I saw a second chance. We have the future: I don't want anything to stand in the way of our friendship." Unfortunately, Clark not including Lex in his circle of trust did stand in the way of their friendship. Yet, even in his villain turn, Lex frames it in terms of what he can do to help his friend Clark: "every hero is defined by his villain."
this clark and lex friendship is one of the things what makes this show is so dang good, i mean we all know lex luthor will be the arch nemesis of superman, but man...the character building and development to that point is really awesome. thank you for all the people making this tv show, it literally accompanying me in my teen
I watched Smallville back in high but stopped watching it after a while and even got rid of my seasons of it. My fiancé is a DC fan and of this show so I bough him season 1 as a gift. We're watching it together and man I forgot how much I loved this show, particularly Lex and Clark's friendship in the beginning. I wish they could have stayed friends longer but I guess that's not how the comics were written.
i was reminded of lex and clark while watching gotham. bruce and jeremiah had a great friendship, and the latter admitted that the former is the only one he loved which could've kept his sanity. but all good things have to come to an end, and the two become even more complicated as batman and the joker.
I’m not a comic book person. I’ve watched the movies and of course Smallville. In the show Smallville I have to wonder that if Jonathan Kent would have been a father figure to Lex since his own father Lionel was deplorable would he have turned out differently. Jonathan and Martha Kent successfully raised the most powerful person in the history of Earth(this is the opinion of my limited knowledge base). If these same two people would have been Lex’s surrogate parents perhaps it would have made a difference. Watching the show it seems as though Lex yearns for this relationship with Jonathan and each time Jonathan treats him like a pariah. Just wondering….maybe some comic book guys can answer this.
One of the show's creators (Al Gough) revealed that the reason Lex chose to stay with the Kents, in an episode where Lionel disowned him and threw him out of the mansion--is because he wanted a family. And that even though he could've gone anywhere he wanted, no amount of money in the world would be able to buy what Clark and the Kents had. The power it had to keep Clark from using his abilities for evil/crime, would've likely applied for Lex as well.
1:56 “That necklace gives you the power Clark, all you’ve got to do is use it” They must’ve written that line like that on purpose, because that necklace quite literally *takes away* his powers.. I wonder if Rosenbaum and Welling have ever talked about this scene on their Smallville podcast
Definitely going to rewatch the series from the beginning but looking over some of this footage from the first season with these two… Makes me feel sad for how the way things fill apart between them because you can see the genuine gratitude that Lex has for Clark having saved his life and it developing into its own sort of brotherly affection with Lex really wanting to help his “little brother” out even if his methods are pretty “cloak and dagger-ish” since it’s what Lex knows. Plus, Lex has that ego and I think in a way he takes a level of deep enjoyment in sort of “spoiling” and “teaching” Clark not unlike an older sibling and more so because Clark is very wholesome and sincere with his delight and his own thanks along with him never seeking to get something out of Lex. Makes it sadder and unlike the longtime blame that Lionel pinned on Lex for what happened with his baby brother and by extent his mother… Lex is truly to blame for losing his “brother” in Clark.
His last words to Clark are "I love you like a brother" in Season 7 finale. I don't count Season 8 & majority of 10 to be the Lex because its a stand in playing Rosenbaum's part, the show went downhill when he left
@@cerowe92 Honestly I found Lois so frigging annoying personality wise, the moment her character came into the show & immediately she was a "student" oldest looking student in any tv show
@@cerowe92 Well not being sexist but she's a woman & was born human so I think the power will go to her head. The same way it did Lana. Remember how Lana almost killed Clark when she got his powers because she went all vengeful & wanted Lex dead?
@@cerowe92 I am talking about real world experience. Statistics actually show women in positions of power are more manipulative than men, perhaps if you take a break from the comic books & read actual stats of women bullying women in the work place you would have gotten the joke I was making comparing a mutt like Lois Lane to real life women who are abusing their real world "powers".
@@Stuart267Lois can be quite unpredictable more often than not. Given her irritability nature, she would definitely break a lot of bones and drop quite a few bodies if she were given Kryptonian powers, whether by accident or in the heat of anger. Hell, Lois had no qualms threatening Emil Hamilton with a scalpel or being about ready to shoot Tess dead just to get Clark out of the Phantom Zone. People say she's no less heroic than Clark, yet her violent actions speak otherwise.
Lex: Clark, how the hell did you get passed my swat team, and cameras, and laser guided alarm system with heat seaking missiles? Clark: Nah, fam. You left the back door open. Lex: Oh, well shit.
I miss these early episodes. Lex was such a great wingman and big brother to Clark. He presented a devious and strategic way of thinking that Clark's good nature just couldn't conceive of until Lex showed it to him. He also pushed Clark to be more bold in his pursuit of Lana and was genuinely happy for any progress Clark made. It's a shame that brotherly bond went out the window in Season 5 and Season 6 with Lex and Clark's broken friendship and Lex and Lana getting together.
I feel clark should have been honest with Lex about it instead of hiding it. I feel early on if he would have told him before Lex went crazy Lex wouldn’t have become as bad as he did later on.
you know, I just got done watching the clip of the episode with the guy with the handshake and everyone was like "oh, if he just told Lex then things would be completely different with Lex and he might have been good" I honestly think that the clip when he is talking about the battle of troy and gives the necklace to Clark tells how he would've been. He tells Clark that's his power and encourages him to use it. I feel like their friendship would've gone the same way either way but if Clark told him he had powers it would go south quicker because Lex want to use them to further his own goals.
I sort of had a thing for Kex; maybe because he was the bad boy?🤷but I really do think he acted like a brother to Clark, at least for a few seasons. I hated that they became enemies, that's why I stopped watching the show. I guess they had to, or the movies wouldn't make sense.😎😋🤭
I've never watched Smallville. But I'm reading a ff rn with reference to Smallville events and a whole ass chapter and half is literally lex just ranting about telling the truth and like
