I fucking love that childhood flashback. Dads fixing the truck, Clark is playing with the best dog, so happy, and both parents are simply admiring their son. Fuck man 😭😭😭
I honestly think that casting Kevin Costner as Clarks father was one of the best things they did for this film. He adds such a level of "home" to Clarks back story.
I've always thought that showing his at times difficult relationship with his father while growing up trying to understand who or what he was really grounded Syner's Superman. He isn't just some alien dude in red underwear that saves people in dire situations. He's one of them who just happens to be capable of truly amazing things. And, of course it helps that Cavil is so damn handsome and looks exactly like you'd expect Superman to look like.
@@c0zyDwhy tho He feel so warm and mature He look like a good father who has an immense love for his son and willing to do anything for it Not just generic good parent This guy truly want to guide and protect his son
1:48-2:41 hits hard... I lost my older brother last year and ever since, this scene has made me cry. He always loved Superman and even wore the shirt to prove it. He was a firefighter, saved lives, was there for me growing up whenever I needed him, and he always believed in good and helping others... we would play superheroes in the yard as kids, and in my life, he really ended up being my biggest motivator and idol. This scene makes me miss that. This was a great film.
senseiofawesom1(carter) The crazy thing is that even tho Marvel has been better overall with their universe.....DC has the three best origin stories in comic book movie history. Man of Steel.....Wonder Woman.....and Batman Begins in that order are the top three origin stories ever. Even tho Batman Begins isn't part of the DCEU. But Marvel doesn't have a great origin story other than Iron Man 1 which was a great movie but all three of the DC films are better. The trinity rules at the end of the day. Nobody does origins like DC baby!!!
@@michaelplurad8670 i tell you that there were other superman movie before you either they are old or useless but objectively they are still movie that superman deserved
@ I see your point, but this isn't better then the first two with Christopher Reeve, and i like Cavill but Reeve is on another level. This movie had fantastic parts but the some of them were awful, esspecially the middle and the fight scenes. It made me loose interest not gain it.
stan broniszewski the thing is, Christopher Reeve will always be the definitive Superman, not only because of nostalgia, but also because he himself understood the character just as much as the writer’s of the movies had. This is very far from Zack Snyder’s take, which although realistic, is very far off from Superman’s core.
Felipe Cortez true it was a little dramatic for the first film but it’s still undoubtedly a masterpiece the flash back of his dad looking at him as a kid knowing he’s destined for greatness always brings a teir to my eye 👁 it’s beautiful this film 🎥😄😄😄😄😎😎😎😎😊👍🏻!!!
Fun fact: I saw this in portuguese and the line "he's kinda hot" is funnier because the dubbers used an expression to call someone hot: "ele é mesmo de outro planeta" which literally means "he's really from another planet".
1:56 - 2:43 is my favorite scene in any superman movie. The subtle hits of the piano, Jonathan's expression looking at Clark, and the dog of course. Anyone who thought he was trying to hide Clark from the world needs to watch this again. He knows exactly who he's going to become, he just wants clark to grow into a man before bringing that much attention and responsibility to himself, like a good father should.. If you seek his monument, look around you.
Such a brilliant ending, no need for a final flight like Batman or final swing like Spider-man. This film was wonderfully grounded and deeply poetic. Most underrated superhero film ever.
You know people give the movie so much grief over the tornado scene. But here, you see Jonathan Kent being the first human being ON THE PLANET to see Superman as WE see him. His sense of purpose and being must have been rocked and inspired. Like I get it now; his mindset from that point forward must have been " My son is the real deal, he will lead them to greatness and I must do and give everything I have to help him reach his potential". A true father, Jonathan Kent.
And the thing is, His both real and adoptive parents are such great parents ny themselves and did what was good for their son... Real ones couldn't raise him but did what was best for him.. no matter how much they loved him... and adoptive did whatever they thought was good for raising him hiding his identity for good... I once thought that was jor-el wanting clark back but then he was zod... ( cz mostly in many movies real parents took their son away from adoptive ones)
This is the first Superman movie where the ending scene isn't him flying in space towards the sun and smiling for the camera. Nothing wrong with that, just an interesting fact
they did that scene when hes flying over the planet and end over the space, see " superman frist fly" again ma boy cause that scene is there. ( sorry for ma bad english)
1:57 is one of my favorite scenes in any film. People say this is just a destructionfest must have been sleeping through the rest of the movie. Hans Zimmer's amazing score and Kevin Costner did a fantastic job at giving emotion and heart to a scene with no dialogue. What a perfect ending to a great film.
1:57 onwards, holy mother of God. It's the greatest montage I've ever seen in any superhero movie. So pristine, so soulful and exquisitely beautiful. Take a bow Snyder
DC fans are fools... they shit on things which has heart and that's why they get JL17... even those who don't deserve such horrendous flick were forced to watch it in the name of JL...
I actually wanted a MoS sequel before BvS. That way we get to dive deep into Cavill's Superman. But I loved MoS nevertheless. Still my number one DCEU film. Hope we get a MoS sequel with Cavill still as Supes.
@@Nauginaugi5 that doesn't mean it wasn't done too quickly. A death of superman story bears no weight if he dies in the second movie he's in because: a) he's integral to the JL being part of the trinity so i know he's coming back, lowering the stakes; b) he doesn't have the same stature in universe with the populace, evidenced by the debates about him and the hearing, meaning enough people distrust him enough that mourning him wouldn't suddenly be a worldwide event for someone that's only been around in public for a year or two; c) because he's only been around for a short period, the death hasn't been "earned" in terms of visibly dealing with planetary threats. Killing him off 2 movies in just tells me they had no idea how to really handle him over a combined movie universe.
@@dbstewart86 it’s a different take from the original and back then Snyder had no plans of building a universe, so the story he was telling was far different from the comics but takes inspiration from various stories however.
I love how this film is becoming a cult classic; there isn't any clip in which people aren't praising it, or defending it; like, there is very little to zero hate; like we all agree, it wasn't appreciated at the time of its release, but it is definitely very much appreciate it now! So awesome! for me Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill's superman is the best one that there has ever been
That’s the way it was for The Man With No Name trilogy. People were skeptical about it at first, but over the decades, it’s one of the best Spaghetti Westerns EVER.
YES! Honestly I have been amazed it didn't get a better reception when it first came out. Tbh, I was working for Hans Zimmer when the film came out and even I thought the score was a little underwhelming ... but the more I listened to it, the more I sat in the atmosphere of this film and the quiet, inner strength Clark represents, the more I am convinced this and the Dark Knight are tied for best superhero film of all time.
"Welcome to the planet"..... The way Clark smiles is what made me realise the dual meaning.... and the continued music which concludes after that is epic... The best thing about the movie.. is this scene... Way to end it...
I still come back to this last scene to see kid Clark Kent with the cape. Every time I get a sense of something greater than myself. Every. Damn. Time. I know that this is all fictional, but whenever I see that small kid already preparing to be a superhero (even if he's just playing around) combined with Hans Zimmer's amazing soundtrack, it gives me the sense that we are all capable of much more than we think we are.
"Oh he saw it Clark, believe me..." this movie is so underrated its crazy. Also i love how Clark is riding a bike. A great way for him to explain why he doesn't drive a car to normal people.
You have to love how Lombard was ready to sacrifice his life to save Jenny just as she was about to get crushed.....and she still won't go to a basketball game with him.
"Ugh Man of Steel is not my Superman because he doesn't smile" * Movie literally ends with Superman smiling * Haters are idiotic. smh lol MoS was the best Superman movie to date, thank you Snyder.
There have been many Superman comics over the years where he rarely smiled. He doesn't have to wear a permanent smile in his face to be Superman. I think Zack Snyder understood Superman's character, emotions, and struggles better than people realized.
And they say why superman doesn’t smile all the time! Well, if you’re the last of your species and you lost both your parents and your adoptive father, please tell me how will you smile all the time
i'm not the biggest fan of this movie but the music and the whole thing with clark kent at the end really did it for me. "welcome to the planet", that good stuff right there.
Clark didn't know, but his father already saw what kind of a man he will be to the world. That he will be a hero with a cape whose gonna change the world. That scene was perfectly portrayed even with no dialogue.
That scene with young Klark was the first time Jon K saw Klark as a "hero" which is why he was so keen on protecting Klark until the time was right. I'm sorry but DCEU movies are deep and thematically great.
It's nice to see someone else who understands the depth of these movies. MoS has it's flaws but it was a beautiful movie if you really dig deeper into it.
This movie gets better each time you watch it. I saw it at the premier before the stupid loud crowds of today…hoping for the iconic Superman pose and little Clark does it. It was beyond perfect. Such a touch
I kinda wish they showed more of the “Man” part in “Superman.” Clark is a alien, whose the most human out of all of us. He’s chill, compassionate, and is just a great dude all around; I just wish they showed more of that side.
My parents were not even remotely interested in super hero movies even if they knew how iconic Superman is. Then I showed them this movie and this ending. They slunked into the sofa and actually wiped their tears.

In a way, that's how I got my wife into Star Trek. Her entire life she hated Star Trek. But when I took her to see Star Trek: Generations, she instantly converted.
If you don’t get those “GAH! GODDAMMIT THATS SO GOOD” goosebumps when Clark smiles before the title card and Zimmer’s new theme kicks in full gear, you’re a fool.
When I first saw this in theatre and saw what the audience/review reception it received. I said "Man Of Steel is ahead of its time" 6 years on and I was correct.
the scene of him as a kid with the beautiful music almost makes me cry. I like to think about how lucky he was to land in the yard of a small town farming couple. If he had been raised by anyone else think of how much of a different person he would have been. Small town farm life teaches you respect and hard, honest work without personal gain. If he had been raised by rich snobs in the city who knows what kind of superman he would be.
Zack Snyder - actions and cinematography Christoper Nolan - world building and story telling Hans Zimmer - composing and background themes All combine to make a masterpiece
His father seeing that moment was so beautiful. He realized that his son would one day want to help people and would be good at it. He was convinced that he would be something great. He saw it all on that day. His mother laughed it off but his father was envisioning his sons future.
One of the best parts about Man of Steel, was it's score. Let's not forget how freakin' awesome it was especially during "Superman" scenes. So dark, so heart drilling.
Now that we got Snyder's cut of Justice League, this scene now has a deeper meaning. "Guess I'll just have to trust you" makes Superman seem like he knows something about the general. Heh.
A MASTERPIECE OF A FILM. This movie is deep and has so much heart and meaning for a superhero film. Marvel can never ever make depict these types of film coz all they have are cringey jokes and unnecessary comedy.
Not All Sam Raimi's Spiderman Trilogy Is An Exception

And in addition, the Marvel comic superheroes are so campy and unbelievable. Captain America? Captain America would get their butt kicked faster than Superman taking off to fly somewhere. I'm surprised Marvel didn't make an Aquaman movie yet. I better keep my mouth shut before some Hollywood idiot decides to make a movie in that fashion.
I wonder who the people are that disliked it, and why... This one scene alone seems like a masterpiece. Of course the soundtrack and the general tone of the movie contribute immensely to the end result. That subtle look between Clarke’s adoptive parents after they see him in the cape makes me tear up every time, and I cannot explain why. I guess it’s that look of soft pride on the father’s face and the adoration in the mum’s smile that makes it so impactful. Great writing, direction, and execution there. I really wish Clarke had seen the look on his father’s face.
No other Superman movie has ever really gone into the relationship between Jonathan and Clark and saying why Clark needed to wait and Jonathan shows how much he loves and knew Clark was meant for so much more
Henry Shriber Dont worry. This movie has a good fanbase. It got an A- on cinemascore also Has made 115 million dollars just in bluray and dvd. Dont worry you are not alone. A lot of people like this film ✌
I saw this movie three times on opening weekend. Once on Friday night, its premiere, with my brother, again on Saturday night with my older sons, and then once again on Sunday - Father's Day - with all my boys. I have absolutely no regrets.
I remember first watching Man of steel and liking the movie at best. Over time and after several viewings I've grown to love the film and appreciate it for its themes and how the story was presented. I now see Man of steel as a masterpiece of the genre. Many superhero films have "fun" , "cool" or "stand out" moments, but I can't recall a superhero movie that presented so many "POWERFUL" moments throughout further highlighted by what I believe to be the best overall soundtrack ever put together for a superhero film.
I will say this is my favorite movie as of yet. I’m 39, it done well with little things that make moments of the movie so powerful and still like it could happen sort of
The flashbacks are fantastic and the backstory which highlights how painful it was for SM to adjust to the earths atmosphere as well as it’s often cruel people was brilliantly executed.
I LOVE how the General was like that was a 12 MILLION dollar piece of hardware, Superman's like it WAS and both of them just stare intensely for a couple dozen seconds.
Can we take a minute to appreciate Zimmer's composition? It illicits so much emotion in the flashback. Holy hell, I love this movie. It sucks that I have to say this is a "guilty pleasure" because of all the negative criticism this film received.
