The fact that Martha was able to point out several of Jonathan's rebellious days before Clark came along will always crack me up. John Schneider just fit that role.
You know I feel the same way too just like Clark because every time when I tried to do something right I always do something wrong, and those quotes prove to me that I'm always failing everything for myself because I'm a failure and I feel so guilty for that and it's all because I'm a coward.
@@luisdorado8562 that's because that's what you let yourself think once you stop it you will be proud of yourself that you get to help and you won't give up, and you need some confidence believe me I used to feel the same way but now I don't anymore and no matter how ungrateful a person can be towards me I help them. Just keep doing it no matter what and you will unlock confidence.
Jonathan is the one person that Clark truly wanted to be. He respected his father and has so many regrets about his death. They had a true father/son relationship and you can see the love they had for one another.
ROGUE 1701-D except he doesn’t anymore, reaching that point and accepting it wasn’t his fault was one of the most important lessons he learned in the series.
Well then you'd be happy to know that this version of Clark brought was able to bring peace to his Earth and had children with Lois and doesn't have powers anymore
He got better over time, but he was pretty bad in the first couple of seasons, and he's still nothing special. Not hating on him or Smallville because Tom is my favorite Clark Kent and I grew up watching Smallville so it will always have a special place in my heart as well, but let's not lie and say Tom Welling is such an amazing actor because he really isn't 😅
@@theunderdog9353 he is 100% horrible 😂😂 but no one really watched Smallville for the acting! He even admitted that he had 0 acting skills and was just hired to basically be there and show muscles. Also, he didn’t have a lot of lines vs other characters. But yeah, in that scene, he is 100% horrible 😂 Also, dead people can apparently grow some hair!
Jonathan and Martha Kent are the reason Clark becomes the man he does. They're the reason Superman is Superman. John Schneider is the perfect Jonathan Kent and perfectly shows why he represent everything Clark aspired to be
That true without Martha and Jonathan Kent Clark wouldn't be who he is now he got all the goodness from them they raised him into an amazing man and superhero they should be proud
The think I don't think people understand is that in Smallville, Clark was Superman all along, he just didn't have a suit. The suit is not what makes him Superman. It never was what made him Superman. It was never even the powers. What makes Clark Kent Superman is what he believes in and fights for, and stands for. It's what he believes to be right and fair, what he does for Earth.
This scene and many others in this show proves Smallville got the character of Superman right. It's the humanity in Superman that makes him relatable and the reason we as fans like him so much. And these emotional scenes with Clark get me all the time.
Seeing John Schiender as Jonathan Kent for the first time since season 5 doing his work on the farm and giving Clark his classic father to son advice was like he never left the show at all, it was so great to have him back on Smallville for the final season and he was truly missed.
I've seen so many versions of Superman in another movies but the best interpretation of "Jonathan Kent" was made by John Schneider.I think he had something special, different and heart touching in the way he speaks and acts.Whe I saw the episode where he dies,I almost cried. 👍👍
OMG, Yes! I couldn’t put my finger on it. It was like Clark but different, but, you’re right, it’s CK growing into his earthly father. Ugh. Now I’m having all the feels again. Thanks for pointing this detail out.
"You could be the greatest hero the world has ever known". I knew it! Smallville's Jonathan did say something similar to Man of Steel's Jonathan. "You just have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be, Clark. Whoever that man is, is gonna change the world".
You know when Jonathan said those words or quotes even I told myself that I wish I was a hero too that way I can be the greatest hero the world has ever known and I wish I was that man that can change the world, and for me to prove that I can be the only person that can make all the difference.
Smallville was my brother's favorite show because he was a huge of Superman, and the first time when I saw this show I was beginning to like it because it's just like watching a Superman show and it's also showing us of how Clark Kent will become Superman.
"We're all confronted with trials, but the true measure of a man is how he chooses to react in the face of those trials." That's true. It's important to remember that before reacting that every action or reaction has consequences. That's why it is so important, especially now more than ever, to THINK prior to doing. Never just act or react. ALWAYS THINK FIRST. What you do will dictate the course of your life, and will affect those around you, either for good or bad.
I love it, after the wisdom Johnathan Kent gave Clark, The next scene goes to the fortress and showing the iconic superman suit with the heroic music this showing that Jor-El hasn't given up on Clark either and is waiting for him to be ready . truly epic
Yeah. Jor-El acts like a dick at first but we find out later that it was simply because he knew Clark was nearly ready to be Superman and finally fly, but knew the danger that Darkseid posed to all that and that Darkseid could exploit Clark's dark choices. Clark had to know that the edge he flirted with in S9 was going to now get people killed. Clark had to hit the proverbial rock bottom to build himself back the right way. Hence in 10x02, he ditches the black for the red and blues again and finally succeeding enough to where Darkseid physically attacks him and this allows Clark to finally reach full power
Jonathan Kent was always my favorite thing to come out of Smallville, one of the best television dads in my opinion. John Schneider did a terrific job capturing his stubborn idealism that complimented his wise and fatherly love. Kevin Costner couldn’t hold a candle to him. Whenever they do the next Superman movie I hope they cast him again to play an older Jonathan
You must be disappointed. I haven't grown into the man that you wanted to be. You're right. You're better. I'm proud of you son. 😢😢😢😢😢😢 So many great lines and LESSONS in this scene.
I love this version of Jonathan and Clark. As a Superman fan overall and someone that watched this series from its debut to its finale, it was this kind of guidance that made you believe Tom Welling's version EARNED the title of Superman. It was never the powers that made Superman the greatest. It was the man under the cape, and in turn, the people that raised him.
John Schneider gave some of the best acting ive ever seen throughout this whole series. The atmosphere he set was always on point and didnt feel lame or overdone whatsoever.
SMALLVILLE: "You just have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be, Clark. Whoever that man is, is gonna change the world" CRISIS: Gives Up powers and becomes an amazing father and husband like his own father, epic!
Me. I didn't watch Crisis, just the clip about Smallville. They completely screwed this up. The all point of Smallville was about Clark becoming Superman. What was the point of take the bother and go through all sort of trial if eventually He would have give up his powers? He could have done that long time ago couldn't He? The way they deal with Clark's powers doesn't make sense : He can't just lose them like if they were to be magical properties. The fact that He lives on Earth, grants Him powers, which cannot be lost unless He moves to another solar system. Why is not kryptonite affecting Him? Powers or not powers He remains a kryptonian, therefore kryptonite should affect him physically.
Paolo Blake you forget that the Jor-El A.I. in the Fortress of Solitude, did took his powers at one point and gave it back to him when he was dying and there’s Blue Kryptonite. Also he didn’t lose them he gave them up and besides he’s been Superman for over maybe 10 years taking into account the time skip in the finale and the Season 11 comics.
Man, this show has a special place in my heart. Sometimes It gave me inspiration in its own way, sometimes encouragement, sometimes a realization that its okay to feel out of place. To always remember that there is a way to rise up and deal with it. It made me relate to Clark in a lot of ways and made me appreciate the show so much more!
My dad died when i was only a 5 year old kid, this scene from smallville means so much to me that i can't even explain, when clark sees the ghost of his dead father, and specially when clark says to his dead father, sometimes i think it would've been easier if you were here, i literally cried, smallville will always have a special place in my heart.
My Bampi died when I was 10, I'm now 34. Clark's reaction when saying "I've missed you." is exactly what I would be like if I saw him again, and I can hear him saying to me now "I never stopped watching out for you boyo."
John Schneider made the "PERFECT, Jonathan Kent", to "Tom Welling's Clark Kent!". He was that Dad that, no matter how many times we screw up. He never looked down upon you, and never stopped being Proud of you! He loved you "UNCONDITIONALLY!" That's all any child could ever ask from a Father! Yes, We're going to make mistakes and stumble and fail or fall. But don't ever stop loving us, and don't ever stop being Proud of us! #ImnotCryingYoureCrying
Far better lines and acting than Kevin Costner's Man of Steel and BvS portrial of Jonathan Kent, this Jonathan Kent does really seem to implement full influence into the Superman-To-be morale.
For the amount of time the Costner portrayal had , it was more deeper and effective ...most people are too busy criticizing to actually see the mountian top scene was a homage to the Smallville scene..Snyder gave us a Superman that's purist to original lore ever put on screen ~
Costner Jonathan Kent was terrible.... no depth and not effective at all, his Jonathan portrayed the type of father that wanted to hold his son back from the man he could be or become.... Didn't want Clark to embrace his destiny. Jonathan from Smallville was protective but embraced his son and the man he would eventually become... Costner's Jonathan was the father nobody wanted, would tell you what you should do with your life and who you should be.... Smallville's Jonathan was the father that wanted his son to be the man he wanted to become in life, and would support him and give him the strength to become that man.
Clark: Hey Dad Jonathan: I saved my farm from the storm, and then celebrated with cake. Clark: Okay... I guess that's coo- Jonathan: I drowned horses, bye. Clark: Wut?
@@dannyhuskerjay Which comic???...If you mean the Superman under his creators that joyfully killed and tortured humans..no..Snyder's Superman isn't like him at all.
I lost my dad from Covid. He was Rock & World. I felt this deeply i can relate.. watching clark and Johnathan scenes over & over i feel as my dad watching over me and felt his presence.
No decision in life is perfect. My father had his moments of anger and so have I, but that just means we have to stay in control as best we can. Actions have consequences.
This is the Jonathan Kent that should have been portrayed in the movie of Henry Carvill. Not an man who was too afraid of what people might think of his son.
Did you not watch the seasons prior this moment cause that's exactly what this version of Jonathan kent was from season 1-5. He almost killed multiple people cause he was afraid of people knowing who clark was. Try again.
They're literally the same lol. Both versions had ideals they wanted their son to live up to but also realized that they had to make their own choices. Both gave up their lives to protect Clark's secret, and both died because they believed the world wasn't ready for Clark.
Seeing this scenes resemble me how much Snyder took inspiration on Smallville. A strong and sometimes tempestuous conection with father and son. A JK who has serious issues with Clark using his powers and exposing himself to the world. Even the final scene when Jonathan and Jor-El talks to Clark are represented on ZS Justice League... The fantastic "Fly, son... It's time." With all the issues Smalville was a beautifull series and a great homage to the hero.
I feel like jor el knew exactly what he was doing at this point in criticising Clark and pushing him away in order to get Jonathan to guide him back on track, you can see Jonathan echoes jor el quite a bit more here than he'd done when he was alive....
Exactly! I said it would happen as soon as I heard he shot one day! It ruined everything about smallville plus the blue watch thing is just wild speculation
@@Rojata19 But its not. In season 7 he met another Kryptonian who didn't have powers. And clark said word for word "You gave up your powers for your family" and he was wearing a blue k bracelet. And his watch in crisis was blue. IDK people seem to think that means nothing. It makes perfect sense. And honestly it doesn't ruin smallville at all. Clark was always wanting to have a family. He was always worried about not having kids. Not being able to raise them the way the Kents raised him. Lois even mentioned having kids with him. Maybe their kids will have powers, maybe clark only uses blue k at home, maybe he lied to that lex, maybe he told the truth... we honestly don't know.
Why is it that, I wished that I could’ve had a moment like this. With my Mom, before she passed away back in 2015. Or after she passed away, in a Dream. Yes my mom was tough on me. But I feel as if, I never got that moment, to hear her say. "I'm PROUD of you son, for you just being you!" I loved her so much! And when she was in her final days. We had a moment where, I saw her in pain, and she saw me upset. She turned off her pain to ask me, "What's wrong with you Chris?" And all I could say was, "Nothing's wrong mom....No, don't tell me Nothing's wrong. What's wrong with you boy? Me: Momma, if I ever hurt you?...I'm sorry...I'm sorry! Momma: Baby, we do the Best that we can to raise people." After hearing her say that, I got up. Went over to her hospital bed, hugged her. And cried over her, 5 seconds later I hear: "Alright now, go fix ya face. Me: OK." Grabbed some paper towels, and cried into them. Them heard her call on my uncle, who'd passed away 12 years earlier. And ask him, "Why can't you help me on that side?" I had to leave out the room, and go smoke a cigarette and cry some more. I couldn't stand seeing her like that. And this all took place, years later, after I went to Afghanistan and Iraq. 😞😞😞😔😔😔😢😢😢😭😭😭
This is a Clark Kent that learned how to be human from a father that talked to him like a loving parent instead of a disappointed coach (looking DIRECTLY AT YOU MOS AND BvS)
