Saucony XU2 is one of those shoes that just felt instantly perfect on my feet. And they manage to be both protective and nimble. Too bad the XU3 has gotten so bulky. Guess I will be skipping that one. By the way, I agree with those complaining about the grip on wet rock. I ran a section with some wet bare rock in the XU2 last week, and I truly felt like Bambi on ice. It was far worse then I could have imagined, being used to running in VJ shoes. Using the VJ Irock+ in similar conditions a week later was a starkly different experience. Not even a hint of slippage.

Love my XU2s for dry trails. So comfortable, perform brilliantly. Anything wet, be it rock, trail or even tarmac and the outsole is awful. Slip way too easily. If conditions are at all damp I default to my Inov8 G270’s.

I have just bought a month ago a pair of Speadgoat 6. It is beautiful. I have a size larger than usual and it is perfect for trail running. I run a 24k and a 50k this month. On dry land no issues...perfect on grass, rocks, mud. At least for 50 k and several hours (I run slow) I had no problems, no sore feet, blisters, heel rubbing. So..I love the shoe. I even really have faith going fast on downhills.

I have been using the Saucony Xodus Ultra GTX for all of my races and have covered over 400km. It's perfect shoes except it slips on wet rocks and even normal roads when climbing. Since it's the only brand that's affordable, I can't complain much. I'm happy with it. 😊

Very much agree with you on the Saucony's when it comes to comfort, but the ride was just dull and unresponsive unfortunately. As I mentioned on your initial video of them, I did the spine in them, and they didn't perform well on any area of it unfortunately. Disappointed to say the least. A few fellow runners had the speedgoats and found them to be a tighter fit and not very responsive also compared to even the 4's. The Saucony's drain well, and they were quite breathable also.

I've followed you for a long time, and bought quite a few products on your recommendation. And I get it, this is 2024 and you survive on sponsorship. There are very very few in video sponsors I react to like this. I may not like a product personally, but it supports your channel, so ok. It's part of the system. But. AG1 is a scam. Plain and simple. It's one of the very few things out there that really taints my opinion of the person pushing it because it is such utter and complete snake oil- priced to match. I really hope you'll reconsider this particular partnership.

Ran in the original Xodus ultra and currently run in Speedgoat 5’s. Both good shoes, both toe boxes narrow so I now use the wide version of Speedgoat’s. Have a 100 later this year and have to make the 5’s last somehow as nervous about changing to the 6’s. Great review Loyd, nice detail.

Ex ultra three is the best trail running shoe that I’ve used over the past 13 years. Time will tell if it holds up. It provides good lockdown, which is most important, it’s a stable, safe platform, and I have no foot pain after very long runs.

Loyd, we love watching your videos and currently going through your back catalogue, especially the races. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Looking forward to watching you and Liga in France. As for the trainers, I love the Xodus v1; v2 was pretty good too. Your initial review of the Xodus Ultra 3 - not a good update to the shoe - influenced me to buy another pair of the v1s (can still get them!). SGs are too narrow for me in the toebox, even in the wide version. Side note: I do not know why some of your viewers feel the need to comment on sponsorships you have, not just on this vid but other recent vids too. I do not see any other such comments on other RU-vid vids I watch (e.g. Jeff Pelletier). I want more of these vids from you and Liga, and basic economics suggest you need some money to do so. Further, you only endorse those products you actually use or have used previously, and think are worth the investment. I think people should try it for themselves first and not be put off by other online vids showing a negative side of AG1, which are 'just for clicks' anyway since AG1 is a popular product (for a reason!). I personally use AG1 and I find it sets me up well for day. Have also used it when travelling, which is handy when I can't get some healthy food! Good for recovery also.

The XU1 was great, and lasted me about 800km. I usually get about a 1000km out of my shoes. The XU2 felt great too, but I completely destroyed the upper and the outsole in less than 300km. I see what you mean about the XU3. Not as bouncy, but still comfortable. And for me, the extra midsole and the rock-plate makes running over rocky terrain feel like clouds. But my biggest ask, is simply that they last for more than 800k’s. 😅 Thanks Lloyd. Love the channel.

Hello, I very much agree to your assessment. I have quite a bit more love for the Xodus Ultra 3 than many other reviewers, it is simply a different shoe, much wider platform and snap and agility got lost, but it is definitely a comfortable and, for races and performance oriented runners, also somewhat slower ride. I love the upper though and the colorway, while the latest Speedgoat 6 makes it even harder for me to find one I like than the Speedgoat 5. They dialed back the elf heel, no longer flaring as extremely as the 5, but heard lots of complaints about harder foam and also a very dense and not so breathable, warm upper. The Saucony upper for the Xodus 3 is perhaps the best yet, it is highly breathable and feels nice. But it is also a very different shoe to the XU2. I don't know which shoe is meant to fill that place in Saucony's lineup of shoes. There is also the issue of consistency, while their sizing is consistent, the Xodus line is in constant flux since model 1. What will we get for version 4? I still like their dual foam combo a lot, though. It is soft and durable, my Brooks Caldera 6 is very soft but boy, did dead branches on the ground a number on it, looked quite banged up days within use. Same for my Hokas, but the Xodus thing with the firmer mantle and cushion inside, that works out nicely. P.S. still have my XU2 in use, I managed not to tear up the upper yet...^^

I think durability is a big issue with XU2. After less then 200 km i had holes on the inside of the heel pocket and the outsole was showing a lot of wear as well. After 450 km the outsole lugs was almost gone and I retired the shoes. I can accept getting 600 km from a shoe but 450 is way to little. I was surpised as I still use my Xoudus 10 after more then 1000 km.

It might be only me, but on the exodus I thought version one was great. I wasn’t a real fan of version two for some reason and I did not like it had a demo day person three the speed goes six I guess I’ve always had a hate relationship with the speed go, I didn’t think it was too stable. I had tired legs and didn’t think it was stable. I said the back, but I guess everybody needs to run and what they’re comfortable with that I don’t know they’re either too narrow and high, which made me feel really uncomfortable now. The Exodus ultra original was fabulous. I just picked up a used beer on eBay. They said they were like no, but maybe the Cushing was getting old and it didn’t feel as good but yeah, that was a great shoe.

Speedgoat 6 has been a massive disappointment. The SG5 was a great fit for my feet but the changes they've made just make them too narrow. I already needed to size up (a full size already because they don't do half sizes in my size) so sizing up again isn't an option. Real shame

Loved the Ultra 1, great fit and performance, probably my favorite all time trail shoe. The 2nd version fell apart after 100 miles both the midsole/outsole and the upper. Tried the Ultra 3 on and it was underwhelming for me, totally different shoe now. I chose the Asics Trabuco Max 3 over it (happy so far with this shoe). I have had major issues with Saucony's PWR Trac outsole. It just chunks off, even on mild, less technical terrain, not a fan of it what so ever.

@Run4Adventure

I’d personally say, if you didn’t get on with the original Xodus ultra I wouldn’t bother with the Xodus Ultra 2 either. There really isn’t a lot of difference with the upper fit and the midsole is exactly the same so you’d probably find it unstable again 👍 Hope this helps 🙂
