Quite a few people have asked for more information on how I converted an old Graham Farish Poole era class 08 shunter to DCC, so here is a short video showing how its done.
Note that the later Bachman tooling uses a can motor so conversion is a lot simpler. With these older models under DC they use the metal chassis as one side of the motor feed. In order to isolate this you need to insulate one of the brass brush holders. After that it's plane sailing...
It was quite challenging filming the conversion, and whilst this video is only 10 minutes long, in reality it was a good evenings work - the number of times I dropped the brushes or springs before they actually went in the holders !!
It's a tight fit or the Lenz silver mini decoder, but once shrink wrapped it slotted in the gap at the rear of the loco without any wires showing.
