58037, my favourite loco! Named after my old haunt where I used to watch the 58s (and occasionally other visiting locos and the ever-busy Class 08s) after school behind the Tesco before my family moved south. I have such fond memories of the class and that depot.

I remember the 58's around Clay Cross working the M.G.R's in Railfreight Grey but sadly I didn't see much of them apart from when they were stored at Eastleigh being repaired for export over to France & Spain. But I also remember 58002, 58024, 58037 at Eastleigh being just body-shells... I really do wish that they would bring back the 58's from abroad back into the UK...

58's used to work the 'draggings' from New Street to Coventry via Nuneaton when there were Sunday engineering works in the mid to late 80s.

I was a regular at Nuneaton station during the 80's and I remember that too. Drag days were always entertaining. The 58's were regulars on coal there, but would also show up up on air-braked engineering jobs such as CWR trains.

Remember a lot of them and no yellow lines to keep the enthusiasts back. Cheers

One of very few good-looking UK diesels. Honked the horn of one of the first at Wolverton Works Open Day circa 1984... Why were they got rid of quite quickly?

Will we ever see one on a Railtour?

''One of very few good-looking UK diesels.'' Apart from Warships, Westerns, Deltics, 20s, 33s, 37s, 47s, 56s, and 43s...

@@MontyCantsin5 😊 Westerns are fine lookers but 24s look like warthogs but with a fabulous snorting exhaust beat.

The 58's and 60's could have had a very successful career if EWS didn't phase them out with 66's.

I believe maintenance costs were high too.
