Craig, I can’t believe you are not an authority on the Vauxhall Firenza cars! Based on the famous Vivas, They are ultra British and the main competitor to the escorts back in the sixties and early seventies in the Touring class races. Engines ranged right up to the superb 2300 straight six motor and were considered by most as “a bit more glamorous” than the Escorts. I think Gerry Marshall drove one very successfully but I’ll be corrected on that…( your a bit too young so I’ll let you off this time ha ha!)😊
🤣 yeah I should have known this info Phil, but I’ve just never seen one at a show or on the road before. I could very well believe they were a competitor to the escorts. They are a stunning looking car. Don’t know where it all went wrong today. Cars of today are mostly oversized and ugly in my opinion.
I always preferred the classic show over the New up and coming . Just to make you smile my old firm Big Bus Tours london at their anniversary had one of our brand new 300k tri axle low floor Volvos and the first bus ever owned by the firm on show outside the entrance , with all mechanical body and parts being sourced "In House " the owner Des Maybury was told not to go over 75k to make it roadworthy and look good ,rumour around the yard was he'd done double that . And that Peaky Blinder Escort paint job looked like fluid .Another great vid Craig
The Vauxhall was lovely but the show stopper for me was the wee orange mk 2 escort ,the lime green one was smart aswell but ah adored the orange one. The GT mini was lovely tae n brought back some good memories of my first car ,I wish the one I had was as half as nice n that 30 years on I still had the thing it was a total bucket but ah loved it to bits
A local Guy where i grew up in NW Ireland - Donegal, had a Firenza in the 70's. It was white with a set of Cragar S/S 5 spoke chrome wheels, it had the same front spoiler but he removed the front bumper and number plate - not sure how he got away with that but the car looked so much better - Such a neat looking car then and still looks great today - Thanks for the video.
I had a metallic Blue with blue vinyl roof and blue vinyl interior 2300 SL back in the late 80's early 90's. It was great fun. In South Africa they built these with a small block V8 i believe
I think the britts are starting to catch up Shane. There’s just not as much money in restoration / customising industry in Britain. Its big business in America
I'm with you that vauxhall ferenza is amazing I would love to have seen it in the colour of that step side pick up the vauxhall ferenzer was a UK car but there are very few left great content nice one
@@performanceclassics1986 Seen a few about over the years, they look like a Capri/escort cross, good looking cars but were saddled with reliability problems and never had the following rally winning Escorts commanded.
That vauxhall Feraya? Never heard of them but totally agree because Im watching this video solely on the thumbnail i thought it was a viva. Learned something new to. Beautiful motor the paintwork is first class.
Show looked great and love the commentary Yes chargers are big but love the fords had many escorts mk1,2,4,5 capris mk 2,3 cortina 3,4 and a few Sierra would love a XR4 or RS500
The Firenza Droop Snoot was a great car I once owned the infamous Stuart Halls Firenza long before his notoriety came to light I regretted selling it to this day
Great show mate both your mini and the mk1 would stand out at that show as the work you do on your builds is fantastic, did you document the mini build on youtube? wish you all the best
Thanks very much mark. Unfortunately I never documented the mini. Only have non digital photographs of the mini build. Long before I started you tube. Finished the mini build in 2008
@@Adam151082 that would be awesome Adam. I’d deffo be up for that👍. It should be on the road for the early summer months so we can sort something out Adam. Thanks for the msg 👍
Lovely video! Glad you got to see the RS2000 we did the bodywork on @09:30. Have a look at our RS2000 playlist to see what went into it. Subscribed and checking out the playlists 👍😁
Ive just subscribed to your Chanel just earlier this week and have been watching your progress with the small rust repair sections. Stunning work. Car is absolutely stunning 👍
The Vauxhall ferenza, was also sold as a Chevrolet Can Am came with a 302 motor originally, I agree stunning car. People removed the 302 and fitted 350 motors. Personally mess them up but this was due to part scarcity of 302 motor spares.
@@performanceclassics1986 Hi there really enjoyed the vid. As a South African living in Chile mostly youtube I watch. Now then I was a lucky man to own one of those beauties the chev an am. Limited edition was built for the racetrack to outperform the ford capri peranna that just about owned the track in SA in the 70s era. It was the brainchild of a Basil van Rooyen that built the car and then got chev to sponsor him. A limited amount were sold to the public All matching numbers and I think there are two in England now. A few specs was that it was a crate engine imported from USA. Engine from the corvette 302. The engine was matched t a 4 speed manual muncie gearbox from borg warner. That engine was a good balance between revs and torque. 0 to 100 km 5.64 secs. The car was a monster and was forever leading and winning on the racetrack as well as won just about every rally it took part in. The can am was only produced in white with a black bonnet with square headlights. The only real weak spot was the front suspension was crap. Further than that a real pleasure to drive with having tons of fun. In race trim it was fitted with 335 13 inch tyres at the rear with 225 13 in front. I miss it but hell I am proud to have owned one. This vid was very nostalgic to me as I owned a couple of cars here. An escourt 1600 sport my first car. A mini and a sierra. Thanks mate stay well.
I would like to attend Ian but will have to look into transporting it there. Not sure if I could manage 3 full days though and I would imagine that’s a requirement.
04:09, British car that for sure, sold in ZA under Chevrolet brand, could get them in all manner of versions, from 1200cc to a limited number of 5000cc can-am . Coupe's were 2.5liter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vauxhall_Firenza#:~:text=The%20Firenza%20is%20a%20model,Chevrolet%201300%2F1900%20during%201975.
Why would I have heard of one?? They are as rare as hens teeth. Never seen a single 1 at the many many shows I’ve attended and I wasn’t even born when they were originally around.
