I just picked up some golden berries (called cape gooseberries), but now I believe they aren't the same thing... darn it...but I might try to make it anyway this weekend - will try making both Crème Fraîche and Crème Anglaise in advance of making this recipe.
@@AveryRaassen that is a great idea - will use your Green Gooseberry jam recipe (I even have a bottle of the exact same elderflower cordial arriving today) and replace with the golden berries. Then will share at the office this month with freshly baked breads.
Yes, what you've picked up are *physalis,* I'm afraid. I'm not sure that you'll get the fool result with them, but it'll still be quite pleasant I expect! Cape Goosberries are very expensive here in the UK (for not very many!) so I hope it didn't blow your budget... 🥴
@@Ron-Ayres Yes, I figured that out "eventually" 😉 - made golden berry jam instead and shared it at the office with Avery's Financier recipe. It is about the same price as blueberries (standard price, not sale price during the summer).
