Classic Game Room reviews EXCITEBIKE for Nintendo Entertainment System from 1985 (released in 1984 for the Famicom in Japan.) Excitebike is an awesome, fun and addictive side scrolling racing game for NES and Gameboy. The NES version has full color gameplay and has a rad level design system where you can create your own Excitebike race tracks. Excite Bike gameplay is fast and simple yet remarkably challenging. You have to master when to accelerate, tilt your bike and jump all the while dodging enemy riders who will knock you off your motorcycle. Dirt bike racing on the NES has never been so rad. This was my favourite game. I loved to play it. I especially loved to make my bikes rear wheel collide with the other racers front wheel and make them fall. LOL. Really brings back memories. :-)

This is one of the few videos you've done on a game that I actually remember playing! I think one of the most nostalgic things about these games is definitely the sound generated from the bike itself and other miscellaneous things. Awesome.

Oh man... I played this game so much while in daycare. I remember beating the entire game (20 tracks forward and then backward), getting the best times on all of them, and making all the guys jealous. I have to get this game now!

I remember this game. It's one of the first console games I ever played. It was around 1995 -- so a while after its time. I was five, over at a friends house and my friend asked his dad if we could get the video games out, it probably belonged to his Dad. I couldn't believe how awesome this game was and that you could make your own tracks.

4:56 these were state of the art physics at the time. Not unrealistic at all, reality just worked differently back then.

I remember playing this game when i was like 4 or 5 years old brings good old memories. Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon all this good old games FTW

ExciteBike was ahead of it's time. It had awesome racing gameplay while featuring a track construction kit for creating your own custom tracks. Very, very unusual back in the day, particularly for a console... as Mark stated.

I LOVED playing this game, I always overheated the engine when I played. maybe i'll dig up my Jnes emulator and rom and play this. Also remember making an impossible course like you did here. I like the sound the game makes when you switch lanes.

A childhood friend of mine had this game for his Amstrad 464. I used to love it. There was also a slightly similar game only with a quad bike, but no idea the name of that one.

Really like the 3d edition for 3DS, same with Kid Icarus NES for 3DS. Used to have the Ecard reader version among other nes games in card form.

ExciteBike! One of the best games ever made and one of the first one y played on a Nintendo, I had my atari 2600 and when I played this one was like "Oh mi Gosh!" Super fun!

Sorry but Excitebike was never on Game Boy. The NES version was ported to the Game Boy Advance but that's it.

The track design and all that reminds me of Kikstart 2 on the C64 and Speccy. It's possible Excitebike "inspired" this game, though it did have 2 player split screen and a more hilarious rider-comes-off-the-bike animation (flipping through the air)

The Gameboy didn't actually have "Excitebike", but it had Motocross Maniacs, which was the same idea but a little crazier.

I used to play this game back then SO MUCH and to be honest, it's in my personal top 10 most entertaining NES games. But funny thing, when I played it as a kid I didn't even know what internet was, let alone thinking I'd be watching a review about it on some video sharing site. How fast things change these days *sigh*

Yes, the true joy of Excitebike was making torture courses. My favorite thing to do was just place a bunch of "R's" (I believe that's it, the giant mountainous obstacle) one after the other...after the other...after the other...forever. And also for fun you could place a whole bunch of arrows leading up to an H.

@BatoGamer It does work, but the cartridge had a limited save battery, so eventually it would corrupt or erase your saves at some point. However, if you play the VC or rom version, the save will work better.
