Classic Game Room - PICKAXE PETE review for Magnavox Odyssey 2

Man, I played this a lot when I was a kid. Awesome to see it again.

Yep. That was my game system when I was a kid. And Pickaxe Pete was my favorite game. There are different starter levels depending on the keyboard number you press to start it off with, and it gets progressively harder. Each new level has an extra hole in the floor, and when you get high enough, there are more holes than platforms. Also, the boulders become faster and bouncier with each level. I had a lot of fun with that game - 40 years ago.

I always loved the sound effects that come out of the Odyssey 2. The games also had some of the best cover art of all time.

I picked up an Odyssey 2 this fall for $20 and it had 20 or so games including this one. My 6 year old son LOVED it. Thanks, Mark, for the awesome review!

Oh my childhood memories here in Brazil playing Didi on my Philips Odyssey, that I still have with me and working :)

Brazilians goes crazy with Mark speaking "Didi na Mina Encatandata" . Barely could believe when I saw the Brazilien cover of the gave. Greeting from Brazil.

The people notice Didi always tells the same sad story about a little kid dying of starvation when he goes to charity events. We don't know if he was totally serious or if he is greatest troll ever. Anyways, it becomes a meme with remixes and all other things that comes along. Amazing. When I put my eyes on the video's cover I instantly thought "Hey! This guy looks a lot like Didi" and my mind blew out when the review started. In 80s and 90s in Brazil, a lot of ports cames out with famous carachters known of brazilians (Turma da Mônica/Monica's Gang, for example), specially for Master System and Mega Drive/Sega Drive. TecToy was an wonderful enterprise here in Brazil that still being a Sega's partner even now. They made a lot of localizations/translations of Sega's games. Phantasy Star was a JRPG available to be played in portuguese since he was released. As a Ceara's man (state/province where Didi was born) and old gamer, I'm really impressed with this video. Congratulations and prosperity to your channel, man. ^^

The Odyssey 2 was my first game system and I got because of Pick Axe Pete. I still have my system and the game for it. Your review takes me back to Christmas in 1982.

Oooooh dear lord, this game!!! This was my first flirting with videogames; I think it was 1986. My brother convinced his friend to lend him the Odyssey, along with some games like Golf, Outlaw, Cosmic Conflict and this one. So basically, thanks to this little game I love videogames and still play them today.

Great game! My Mom bought the Odyssey 2 system for my sisters and me when we were young teens, but she got so addicted to playing Pickaxe Pete that we rarely got to use it. 😁

I loved this game as a kid. Odyssey 2 was awesome.

This is one of the best Odyssey/Videopac games. This game has also a G7400 plus version with a coloured background screen.

Awesome. Next you should review the brazilian adaptation of Wonder Boy in Monster Land, that here was known as Mônica no Castelo do Dragão for the Sega Master System. It replaced the original character sprites with Monica's Gang characters, taken from a famous comic book here in Brazil. And you should also review Brazilytron, the Sega Mega Drive adaptation of Truxton. Your ship shoots banana lasers and the soundtrack consists of samba and bossa nova. Oh, wait. There's no such thing, unfortunately.

I vaguely remember playing this. Which is weird as I don't remember playing on any console this was out. Perhaps I played a DOS/PC Booter clone or something.

Thanks again for another great video. I've had my Odyssey 2 since 1983, and Pick Axe Pete is still a fun game to play, as well as both K.C. games. Great system, and it's great to create your own mazes on K.C. also. Keep it up, and happy gaming !
