Rage review part 1 of 2. Classic Game Room reviews RAGE for Xbox 360 from id and Bethesda Software (also available for Playstation 3 PS3 and PC). This CGR Rage video review has gameplay from Rage on Xbox 360 showing Rage HD game play first person shooter action. From the ds Software, the makers of Doom and Quake and Bethesda, publishers of Fallout New Vegas comes an FPS mixed with a vehicular combat driving game that takes place in an adventure RPG wasteland of future Earth! CGR Rage video review features Rage driving and racing as well as Rage shooter game play that demonstrates how smoothly Rage runs (at least on Xbox 360). Multiplayer racing events and cooperative shooter missions complete the package and offer new levels of challenge and repeat gameplay.

i tried playing it but between the texture loading issues and feeling like i'd already played it when i played fallout 3 and borderlands, i returned it

im halfway through this game and love it so far no gameplay complaints. my biggest gripe is there is no dotted white line while in a mission area. they are pretty straight forward but if i get turned around while searching i end up wondering around for 10 minutes trying to find where to go. maybe im spoiled though cause the last few games had this feature. graphics,gameplay,story all great though

CGR have better reviews than IGN, Gametrailers etc. because Mark focuses on whats fun in the game, not the minor bugs and so on. (plus he uses irony and old school games references that makes reviews so much funnier) Mark is the ultimate gamer, thank you Mark :)

Many people didn't like this game and the reviewers panned it for the most part. I thought it was stunning on the PS3 and the fantastic controls, and smooth animation coupled with challenging AI made this a great game. Also, I remember parts of it were pretty darn tough.

@topografer By the way do we have any feedback on ps3 version? Does it run in 60 fps too, cause i can tell, even from the video, that the game runs like butter

@jay270486 simple answer would be developers make the game, publishers do the finishing touches that allows it to be distributed.

outstanding review It's nice to hear that it plays more like Bioshock than Fallout 3. I wouldn't have expected that. Most Website reviews are amazingly tedious so I'm glad when you do these.

@halo6534 I was aiming on the old vs new IP idea. Doom 3 wasn't saved by the "old IP", actually it was dragged down by this and it's own weight. Yes, it's more easy to come with sequels to be more successful now days, some publishers making very annoying sequels with no real connection with predecessor titles (Far Cry 2, Need for Speed Shift...). But there is no guarantee that the old IP will be successful one, it could be it's own enemy like happened to Doom 3. Doom 4? Tradition or innovation?

How did you get the video so smooth? I know the game runs at 60fps but you can actually tell it's higher than 30fps in this video. Every major video review I've seen of this game, you can't tell that it ISN'T 30fps

Just got the 360 version, it's an impressive piece of software to say the least. I'm amazed at the quality of the visuals while maintaining a rock-solid framerate. Pretty impressive given the fact that the 360 is in the seventh year of it's life-cycle.

This is one of the only games i have played where the environment is believable. The graphics just work so perfectly, its really an amazing experience. I find myself sightseeing more then doing missions.

The atmosphere and feeling created in the Dead City central part is awesome. Feels much more "post-apocalyptic" than anything in Fallout.

I think people were expecting an epic fallout-esque game back when this was released, when really it's just a more linear, insanely fun shooter. When you look at it that way, it's a great game.

the reason this runs so well and still looks amazing is because John Carmack absolutely LOVES to show off his programming skills! that's why id has been leading in the engine technology in 90s ... wolf 3D was stunning, doom was stunning, quake was stunning, doom 3 was stunning, from a graphical perspective.. though rage falls a little shorter than previous considering BF3....

started to play this game last week. Can't get enough of it, fantastic game. I tried to play Fall Out, not enough action by a long shot. This game is makeing my jaw drop.

@VonSeux Yeah, that's really bad. I think most reviewers will make the graphics problems look permanent. A few patches and updates and the game will run just fine. I mean, it runs fine on the consoles right? Then it should be of no problem to optimize it greatly for the PC.

@Inecomcompany The xbox and PS3 don't run hardly any games at native 1080p or 1080i so why did record in 1080i? I think in the future your quality would be better if you recorded in 720p and rendered in 1080p.

@fsws01 at the first place you go to in the game (where the guy who save you takes you) and look around there for a girl leaning against a rail and talk to her and she tells you to do a mini game where you throw the wing sticks (boomerangs) and if you finish the mini game she gives you 5 wingsticks and from then on you can buy or create more sticks.

@VonSeux Yes, they sure did screw it up on the PC. Some people can't even get the game to work, others report severe framerate issues and some get constant texture glitches. And I've heard that you can't even adjust your graphic settings so far... I already ordered the Ps3 copy of the game so I sure hope that I won't have problems like that.

I love this game, good introduction to a new franchise....could lead to an open world in the future. I only say that since Bethesda has a lot of experience in RPG and open-world games. To me this game was a test to try and blend Id and Bethesda slowly...and see what we think.

@bigasmith23 You change discs once in a 10-12 hour game, from disc 1 to disc 2. Is it that hard to do? I have a 360 and PS3 and rather deal with changing discs for one or two games than the PS3's pathetic slow updates and installs for everything...even demos.

imo it was definitely worth the hype. :) This is the first time I've seen id try something different this time by leaving all that traditional corridor FPS gameplay for something more open. It also gives me a lot of opportunities to play the game since there's so much stuff to do. :p But unlike Fallout 3 or Borderlands it focuses mainly on the action and not the RPG mechanic. So I think it's more intense than Fallout or Borderlands imo and I've played both games at least. :p

@ImSmarterThanYou101 we'll just have to wait and see...but I think chances are it's real since Sony has been releasing HD updates for Sly, Ico and Shadow of Colossus so it wouldn't surprise me if they would follow suit with Jak and Daxter HD collections.

@topografer Just today? I guess the only other difference between the X360 and PS3 versions is that the game is all on 1 disc for PS3, so you don't have to swap.

Looks like I can wait on this one, I'll have myself a lot of fun when it finally gets down to 25 bucks somewhere. Arkham City still looks like it will be the only game I'll shell out 60 bucks for upon release.

I wasn't too sure about this game at first, thought it looked like another Fallout 3 rip off but i tried it round a mates house and it is an excellent game. Some of the most satisfying and hilarious shoot outs i've had in an FPS for ages and the driving is pretty much my Mad Max dreams come true. Wicked!

@xmaster117 Carmack said something about the bad drivers on pc. He has not the access he needs to make the technology work like it should, on the consoles however he has a better low level access to the hardware to work more efficiently.

In one of the games levels it has this sign that has two game names on it that say rage 2 and one of the other games they make. it was a new quake or a new doom game

If they put as much effort into the story line as they did with the technical aspects of rage, it would be on of the best games ever made in my opinion.

And to expand on my answer, yes, I am that good. 'That good' isn't exactly a monumental achievement though. Hell, I'm new to mouse and keyboard controls, and I can clear most levels without taking a melee hit. The aiming sensitivity is really perfect :) I guess that helps. I haven't tried with a controller yet... I'm usually more comfortable with one, but not for this game

@halo6534 What was innovative about wolfenstein and doom? Making fps-similar mechanics is one of the first things which are crossing your mind once you have entered 3D. If not ID then someone else would "invent" the fps-genre. It is a wrong assumption that their strong point was innovating gameplay. They have always kept it basic to the bones, but solid.

i think this game is great. It blends a bit of the old school (classic id software shooter gameplay) and a bit of the new school of gaming (to keep it up with the competition).
