I've had several versions of this dish and found it most agreeable every time. Great mix of the yoghurt mellowness and more zesty flavours of the spiced filling.
As a Greek I am happy that you made a video of one of our national dishes👌 Purists prepare Moussaká with aubergines only. We typically add dry white wine to the tomato sauce also and use butter rather than oil in the bechamel sauce. The Ottoman cuisine had an enormous influence on my country's cuisine by enriching it with spices such as cinnamon, cumin, chili, bay leaves and nutmeg. Great video🏆
Awesome execution! Indeed in the greek version of bechamel sauce olive oil is used that is in abundance in a land ragged and full of olive groves and few planes for cows to graze and produce milk. Butter is too expensive.
I make mine with butter not olive oil and oven cook the eggplant but will try the deep fry which saves time otherwise ingredients much the same. Thank you such a delicious meal.

Very nice - however, don’t know about the olive oil based béchamel/mornay, and tho I would not be opposed to trying it in lieu of butter. I do however prefer a lamb mince or 50/50 beef and lamb.

I give it to the Greeks on this one. I think this style is more tastier and has a better presentation than the Turkish version. This is my personal opinion.
I decided to cook this today. I will be using this recipe from now on (the only ingredient I don't use is potatoes - we don't eat them). Also, I didn't fry the eggplant, I cooked the slices in the oven. I found the balance of flavours excellent. Thanks again!

Sadly olive oil has become so expensive in Germany. The 500 ml for deep frying would be around 7 Euros alone. That makes this recipe way too expensive to even consider. :(
