Classic Hollywood - Beyond the Storybook

So here I am again, this time with another candid tribute to celebrate Classic Hollywood off the set. There's not much I love more than seeing candid footage of my favourite stars, it's just something about seeing them as themselves that just warms the heart. Again, this tribute contains all kinds of footage; home movies, newsreels etc everything but feature films. I hope you enjoy it. The song is Turn to Stone by Ingrid Michaelson.

@ToyKingWonder
@ToyKingWonder 4 года назад
No they didn't have class for a great part. Spencer Tracy was married and for decades fooled around with Katherine Hepburn, who was with him when he died and bugged out of the house so when his wife came over she would not be there. Liz Taylor snatched Debbie Reynolds' husband from her. Kirk Douglas was a notorious sleep-around, which makes the ridiculous "love letter" book with him and his wife sharing all their love letters even more outrageous and I wish TCM would stop hawking it. Grace Kelly could not get enough of being on her back with various co-stars, which sadly included Gary Cooper, who I had thought was such a good guy in real life. Sad. The only difference between then and now is they hid it better and dressed better. My dad told me when I was a kid that most of Hollywood is a bunch of losers. True then, true now.

That was just beautiful....absolutely beautiful. As always you remind me just how much I love classic Hollywood, and also how much I wish things would go back to how they were back then. Everytime I watch classic films, I get a warm, fuzzy feeling. Things had such a slow beauty back then...a subtle, but deep feeling of wholesome goodness that is so lacking nowadays. Thanks so much for making this! :)

What a wonderful salute! So glad these well known actors had happiness in their lives, what with all the weird and sinful demands of Hollywood back then. Also brings me to tears….these are the ones I remember seeing on screen in my much younger years. The ones I didn’t recognize I realized my parents had seen when they were younger; made me miss them all the more, as I’m getting in the last 1/3 (1/4?) stage of my life. Really getting melancholy !!! 😮😊

Garbo was also here at 3:20 (I think that was the counter number). She was playing with a toddler which was typical of her. She is also seen in the beginning (about a minute or so into this) with Mauritz Stiller being greeted in Hollywood when she first came to town. But yes, that color film of Garbo is astounding. All of these clips are a rarity. Lucille Ball was beautiful in the natural light. She never got credit for being so lovely. Thanks for posting this treasure. Cannot believe this!

Classic Hollywood--sooo glamorous. A very rare film of the young Garbo playing with a child. And as was often said, Laurence Olivier was much more handsome off screen and without make-up. Ditto William Holden. Claudette Colbert and Joan Bennett filmed ice skating were great friends and had lunch together once a week during their Hollywood heyday. Interesting clip of Carole Lombard directing (retake after retake) the iconic director Alfred Hitchcock's standard walk on during the filming of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" for a photo spread in LIFE Magazine. Great shot of beauty trio Joan Bennett, Joan Crawford, Hedy Lamar at a 1930s tennis match in Hollywood. The young lady Marlene Dietrich (shown throwing signed autographs) was embracing was her daughter Maria. --Dust to Dust: Only Olivia Havilland age 98 (holding baby ducks in lake & at the Hollywood Canteen), Maureen O'Hara age 94, Jane Powell and Debbie Reynolds are still living.
