First of a series of 'BITE-SIZE' Matchbox review short vids: A nostalgic look at a pristine example of a classic matchbox kit... For more similar content, see @Peter Oxley Thanks for watching!
Blimey, Peter, you are certainly bringing back memories with your Matchbox reviews. I remember building these kits with my dad who sadly passed away last year. Happy days from a nicer world.
The RAF bought P-38s before the superchargers and handed propellers that made it a winner were cleared for export - resulting in a bit of a dud. However RAF aircraft were called Lightning I , actually naming the aircraft, and they changed the 37mm Oldsmobile nose cannon with 15 rounds for a 20mm Hispano with 60 - a change incorporated by all subsequent versions.
I built this in the 80s. Very much wanted to do McGuire's version but hand painting silver in those days was always problematic. The olive drab version never had the same charisma although it was an easier finish to replicate. Love the video! Many thanks.
Another great reminisce, Peter. Many thanks. Yes, stands. Of course Airfix reintroduced stands (sold separately) some time later, including their classic design clear stand, but also useful posable black stands for up to 4 aircraft. I believe their 'dogfight double' range now include stands. Their 1/72 Concorde also had a huge stand included.
Really interesting and looking forward to getting this kit ( it wont be built) as i bought one after this review. I looked for the signature on the painting myself on the ebay one but nothing, however scale mates says Doug Post did the box art🤔 One orher thing, you instructions are virtually fully orange, mine have orange highlights, so maybe they decided to ave ink? Thanks for the memories 😊
Судя по возрасту автор видео модели собирает давно...Дай бог еще столько собирать.Единственный автор с такой богатой коллекцией моделей от ,,matchbox,,!!!
Matchbox and Airfix quit including display stands in late 1980's. Apparently most serious modelers were not using them. Stands are usually against rules in model contests. And back in the day we children used those models as toys so we did not need the stands either.
