man I remember when CSGO first came out and we were all excited that valve was giving us a much needed update. Now, years later, we have an out-of-date matchmaking system, broken anti-cheat measures, anti-toxicity measures that increase toxicity, and game changes that make the game shorter (harder to strategize and talk with teammates, but also less time to be toxic I guess...) valve needs a solid kick in the ass
@@fourze6113 valve has always been a privately owned company, unlike EA for example. EA needs to please their shareholders, and shareholders don't know anything about videogames or videogame communities, so lots of EA changes don't reflect what the community wants or needs (look at battlefield for example). Valve has never had this problem, so they've always been perceived as being better than a greedy publicly traded company like EA, but the state of their games and their lack of community support has started to speak against this. I'm not sure they've done anything for the community (excluding esports communities) since launching portal 2 honestly
@@akumati86 strange how endless effort from so many people just gets scrapped. maybe there was too much work and issues for it to be viable to begin with?
@@cate01a It's because they decided to mod a game that had very little modding support to begin with. The game also updated frequently and on top of that broke everything after every update. Outside of maps, Valve simply doesn't want you to mess with the game and wouldn't want to give support for something that might leech players from CSGO/CS2. It's always fascinating seeing talented people waste their time doing projects like these when they could have just made a counter strike clone in Unreal engine in less time with less restrictions while even having the possibility to monetize it.
@@boxenjoyerkona the mod itself isn't the reason for the viewcount this popular channel is he could make a video on anything and it'd get lots of views, it's dead because the playercount is really low which is a shame just stating facts
@@Name_cannot_be_blank not sure why you're taking such offense to this, i'm just saying that with CS2 coming soon it may cause some further difficulties with the mod. Hopefully they do pull through and manage to get this out cuz i love cs 1.6.
Recent news: on their twitter they have already said that they only have 2 options, either cancel the project or actually hack the game. No license access from valve, this is a shame.
Freaking lame. Valve's treatment of CS:CO, TF2C, and OF is really starting to get on my nerves. These mods could get a lot more done if they had proper source code access, but nope. I guess Valve sees them as competition, given that I don't believe in IP protection considering that they freaking allowed Hunt Down The Shovelware Modding Nightmare to be released officially on Steam...
They got the green light for the mod to be officially released on Steam but if they hack the game, they could only distribute it in their own sites (piracy). Illegal problems could come along the way as well.
Mad respect for Zool and everyone else who's worked on this project. Considering Valve allowed disasters like Hunt Down the Freeman on their platform, it would be absolutely insane for them to reject such a high effort.
its essentially different ideas, csco is completely based off csgo, while hdtf is a brand new game. where csco need csgo's source code to proceed the development, but valve did similar thing in 2020 and turned tf2 in to malware at the time which hackers can install virus to players's pc through tf2. and it left behind is limitless auto cheat bots.
@@chrisjuan9249 If you mean the remote code exploits they were just fearmongering. There was absolutely no proof of an exploit existing at that time bar some doctored screenshots. Also I think the bots would probablyl exist even without the source code.
I remember checking Classic Offensive in 2016 and was amazed on how Zool achieved the perfect blend of 1.6 and CSGO in this mod. Even before this, I always played (and still do) his Zombie Extermination mod for CS Source and it was so fun. Classic Offensive done the 1.6 remake right unlike CSPromod to which got abandoned and overshadowed when CSGO came out and it ceased further development in 2014. Zool is definitely the best modder for Counter-Strike, from his early work in CS Source to adding cut stuff to the game such as the C4 from the trailer or adding the MP5 before its official release for CSGO to pushing things hard for Classic Offensive and of course Noble Strike.
i remember how amazed i was back then just about the idea. I dislike csgo and cs2 not just because they got so far away from the feeling of the game, but the comunity is so bad due to cheats and tryhards,i cant wait for the salvation for a homepros like me to happen
Unfortunately, just today Valve modified their modding FAQ in response to Team Fortress 2 Classic and Open Fortress; outside of giving the middle finger to those two mods and saying that sourcemods can basically never be punished on Steam from here on out, they said they're basically never gonna give out licenses "outside of extraordinary circumstances". So there goes that.
for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Ephesians 4:12 kjv from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. Ephesians 4:16 kjv
Valve can be both so great to modders, hiring them in the past and allowing mods on the steam store, but then can also be lame about other mods like when they reached out to the team fortress fan projects open fortress and team fortress 2 classic suggesting they work together and then after they end up disabling their downloads they were ghosted by valve for months. Its almost as if after reaching out Valve realized how much effort they would have to put in and instead decided to do nothing. Its very disappointing for all the modders and fans involved. I hope that classic offensive can get access to the source code but recent events have me feeling very pessimistic.
And valve have just changed their faq about mods on steam seemingly blocking source code access except for what they've called "exceptional circumstances" vague as ever
@@jario9 I mean mods using leaked source code seems a bit shady, and for a game like CSGO with already a cheater problem, I feel a tf2-like source code leak will completely wreck the game
@@jario9 it probably has to do with the fact that someone also leaked tf2 & csgo source code which makes them more hostile towards the community. Always a few bad apples to ruin the fun for everybody as they say :/
@@jario9 This is quite true, however Valve are still a company at the end of the day and have to protect their product(s). The blocking of source code access is quite a logical decision on their part, after the whole TF2 source code leak. It can prove to be a huge economic and security threat if a games source code is just generally available.
That's exactly what they did lol. For a few years there valve was just sitting on their asses too scared to do anything in case it didn't live up to hype. They're slowly starting up again lately.
When I started modding for the first time, I used the ModDB version of CSCO as a base. My starting ground. I've learned lot and it was pretty easy to edit stats and everything when I started. Years later, I moved on to MIGI and here I am, making mods to this day for CSGO. I hope that CSCO will be finished someday and hopefully will be a starting ground for future modders to come.
as someone who played cs 1.6 a lot back in the old days and wasn't even slightly interested in cs:go. this gave me some hope, I hope this project succeeds.
yes it was a great time to play those faceit servers wish I still had the logs used to be top 15 in the world on storm the front. hate how they broke it with a random patch too
Thank you for making this video! Even though I had decided to move on from the project after working on de_inferno, I kept a close eye on its progress. It's beautiful to see how much heart was poured into the project by so many different and talented people. I really hope the current (and maybe future) team will be able to push through and get the game to where it should be. ZooL deserves it.
I make mods for Gmod and I can tell you the anxiety you get when releasing a mod is real. You only have a short period after you release it for it to gain traction, and if anything is wrong or broken much of that precious time could be lost fixing issues you overlooked. It's to the point where I have mods that are mostly complete that I'm afraid to release due to a few outlying issues that I don't know how to fix and would potentially get in the way of it being a good mod. I got alot of respect for him not quitting a pushing forward in spite of these setbacks and issues, it takes alot of grit and determination to stay in the ring and keep wrestling with the Source Spaghetti Monster, and it's so much greater when you come out on top in spite of his noodley appendages.
Woah! I along with Tanooki worked on the 2017 version of Dust 2 for CSCO. I never realized it actually made it into the mod! Super awesome to see the new more recent version, I was super proud of the work we did at the time. This mod really did grow up over this time.
I’ve been waiting since this was announced, this sounded so cool back then and sounds even cooler now. This is so fresh and the “base” game feels so stale for a while now. Zool and team, If you read this, KEEP GOING this will be a success and everyone that worked on it deserve it! ❤️
i remember hearing about this mod a few years ago and thinking it seemed really cool. if this mod was more popular i could definitely see it being my main way of playing counter strike
I *really* don't want this project to be doomed and be left to die out, or else I would say "All it took was a fucking source code leak to kill the momentum of an entire CS:GO mod. Truly incredible."
@@excitement4386 correct me if im wrong but anyone can use source engine to make a game? so hypothetically they could make their own game that feels similar to cs but isnt.
Make sure you are fully utilizing your time for what matters. Start spreading the gospel of Jesus. You can be stacking up treasure in heaven right now. The last 3000 years have been a testimony in favor of God's word. Look at how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is Rome, and how the Roman Catholic Church is the "mystery Babylon" religion (Paganism mixed with Judaism). From studying the Roman Empire we can conclude that A) God's word is true and that He can tell the future or make it happen, or B) The nations and governments have been conspiring together for the last 3000 years. Repent of your sins and call upon the name of Jesus today. Pray for God to intervene in your life and look for the motion of His hand. Belief alone in Messiah does not give you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36. If you have any questions about scripture feel free to ask me
Zool, please don't let this passion die. I regret not knowing this wonderful modded game sooner, this is like the perfect game for a 2000s kid like me.
as someone who plays cs since 1.0 / 2000 i can't stress enough how much this mod is needed. csgo feels so bland in comparison, everything is monetized and it's all about skins these days. i hate it. i really hope this mod catches on, thank you for covering it :)
I agree with that but times have changed. I'm not bond with monetization but that's how games and companies in general circle around. Valve will keep releasing more skins, agents, stickers and all sorts of virtual pixels because there's an already established market. They saw this opportunity and will carry on with it. They want income as pretty much anyone, you know.
The fuck does this even mean? "Everything is monetized, it's all about skins"??? I have never played CS:GO, but if you looked at literally any other shooter like CoD and Apex which I play, you would instantly realize CS:GO is barely about skins. It sounds like a you problem. Also "everything"? What is "everything" in CS:GO? Your skill isn't monetized. Your wins aren't monetized. Your rank level isn't monetized. Maps aren't monetized.
Saw fy_iceworld on the list, instantly flashbacked to childhood where I would spend literal hours playing on a map that's just 4 blocks of ice and a few small walls. Simpler times.
according to valve there are always ~30 people working on cs. did you ever notice them inside their own environment? why would they notice projects outside of their own game? they dont care about anything
Havana is the worst, I agree. I really hope that eventually some of the more interesting CSGO operation maps can be given a retro version. Like, what would seaside or downtown or ali look like in 1.6?
I'm someone who really struggles to get used to "new things" and whenever I see a mod or new version of CS it bothers me but Classic Offensive is different. I feel like it is the perfect mix of CS1.6 and GO. I really hope valve will give him a license and he can make the game many people dream about.
@@trolojolo6178 I played it til 2015 and made a cut (including a 39 minutes movie). The community was shrinking and after 25000 hours since 1999 I wanted to make a break. Started active with GO in 2017 then. Most of my friends played GO.
as someone who start playing 1.6 and css at 6 years old i love this i miss joining a server where you play casual with the same comunity like it used to be
Valve really should just bring Zool under their wing, like a kind of extended community branch of CS. That way they maintain the "control" which is likely stopping them.
I appreciate the gesture, but feel like it would be more worthwhile to support the creator of the mod instead to motivate and help release the project.
I've tried CS:CO a few years ago as a demo mod, and I enjoyed it. Nice to see Philip covering the mod as Zool and the team definitely deserved it. Hope one day it releases!
Ah... this reminds me of the times when game devs poured their minds and souls into their videogames and created such masterpieces that, back then, reinvented whole genres. Metal Gear Solid, Bioshock, Shadow of the Colossus, GTA San Andreas, Fallout New Vegas and much more. Zool is refreshing, he truly is. A developer who actually wants to ship a complete mod -although I'd say it's more than just a mod- in perfect conditions. I wish him and the team the best!
I remember when I played Classic Offensive on Faceit at some point. It was an awesome time and I thought it was pretty much finished even at that point. Amazing to see the work put into this mod and how far they've progressed. I really hope they get the support from valve that they need to get this up and running. Would be awesome to have a fun, less serious place to pop some heads and make new friends :)
Just as I finish watching this I see their tweet, pretty sad. "Following @valvesoftware 's update on modding and license access, it is now very clear that our only solutions are now either cancelling the project or hacking the core files on every security update in order to fix our mod-breaking issues."
Yep blame hunt down the freeman and the source code leaks of tf2 and csgo. Hunt down the freeman embarrassed the company and the source code leaks destroyed all trust in giving away the source code for multiplayer games. Doesn't help it proved a false narrative that the gaming industry has been pushing that mod developers cannot be trusted.
I’m super excited for this, CSGO is burning me out and I wanna get into this and hopefully it will have a big face it community for some fun games. Glad you covered it!
this is great! one of my the biggest reasons i dont like playing the old ones are the buy menu, sounds dumb but its really clunky to me despite beeing used to other weird old game mechanics and stuff. but yeah, good job and good luck to the developers!
There's something about this video that made me feel sort of sad. The points Zool pointed out, the need for a polished product at launch, the lack of ingenuity of people in modern day of gaming trying to solve a problem or expand what they like, and valve's rejection of other parts of the community that they deem I guess unworthy. Really goes to show how the culture of gaming has changed and as stated in the video, there's a lack of a growing community. While writing this comment a sudden sad thought came. More modern games are phasing out the tools that can easily create an organic community making people have to work harder to make these connections. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, that through all the smoke of my darkest days I had people that I was able to experiences things with. Didn't think I would get teary over a video about a mod that i played 5 years ago.
Valve ggive them a god damn license come on Gaben. This literely smells like Valve, this entire project is right up their alley. God damn, valve should just hire this entire team and let them do their job!
@@nikolasmtr True, but there are still many elements in Valve that would resonate well with the CO project. I hope Gaben wakes up and turns the ship around in time.
Good video, didn't know about this. There was also the CS Promod back in the day when 1.6 was kind of dying out but they didn't accept cs source so they wanted a mix between the two.
Things like this are the soul of counter strike and what makes the games so great for me. I'm thrilled to see this project getting more exposure, and I can't wait to see the awesome stuff this team creates. Thanks and glhf.
Stuff like this is what makes me so incredibly glad that TF2 Classic is possible because of the source code getting leaked. As much bad came out of it getting leaked we have incredible mods like that that the community can easily install and play.
Thank you for opening me up to this mod and showing it to so many people ! I cannot wait to see this out it’s exactly what I’ve always wanted :), wish the team good luck and would love to support them financially.
I know how hard these devs are working on this game but I would love to see how a this mod could bring to life some classic map from 1.6 . I always did love airstrip, it always seemed like I played only my best games on that map
I think the fact that I’ve never played CS or even watched anyone play it and I knew that this video was about CS just by the thumbnail is a testament to how absolutely massive this game is I know technically it’s CS:GO specifically that has a crazy amount of concurrent players, but still.
As a big fan of osrs and knowing how big classic wow has gotten, I can see classic cs absolutely popping off, if valve sponsors this (as they did with original cs) I can see a whole community exploding here! I never played css or 1.6 but i will definitely give this a go
There's something uplifting, yet sombre about this story. I also work very slowly on my projects, wanting them to be released in as perfect a state as possible before moving on to the next one. Since I actively choose to only work on solo projects, this works out great for me. But for Zool, where this project applies to other people? It's a bit sad that the likely, realistic outcome is that it won't get a license and even if it did, it likely wouldn't be very popular unfortunately. But regardless, the amount of work and effort Zool has put in to get around just about every single barrier he's run into is extremely impressive and totally reflective of how determined he is to see it succeed in his vision, and his stubbornness to defeat. I hope it succeeds, for his sake.
with all this effort i feel it wouldve been smarter to have just created a new csgo game, similar to the black mesa game which isnt made from valve, which is a remaster to one of the half life games
@@elliejohnson2786 idk man if anything modding the game would make it easy since everything is already coded for you and all the tools are done, its just a matter of yoinking and twisting it but they did the yoink and twist and even now they cant release it properly because of a corporation :/
@@homeyworkey Corporation stopping them is a more powerful force than literally making a game engine, especially with a team and dedication. So, idk man, modding the game makes it initially easy but harder in the long run unfortunately.
That is a really good way of looking at server browser, never thought of it that was but now I remember so many people from my CS source servers on crackhouse and gungame, etc.
Looks amazing, great to see something the mod community can work on. But I don't understand where the audience is expected to come from I want to play css: i play css, I want to play 1.6: i can play 1.6, I want to play csgo: i play csgo I want to play a modern 1.6: uhh this kinda? except all the maps will be remade. I like your idea of just dropping in the 1.6 maps and playing on that because frankly I don't see there being an audience for a 3rd flavor of CS. There is definitely a huge audience for replaying 1.6 incl. its maps on a modern engine
I love that they found perfect balance between old and new. Like the weapon models, the wallbangs. Just wish the Terrorists' color would be back to red.
Honestly, Valve is acting cold hearted and greedy about this. I get that its their property, their rights etc etc. But if they honestly think something this niche is going to affect their bottom line in any noticeable or meaningful way, they are high out of their minds. People that want to play something like this don't care about what makes Valve money in the 1st place, Skins and Loot Boxes. These people just want a classic old school experience. Not to mention Valve has made BILLIONS of dollars on CSGO over the years and it still remains huge to this day, with very little to no effort from them. They basically can print their own money with it. They have every right to deny this project, but that doesn't make it ethical. This is a labor of love and nostalgia, and without this level of devotion and dedication to the Counter Strike name, Valve wouldn't even be where they are today.
valve gave tf'2 source code to 2 tf2 modding team in 2020 and turned tf2 in to malware at the time which hackers can install virus to players's pc through tf2. and it left behind is limitless automated cheat bots.
I never managed to switch to GO like I switched from 1.6 to source, GO always feels wrong, this project is great I hope Zool succeeds and I get to play it.
I love seeing familiar maps in different styles. It's super fun to kind of recognise the shown spots but still taking a moment to actually know where it is :D
I would love to think that this game gets approved and that modders are allowed access to source engine code. But... I've known Valve since 1.6. I know what kind of company they are these days, and so does the rest of the CS community. It's a foolish hope. I feel that Valve would never approve this... I wish they would, but they probably won't.
