It never ceases to amaze me how our government will take tax dollars from small businesses and give it to large corporations so they can then in turn put small businesses out of business.

I appreciate that John Stossel went from corporate media to an independent journalist and telling the truth about serious issues. I send these to friends who believe the government and the green movement are what we need!!! What we need is to reach young people who have been brain washed to hate our country.

This report aged like fine wine … it has never been more accurate nor more applicable to our current economic circumstances than right now.

What would we do without independent journalists like John telling the truth? Where would this country be at without freedom of speech

Politicians love to talk about 'investing' into new technologies and jobs. But its spending taxpayers money where private investment doesn't see a return. If Government were a private investor, they'd be broke - so they just keep dipping into the pockets of taxpayers.

I think calling that capitalism is like calling a elephant a mouse .

Imagine that, someone getting free money "doesn't care" to stop getting free money. Who knew?

Milton Friedman had said something similar: It used to be that you made money by making something great. Now, it's just more lucrative to get government handouts instead of doing the harder work or inventing something new. So here we are...

My father and I had a small company, where we were selling (amongst other things) protective gear, including masks. Then the pandemic hit, and the German government outright banned the most affordable options. We were stuck with around €50,000 of inventory, which we eventually had to dispose of, while the government was 1) getting it's own hand's dirty in shady deals (there were several scandals over mask deals exposed) and 2) handing out 6 euros per sold mask to pharmacies, at a time when prices were around 35 cent a piece! We've been working years and busting our asses off to get where we were, and then the government turns around and destroys everything by funding some nonsense with your very own tax money. That being said, we moved on and are installing solar panels now. Ridiculous amounts of money to be made there.

Every time I watch Stossel, I say this it, this vedio is the best. Yet, he makes a new better one. The astonishing thing, is that he speaks fact no one can refute it!

It's always funny how they all love "capitalism" and "free market". I didn't know those two things included tax breaks and handouts.

Perhaps there will come a revolutionary day where the individuals creating these public-private partnerships will be held accountable, to put it ever so politely.

The Microsoft antitrust case is pretty interesting because I think the court would rule differently these days. Windows still comes with the IE or Edge browser preinstalled these days, but installing a different browser is no longer considered such a difficult barrier for other browsers to overcome now. Chrome dominates the browser market, even though it doesn't come preinstalled on windows.

Stop all handouts, subsidies etc.

It’s really important to direct people to the fact John has laid out clear for us. Some people get up in arms about things like school breakfast programs or other social initiatives that actually benefit working class taxpayers; but they become suspiciously silent when local, state, and federal governments gift already wealthy businesses and individuals millions or even tens of millions of dollars for any number of grants or subsidies.

I love that you keep pointing out the corruption. The swamp is real.

Businesses know who has the money and as such who to sell too. If we don't like it then we shouldn't vote in people who are willing to spend money that they don't have. Or at least call them to task for extraneous sales.

Anyone want to take a guess as to what would happen if the American people all just stopped paying taxes at the same time? If we did it all at once and then vehemently defended each other from the oncoming onslaught, we could change this nation drastically overnight.

If the government is giving taxpayer dollars to corporations then yes that’s welfare. But tax breaks or tax cuts just mean that they are letting people keep more of their OWN money. After all, corporations don’t really pay taxes. Only people pay taxes.

I just left a job at General Electric in late 2022. If an employee isn't producing enough work, they're afraid to ask the employees to do more. And minimum take home pay after taxes is about $700. If you have friends there are jobs that pay $35.00/ hour. With double time on Sundays. Which they all try to do for 12 hours. You could retire rich.

This video is from 2011. Stossel wants everyone to be outraged by the US government supporting renewable energy sources, but at that time oil companies were receiving 10 billion dollars a year in free money, literally direct "subsidies". That is money that went, still and goes, directly to oil company stockholders, every single year, except now it is closer to 20 billion annually.

What a great opportunity to discuss the recent CHIPS act and making sure strategically critical industries like microchips remains firmly in control of US and our allies instead of regimes that would do us harm? Even MSFT benefited from government research creating the internet
