Classic Tailback - Jamal Lewis Tennessee Highlights

A compilation of some of Jamal Lewis' highlights at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Lewis burst onto the scene as a freshman, providing the Vols with the perfect compliment to Peyton Manning's aerial attack. However, that magical freshman campaign would be the high point of Lewis' career in Knoxville, as he was hampered by injuries in his final two years of college.
The games I used to take the clips from can be found on Stephen Barnett's youtube channel (and there were a few other channels I used as well that you can find if you look around): / sbbarnet. .

This guy highlights are amazing. He had everything you want in a RB. He hit the NFL with the same impact. True BEAST!

Not many come along like big bad Jamal. He was an NFL caliber back as a freshman. He could catch the ball out of the backfield, hit the middle with power and the corner with speed, mash people on first contact, and he had track star speed in the open field. Being as big as he was and drawing so much contact...I was surprised he lasted 9 years...but was thankful to watch him.

When i saw him play his Freshman year and the first few games of his sophomore I saw a RB like ive never seen before. He was never 100% again after his ligament tear his sophomore year and another tear 4-5 years later with the Ravens. He was 240 pounds with in game speed like a 200 pounder. One of the best I ever saw and i think if he didnt suffer 2 ligament tears in his knee he would have gone down as a Top 5 historically RB. A special player

Great vid! But it's just crazy how he is not in the hall of fame. Over 10,000 yards rushing, over 4.0 ypc for his career, offensive mvp, super bowl winner and 2,066 rushing yards in a season? Maybe it was the drug deals or something he got caught for but he was a freak of nature and who ever watched him in his prime on the Ravens would agree.

@mekongfarang

nakamine1713 i don't think you understand. The term "Classic Tailback" refers to the old school aproach to football where the I formation was typically far and away the most common offence. The Tailback would be the focual point and Star of the offence. This style of offence has become less and less common in modern football. Jamal Lewis was one of the best modern examples of a classic tailback. He was the main focual point of the offence and struck fear into the defence like Jim Brown. Jamal would often get 30+ carriers per game. This is unheard in his day but even more so now.

Tennessee may not have that feature back like they did years ago but I think by committee they be in the top 3 in the SEC in rushing yards. The Tennessee offense will be quite possibly the most balanced offense in the country

That was a tough dude. Overcame another blown out knee in the pros. Had the all time highest rush record for a game for a bit. He was special.

Pockycandy, you are superb, and I truly enjoy your videos, Thank you very much, not a Vols or Ravens fan, but Lewis is just one of those players that was blessed to win championships and be a key contributor for both the National Championship and Superbowl, not to mention there was a long time where he was the Ravens offense. I believe everyone watches the championships whether their team is in it or not and if you watched the big games he was there. I also learned from the comments he was from Atlanta and went to Tennessee (Most the big time ATL backs go to Georgia). Seems to me Tennessee got a lot of great players by saying we have Payton Manning and then won the championship the year after he left...

Tennessee was in violation of recruiting procedures when Jamal went to Tennessee. Tennessee boosters went to a small Ford dealership in Dickson Tennessee (200 plus miles from Knoxville) and bought Jamal a Ford SUV. We all took pics of the staff with Jamal. Phil fulmer called the next day and asked us not to put the pic in the local paper. I know because I was the finance manager at the dealership. They did a 2 year prepaid lease with Ford Motor Credit. They knew he was gone after 2-3 years. I kept my mouth shut because I didn’t want the death threats. Peyton and coach Phil know
